  4. That's all right I got 1 last trip out and I don't think it was 100% luck probably only about 90%. I think if I stick a little closer to the drop offs early and late I think I can pull this off.I have a good gps the right lures, decent ice,and time that's half the battle. Thanks jimski2 I have been reading there threads also. I can be tight lipped with what I find also.

  8. Fished Sturgeon Point last Friday 1/24. Ice was a mess lots of shove ice made the long hard walk even worse. Found a decent path out a little south of the harbor that lead out to the south west which got me around a lot of the shove ice. Ice varied from 5-12 plus inches. I fished a little short of the usual fishing grounds in 48'. Fished a #3 jigging rap tipped with a minnow. First fish on the ice was a nice 20" Walleye. Over the next few hours I picked away at the perch. I wound up catching about 15 perch mostly in the 9-10" range and 1 nice 12.5 "er Perch were a little small but the eye made up for them. Packed up about 4 for the long walk back. The wind which was strong out of s/sw had opened up a couple of cracks. The main crack which was the path I took out which was 6" of black ice on the way out was open 20-30' in places was about a quarter of a mile long. I had to billy goat it over a lot of shove ice to get off. was glad I had my float suit, spud and cleats.
  9. Lost my box of ice jigs on my last trip out. Looking for nice variety of ice jigs. My preference is horizontal jigs but like some vertical jigs also, mostly for perch fishing. looking for quantity at a fair price. Pictures of what you have would be helpful. You can pm me or list here. Thanks

  13. If I get a chance I will check it out for you before the weekend. Duck Killer
  14. Fished Canadice today from 9-2. Iced my 1st Laker of the year. Had another one on for about 5min. 4 or 5 other bites. Ice was about 4in. out deep with some open spots. Shoreline is getting pretty shot. Hopefully it will tighten back up this weekend.
  15. I have used a Vex 8 series for 16 years without the zoom function.I have caught smelt in 90ft. of water with it being able to see the smelt and my tiny jig.I could see the smelt come up and hit my jig with no zoom.I can usually tell in 30' of water if a perch comes up and takes a spike off my jig.I am sure the zoom is a great feature but not totally necessary. As I see it it is like having a scope on your shotgun.Yes I can see my target better but I have sure killed a lot of deer with open sights. All I know is I don't hunt with a blindfold on and I don't fish without electronic. They all have there pros and cons the bottom line is how much do you want to spend to get the job done.Just my opinion

  18. Member Gratefultodd and I made our 3rd annual trip to Montauk. Fishing was good weather not so much.Fished Saturday afternoon in to the evening picked up 4 bass off the point.Fished Sunday all day picking up 4 or 5 more bass a nice mix of Porgies, Seabass and some blues. Sunday night the wind began to blow.Monday morning wind was sill blowing hard so we went on a party barge jigging diamond jigs.We picked up about 10 blues and 1 bass. On our way back in we saw conditions were doable just out side the harbor. We trolled umbrella rigs and picked up 1 small Bass and dropped one. Our top 2 Bass were 23 and 24lbs.
