  1. If you like Sitka gear, check out www.pnumaoutdoors.com Half the price as Sitka and similar price to Kuiu. Lifetime guarantee and twice the vapor exchange rate as any brand on the market. Means less cold due to sweating. I bought the Selkirk all weather gear. Fantastic.
  2. Any handheld from Cabelas or Bass Pro will work fine. I paid $79 for mine. Works well.
  3. Who cares where it lands on the board? Only thing that matters is what board/backing you want it mounted on! lol Congrats on fish of a lifetime!
  4. Eddies Cove just off of Sandy Pond has very good food and a bar. Just up the street from Sandy Pond Yacht Club(SPYC) Marina. Rt.15 to get there. Look for sign with a turtle on it!
  5. Thanks guys! Just received an order from Bob and they look great. Think I did well with picking up a few goby colors, Herganator and any with brown or orange for the browns. I also picked up a few mags for salmon. KOS, Albino Frog, etc. Appreciate the help!
  6. 100-125 ft behind planer boards. farther out to the side the farther back. shorter as you get closer to the boat. typical spread i use is 125, then 100 then 75 ft on downriggers. Fish in 8-15ft of water this time of year for browns. 15lb test is fine and add a flourocarbon leader last 8 ft. I run sticks(rapalas, smithwicks, etc) and spoons(nk's, michigan stingers, etc.) off the boards. Oswego is always a good bet this time of year. good luck.
  7. Couldn't get my 22' Bayliner through last year at the end of the season. Assuming it's the same now.
  8. Since this one is all white, why not add wife's name and white tuna! Ex.) Tara's White Tuna
  9. Heard good things about these spoons. Looking to place an order but not sure about species/color. My question is what are your 3 favorites for each species of browns, kings and lakers? Thanks for you help! Bob
  10. Hot lure should have said Pro Troll Echip Stingfish. Best color was chartreuse. Caught a few on gold too.
  11. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:The M ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):77/27-7/29 Time on Water:Mornings Weather/Temp:cloudy/sun Wind Speed/Direction:North to South Waves: 1to3 Surface Temp: 75 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 30+ Total Boated:19 Species Breakdown:Lakers Hot Lure: Echip Pro Troll Trolling Speed: 1.8 to 2.2 Down Speed: Boat Depth:80 to 150 Lure Depth: 40 to 150 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Started out fishing for kings/browns. Nothing doing and grumbling on radio so switch everything to laker rigs as I had 3 kids and the gf who wanted to catch fish, not take a boat ride. Left one pole out with a dipsey and flasher/fly for kings. Caught 3 around 13 lbs and averaged around 9 lbs. Ironically, two of the big lakers caught on flasher/fly pole. Kids had a blast! Kings will be here soon and I'll be up week of Labor Day to catch em! Good luck everyone. ====================
  12. I posted a similar thread about dipseys a few years back. The best (and overwhelmingly popular) answer was that any color will work as long as it's black!!!
  13. How about an address or phone # for the guys on the forum who don't know Tuna Tom? I'm sure he'd appreciate the free advertising and the extra business.
  14. Try using a smaller sized bullet. I shoot a .45 cal with 100 grains and powerbelt 195 grains. Shoots like a 30/06 at 100 yards. 3 inch groups Most shots in NJ are well under 100 yds so having mag charges and super sized bullets is unnecessary for whitetails. Good luck! Bob
  15. My setup was a 115 HP Mariner and it finally blew up this summer! After 19 yrs it's done! It looks like the new four strokes are what people are leaning to. Does anyone have a Mercury 4 stroke they like? Does the ethanol fuel mess up the 4stroke? Never had a problem with fuel with the 2 stroke. Appreciate the feedback as before. Thanks again! Bob
  16. In the spring I will be buying a brand new motor for my boat. I'm set on a 115 HP outboard. My questions are should I go with a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? Also, it had a mercury on it before and I was leaning that way(maybe easier) but what manufacturer do you suggest? Thanks in advance for all suggestions. Bob Pugh
  17. fish hunter- which direction were you trolling ex.) NE to SW or N to S Just curious as I fish the same areas. I'll be up from the 30th to the 4th. Boat name "The M". Usually on 68 if I can help I'll call ya. Thanks for the help. Bob
  18. North Sandy Pond is always an option. Bass, perch, walleye, and northern pike to 15 lbs.
  19. I agree with Pike Hunter that Puerto Aventuras is the place to go. The name means the Port of Adventure. Hemingway use to vacation and fish here. There are head busts of him all over the place. Very friendly and relatively inexpensive. Took a 1/2 day charter out and caught a 110 lb white marlin and 3 forty+ lb dorado. Next to nothing of a ride out as you start fishing within a 1/2 mile of the beach resorts. Also, very nice places to stay. Very little trouble as you are a good 45 minutes south of Cancun. I went at the end of June. Beautiful ocean, good fishing, great all-inclusive resorts and plenty to do. I'd go back to this place in a heart beat. Hope this helps and good luck. Bob
  20. I was wondering what is the leader length most people use when setting up a flasher/meat rig? Also, does anyone ever run a meat rig clean without a flasher/dodger? Thanks for the help. Bob
  21. Yes. You have to go around the island again this year. I have a 21 ft bayliner with a cuddy cabin and still had a few problems(thank god for the sandy bottom). I figured out that after entering the channel through the first red and green bouys i needed to go outside red bouys #3 and 4 and then back through the main channel. Kind of unconventional buy I never hit bottom this way. I have an outboard so maybe that has more to do with it. I saw bigger boats with inboards go right through the middle. Higher than last year but still not great. good luck Bob
  22. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Bob Pugh/The M ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):4/27-5/1 Time on Water:5:45-1:00pm Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location:Sandy Pond north to state park LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 40+ Total Boated:28 over 5lbs Species Breakdown:Browns, 2 atlantics(small released) Hot Lure: spoons and sticks Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 8-12ft Lure Depth: surface to 5 down ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS The fishing in the eastern part of the lake for brown trout is the best I've seen in the 10 years I've been boating in the area. The amount of fish on the screen is nothing short of spectacular. Even on the days after the rains and the muddy/turbid water we still marked many fish in the area. Largest fish caught was a 9lb brown with 20+being over 5 lbs. Only fished 2 guys so limited poles. Believe if had a full boat we would've had 100+ hits. Met some great Jersey guys from "The Heartbeat" on Sandy Pond and look forward to being fishing friends for a long time. Bob ====================
  23. I also give her thumbs up. She did a steelhead for my friend Mick and a brown and lake for me. Fantastic color and great work. Nice lady to just stop in and shoot the breeze with too. Bob
  24. There are plenty of organizations out there that basically take the politics out of it that you are not interested in. Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Pheasants Forever, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Mule Deer Foundation, etc. They are more interested in protecting the species than politics, but still maintain a portion of their proceeds to lobby in Washington for programs under the Farm Bill, Forest Service, etc. May be the middle ground you're looking for. Bob
