  1. I have an Evenrude FITCH 150 and anyone who knows outboards knows that they can be troublesome and fussy ~! Well I found an outboard guy that is just top shelf and knows outboards better than anyone I have met. He spend 2 hours with me and plugged my motor in and ran the diagnostics And fixed a bunch of things and now the motor runs like it never has before [ excellent ] Explained which oil to use and how to index the plugs right ,and all I can say is if you have an outboard that you want fixed or if you need to buy a used motor CALL RICHARD or Text him @ 1-315-313-3841 Tell him Dr Watson sent ya [U.S.C.G.Aux] He is right on Rt 11 just south of Central Square. He is reasonable in h is prices too.
  2. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is always looking for new members who have an interest in all aspects of boating. Our membership has been shrinking over the past 20 or 30 years and we sure could use some new blood. Check us out IF you have the time and energy and love boating and boaters. http://www.cgaux.org/units.php http://wow.uscgaux.info/content.php?unit=092-04-07 Would love to have you join us!
  3. 2 words "Paul Maurer ! 585-581-6790 The best Neurosurgeon I ever met. [That is from a Chiropractor] Get well !
  4. Make your own ! Shower curtain hooks and alligator clips[electric supply] and shrink tubing on the jaws I made a dozen that they work great.
  5. I for one was not criticizing anyone for not warring their PFD ! My post was just a Public Service announcement so that we are all looking out for one another. I have actually taken part in search and Rescue having been a U.S.C.G. Aux member starting in 1988 ! I have also fallen thru the ice and can tell you the cold water shock is extreme! I can only imagine trying to swim in Lake Ontario after falling over board in April and I do not think I would be able to catch my boat trolling at 2mph! "AND" who actually wares their safety lanyard to kill the motor should you go over? Another suggestion is buy a personal distress beacon ! Every Boat crew member on patrol with the USCG has one on their PFD for a reason. Let us all try and have an accident free year in 2019 ! Dr W USCG.Aux 4-7 Canandaigua
  6. Just a note : The Coast Guard requires that all crew are required to ware Mustang suits this time of year and with the water at about 35 degrees you might consider doing likewise! When I am out this time of year I have a neoprene jacket and suggest you might consider this as an alternative ! https://www.google.com/search?q=neoprene+wading+jacket&client=firefox-b-1-d&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=OeFLZowctDVLrM%3A%2CqpHh_K9gM4vWhM%2C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kTlQATllKXtyzd7ujARGSiTwVjVSQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjxm7SgmsPhAhUMc98KHdEmDQ0Q9QEwBHoECAkQDA&biw=1093&bih=460#imgrc=OeFLZowctDVLrM:
  7. I am buying a boat with an Evinrude ocean 150 FICTH outboard that runs well but misfires a bit at mid range Does anyone have any idea of where I should look to correct this issue ? I have been told that this motor class has had some issues ? Some of them run well and others never do. Love to here your thoughts,. Dr W
  8. I have been to busy to fish and hope to get out soon. Last time out the Sea Fleas were real bad How are the fleas now? I do have a pound spool of 30 lb test but would rather not have to change the lines if the fleas are not bad. And how are the kings doing? and are they moving in yet? Coast Guard has kept me busy but I hope to see you all next week on the fishing grounds Dr W
  9. You can also buy some sawbellies [Frozen] and use a jig but I would find some 2 oz jigs and tie up a trailer single hook. With the heavy jig you can drift a bit faster and cover more water
  10. Well how did you boys do on Saturday ? We were out making sure you all came home safely no one said much on the radio so thought I would ask now
  11. HA HA HA landing a 35 pound salmon is nothing compared to saving a 25 foot Vessel with 4 people aboard
  12. As a long time Coast Guard Auxiliary member I get a bigger thrill out of hooking up and saving folks or their boats! Fishing I can do any time! Dr W Flotilla 4-7 Should you call for help I'm coming for you under Coast Guard orders or not!
  13. Fleas ?> does anyone have a good way to deal with them? There are some lines that they say will help like Flea flicker does anyone have and experience with them?
  14. Top Secret I do believe I saw you out there ? We had the riggers set at 50 amd 60 so the stack went from 60- 50- 45- 40 We could see the thermocline setting up at about 50 ft. Wednesday we went 9 for 12 so we were set up right I ran long leads and did not change anything ? Boats name low profile [Bayliner 24 foot hardtop]
  15. We got an extra early start [5am] expecting to find the fish where we left then on Wednesday, the weather was a complete shift and with a fresh west wind building the lake became rather bumpy and by 8;30 we called it . Not a single release! small pods of bait was around 125 FOW not a single hook [fish] around them. I suspect that with that full moon the fish gouged on bait last night and were not feeding. Hope others did better than we did BTW we only ventured out to 180 FOW so the fish may have been out deeper.
  16. I like Chinook divers best.
  17. Big Matt 7

Some free advice ! Get a 25 watt ship to shore Radio for safety as well as talking to other fisherman

With the new Radios they all come with emergency systems and you get a number that identifies

you if you are ever in distress!  You have to register your vessel through Boat US but it is worth it!

The radio can be hooked up to your GPS and when you hit the red button your position is broadcast to the Coast Guard and we will come get you !

  18. Dr W

Back in the 1990's I ran a lot of Dodger spoon combos last year I picked up some Sutton hemlock spinners for live Bait and the Browns loved Sawbellies on them behind a small dodger.

    1. Pappy

Try that spinner or an O&M spinner ,same thing, with the frozen sawbelly for the kings off your downrigger with a long lead.

  19. I expect that things are going to get even better soon . I plan on getting out again by next week and think that using an old trick of a small dodger with a smaller spoon about 3 feet behind it will work well now. Haven't seen that used much after about 2000 .. Dr W
  20. I talked to folks at the dock who went deep and the did even better than we did. out around 250- to 300 FOW
  21. We were running all spoons and the action came on 2 on NK 28 frog with the silver back and 1 fish on black ladderback NK 28. All on the riggers and zip on the Chinook divers ?
  22. Short afternoon trip on 6/6 and the fish were spread out from 85 fow out we hooked 3 and all were kings 2 went back in but this one was to wounded to survive he was just over 10 lbs and is now in the smoker .
  23. I used to have one on my old boat and that worked for me and now they are out of business if anyone has one and wants rid of it drop me a note. I will make offer/ Dr W
  24. IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT! My boat would have every bell and whistle GPS and Radar and auto pilot could make fishing easy ,BUT WOULD IT REALLY ? Navigation always depends on the human element and all those aids are just aides! I actually always have a compass , and because everyone will question even that compass I keep a hand held bearing compass on board as well.
