  1. most people don't have boat insurance unless it's got a lean on it. I surely do and my boat has no lean on it. That would be asking for trouble. I'd rather not have insurance on my car. A least my car has brakes to stop. A boat just bobs and weaves.
  2. These fish are good for other things too. Cook them for your cat or dog. The stuff freezes just fine. Put it in the freezer until trapping season, feed those garbage can destroying bears or feed the coyotes. Birds & squirrels eat them too. Throw them in the garden.
  3. As it is, most insurance co will take 10% off the top if you take the course. But who knows what they'll do if it becomes mandatory
  4. Hey Tim, How's it going? Here's the link http://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_for ... ic=38591.0
  5. That’s nothing. This past weekend, a guy backed up his boat to the ramp to be taken out of the water. I asked him if it was a new way of taking the boat out of the water, a$$ end first. He said “oops, first time I used a boat†WOW!
  6. Just read a post on another message board, that next year everyone is going to be required to take the course and get their permit to drive a boat in New York. After this weekend at a local lake, I agree 100%, man what a bunch of nuts! The wife & I took the course at a local collage back in 1992 and I believe it took 3 or 4 evening courses. It was interesting back then as I only had a few years with a real boat
  7. I remember when that happened. They took 2 outboards on the Orange dock. One was a sailboat right next to me. I think the other one was the Baha 2 boats down from me. In a way, I'm glad my dock is empty for now. Don't need that bs. I've often suggested putting keyed gates in front of the entrance of the docks. Maybe something will be done now
  8. That's great Thank you Scott
  9. Although I don't fish Oneida yet, its nice to see some good Walleye catching information for a change. Seems most folks don't give out Walleye info so freely. Nice catch guys. Thanks
  10. And this is based on what....your opinion ? It's a put and take fishery....get over it !! I'm pretty sure all the towns and businesses that profit from the influx of tournament fishermen during any of the "to many" tournaments and derbies you are referring to would disagree. If you're anti tournament...how come you fish two of them? That's like being a vegitarian who occasionally eats fish or chicken. You either are, or you aren't. Yes, this is my opinion and probably many agree. And yes, those who profit from these tournaments will disagree with my opinion. I feel that derbies/tournament that help with funding the pen rearing projects are a good thing but I still don't participate in those. However I am a member of ELOSTA and I believe they do help with some funding of these projects. I don't have a snowballs chance in hell of even placing in these derbies/tournaments but I enter those two LOC derbies because that's when I plan my extended stay/vacations. Oh, I'm in Oswego about every other weekend, so towns and businesses profit from me regardless. So I guess I am and I am not. Hey, I love fishing just as much as the other guy (probably more). I was one of those fishing businesses but my opinion was still the same! Too much of a good thing gets old
  11. For the last 8 or so years I've been getting a FREE monthly or bi-monthly newsletter in the mail from Sea Grant called "New York Coastlines" and it some good reading. It'll keep you up to date on the biological happenings on our Lake Ontario. Its also online at http://www.seagrant.sunysb.edu/ Now, the information stated in this newsletter is not just word from the weekend warrior fisherman or your local charter buddy. The information comes from conclusions from studies, research and tests done by the experts trained in the fish biology field etc.. Check em out and eat all the fish you want New York Sea Grant 121 Discovery Hall Stony Brook University Stony Brook, New York 11794-5001
  12. I thought it was only $60 to enter the "Boat Derby". And honestly I believe there are too many derbies/tournaments on Lake Ontario. I fish two derbies. The Spring Derby and the Fall Derby, that's it. But maybe a weekly prize for the three or four largest fish would sound good to some people. Winner take all, no way.
  13. I haven't kept a Lake Ontario fish in the last 8 years. Why take a chance. Its just not worth it, with all the possible diseases they can get these days. Still fun catching but that's where I draw the line.
  14. Actually, I'm interested in a permanent site for a 40' park model
  15. Sounds like there needs to be a fail-safe way to make this happen. I suggest starting out with a smaller prize amount and add to it as people register. As of a certain date $??.??, this is the prize value. And then adjust it from there in a bi-weekly bases or weekly basis if needed or whatever. I'm sure next year, the problem that happened this year, will not be. Any other suggestions?
  16. Anyone know of a nice campground around the Oneida Lake Area? Getting tired of one fish or even no fish days on Ontario. I looked around at a few there last year but there must be a bunch around there. Thanks in advance Greg
  17. So maybe the Oswego County Division of Promotion and Tourism is putting out bad information. But why would they do that? Aren't they there to BRING people to Oswego County. Even though I need to be there this weekend (hope the fishing is good), those reports sure don't make me want to fly on up to Oswego. Maybe they're just doing a reality check and not putting to much icing on the cake I've even hear a local charter or two pi$$ing and moaning about how the fishing stinks. Plus I hear a lot of one fish days. And that too wants to make you jump into the car! I guess we can partly thank our Gov. for letting someone stock the lake with the good ole Zebra mussel. If it weren't for them, we'd still have a fantastic fishery like we had in the early 90's, not just a good fishery Sure hope the big Chinooks make their way to Oswego soon. Nice fish by the way! How many of those 15lber's have you caught?
  18. If you go here, the picture doesn't look THAT good. http://visitoswegocounty.com/tn/Fishing ... eport.aspx
