  1. Is Bayside Boat and Tackle at the end of Irondequoit Bay still open. I called the number on the website and it was disconnected. The number I tried was 585-224-8289.
  2. I spend a lot of time fishing the South end of Hemlock and the North and South end of Canadice (probably 25-35 times a year). I'm usually targeting bass and pikeral. I have often wondered why these lakes have not had recent stockings of walleyes lately or even tiger muskies. Although there are a few postings of incidental walleyes caught on the DEC Diary Program, I personally have never seen a walleye in the shallows (or the deep) of Hemlock.
  3. I've been to most of the Walleye Lakes in New York from Oneida to Erie. Are there any good lakes in the Adirondacks for walleyes that are worth the drive?
  4. Your better off going to Dicks than Field and Stream. More coupons in the DEC Regulations booklets. Did you notice Field and Stream do not have any Booyah Spinnerbaits but Dicks does (the ones that you can use a line snap with). I feel sorry for Gander Mountain because Field and Stream is in a better location. Just wait until they build that Bass Pro in Victor. It will be twice the size (not including the bowling alley).
  5. Another change when the DEC took over is they cleaned up all the aluminum boats that surrounded the shore. The city allowed it and the DEC forbid it. During this transition I was informed by someone from the city water authority that they had walked around the lake and copied down all of the boats id numbers. Apparently they started arresting people for stealing boats that did not belong to them and this also kept them from registering the boats with DMV. The official who was telling me this then had to take off to nab two people in a canoe who went back into the weeds at Hemlock. The official knew of a boat back there and thought they were going to steal it. Over the decades I wonder how many boats were stolen?
  6. The DEC has stated to me that all outboards on the boat have to be 9.9 or less. The local DEC is not happy with this because when it was under the ownership of Rochester they did not care as much if you had a larger outboard with the prop removed. The enforcement of this is coming from a directive from Albany not the local DEC people trying to be shmucks. I have also seen some large boats launch at the North end of Hemlock and use the main motor to get to the south end and "pretend" they used their kicker to get there. Some guy who works for the Rochester Water Authority may say otherwise, but the DEC is what to follow. Interesting the boat length actually increased when the DEC took ownership of the lakes. It is now stated confusingly as 17 feet or less. This is from the DEC website for Canadice/Hemlock Lake: Boats are allowed, but must be less than 17 feet in length, and any motors must be 10 h.p. or less. Do not transport or introduce any aquatic plants or animals into the water. Boats may not exceed 17 feet in length and motors may not exceed 10 h.p. Do not transport or introduce any aquatic plants or animals into the water. See Hemlock-Canadice State Forest for further details.
  7. I know welding techniques have improved but y o u can still find an awful lot of boats from the 50's and 60's out there and they are all riveted. The only issue with these older boats tend to be rotten transforms or floors. My point is a premium boat will usually last if you take care of it. There are an awful lot of designs out there so find one with the specific features you want.

  9. I don't mean to go off on a tangent, but what is the difference between Lund and Crestliner other than one is riveted and one is welded. They both come out of the same plant so I would imagine they share a lot of the same components. They are both owned by the mega conglomeration Brunswick Marine. So what is the real difference with these two brands other than one is welded and the other is riveted?
  10. These are the Lakers coming in for the winter I am told. They swim circles around the bottom in schools.
  11. Yeah all the old timers who used to know about it are no longer with us, I am told.
  12. It may be over by now, but there is a fall bullhead run that happens in Port Bay. From first light to about 9 am you can catch them all along Tompkins Pt and East Port Bay Road in deep water using leeches and the traditional bullhead set up. Use two anchors to keep your boat still so you can detect the bites. Usually it starts around Labor Day. I always catch more in the Fall than in the Spring. I quit at the end of September but they may still be there.
  13. It is interesting that Dicks built Field and Stream right across from one of their largest stores. It will get a lot of traffic because of its location near the mall. That's why Dicks moved to its current location instead of being tucked in back by Wal-Mart. Gander Mountain is now in a bad location for casual foot traffic. Those poor bass in a portable fish tank was a joke. The store reminded me of the downsized cabelas in buffalo. I believe the Basspro is going to be 60000 more square feet than the one in Auburn.
  14. How long can Gander Mountain survive in Henrietta with Dicks and Field and Stream across the street and Bass Pro coming to victor.
  15. I went to Canadice today and noticed how significantly it has dropped since the start of the year. The lake has to be down 6 to 8 feet since May. I don't know why the city or DEC is draining the lake to its current level. At least the launch is in deep water and pretty much a nonissue.
  16. I see Eskimo just came out with a propane auger which is about $100 cheaper than jiffy.
  17. If you are going to use Scotty rod holders then you may want to look at their heavy duty striker rod holders. You can get them on Amazon.
  18. I saw the border patrol hanging out there today in the overflow parking lot. What a waste of taxpayer money. Instead of watching a handful of fisherman in the middle of Lake Ontario they should be somewhere else looking for ISIS.
  19. Its good to know that they are upgrading their maps. I know Lowrance used to get their information from US Geological survey maps probably from the 1940's. At least that was the response they told me when I inquired about why they call Tompkins Point on Port Bay under the old name and why the channel for Blind Sodus Bay was way off.
  20. If I was going to invest in a powered auger, should I skip gasoline and go get one that runs on propane.
  21. There is one suspected crack house my street. A lot of people are investing a few hundred bucks and installing 4 unit video surveillance cameras around their houses.
  22. How is the water in this lake right now? Is it green or just stained like coffee? I have not been on it since early July. Thanks
  23. I plan on going to Lamoka and Waneta this weekend. Does anyone know how the fishing and the lake conditions have been recently? With all this rain, will it cloud the water and effect the fishing? Any info will be helpful. Its been a few years since I have been to these lakes.
  24. If you get bored in Port Bay, Sodus is only 7miles West by Water and Fairhaven is 7 miles east.
