  1. Make sure your "little portable 12v battery" is up to the task by checking the voltage with the spotlight attached. If the spot is a regular incandescent it will light even at low voltage, where your LED lights may not. Sent from my SM-T820 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I have the DRx-10 Depth Raider. I used torpedo speed and temp for a year or so. I stopped because it tended to twist or untwist after several outings even with a ball bearing swivel and was a bit of a pain to re-terminate. The other issue I had was the PIC voltage on my cannon downrigger would cause the Depth Raider to read erratically until I insulated the antenna coil from the metal sheath on the torpedo cable. At the end of the day I did not notice any improvement depth range and since I had to service the torpedo cable more often than with a coated cable, I went back to the coated cable.
  3. I moved my Depth Raider from the dash to the rigger a few years ago. If I recall the antenna cable is already a shorter cable that attaches to a longer cable to get to the dash. All I needed was a male to male adapter to connect the antenna to the head unit. In my case I have the drx version, the adapter was a TNC....not sure but older ones might be an RCA connector. I just figure eight and tie-wrap any extra cable.
  4. I have both and found it is not simply an offset. I calibrated gps, depth raider, and fish hawk to read identical at 2.5mph (in calm water)...at 3mph on depth raider, fish hawk reads 3.3; at 2mph on depth raider, fish hawk reads 1.8. Also changes in speed can be seen on depth raider in a few seconds; changes on fish hawk D version take about a minute to display. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. I think it is about 9-10ft.....set to be able to net fish vs best picture, but fine for video. Sent from my SM-T820 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. I started using hollow core braid for all my copper and steel connections. Same concept as the Chinese Finger Trap. ....used by tuna fisherman and others for big fish in the ocean. Smallest transition profile and nearly 100% knot strength. I also use it for backing in all applications....a little more expensive, but worth it in the long run for reasons mentioned above. Downside is it is not a "in the field" implementation for repairs. You need long needles and a few accessories make it much easier if doing a lot. Many videos and instructions online. I even use the technique on my lead core as that is nothing more than hollow core with lead in it. Nothing easier than a Willis knot, but it is nice not worrying about it hanging up in rod an reel. 7. I ended up putting it on the rigger rod: 30lb mono to camera, 15-20lb flouro/mono leader. I have had salmon actually hit the camera! Rigger mount will make you seasick reviewing video in rougher conditions, and the detail is acceptable only with very short leads. Plus the cable hum is very loud....but you can turn down the audio. 8. I tape up the clincher release with the stretchy, self-ahering tape down to the top of the swivel. Nothing on rest of swivel. I did coat the probe tab with "liquid tape" where the swivel does not contact, but don't know if it made any difference. I get 150ft with x-version Depth Raider.....175+ft with wet towel....YMMV Sent from my SM-T820 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Yes, what dawg said. Adding a chafe tube between wire and release will give a better fit and protect cable insulation. 10. Discussed at following link: https://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/index.php?/topic/72929-Adding-a-2nd-battery...have-a-install-question Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I experienced that this weekend also...could not troll east and keep probe speed under 3mph. I even put bags out, but they would barely open. For a second I wondered if the autopilot would work in reverse![emoji16] Answer was already given: troll another direction. Even then, West troll, lines and riggers were laid out, and N or S rigger wires were almost touching the boat one side or the other, but it was fishable. 13. Thanks, i am at 300 also...marking a few, Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  15. 100-170 blank screen....except I think I am marking fleas!? [emoji4] 50 degrees down about 70. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. I had an almost identical morning out of I-bay. 2 for 4, a skippy and a high teen king. I trolled 90fow to 400fow, fish caught and lost all in less than 200fow. The thermal break you mention extended east of the bay, I almost questioned my probe, as you said it was significant. I worked it for while with no success. Overall, marks were few and far between, and most were small…a few streakers/followers. Bait was scarce, but I did find two large pods in 400fow, but no hooks or marks around them. I spent a fair amount of time working the area without a hit or seeing more than one hook and it was 150ft down. Nothing really worked on the fleas, even frequent cleaning of lines. That “super flea” attaches harder the more you work it, even on 50lb mono….I ended up trimming line to keep fishing.
  17. Interesting you mention the swivel....the one I lost was due to a destroyed swivel....also suspect a decent king. Second time this year a SPRO swivel failed and cost me fish and tackle......rated for 45lbs test? Needless to say, I have replaced all SPRO swivels with DW and Torpedo brand. 18. Went 5 for 6 in 100-150 fow this am. 2 teen kings and a teen laker, others small kings. Steady NE wind may have changed things. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. I recommend the Blue Seas "Add a battery kit" with the ACR. If you already have a switch and can wire it with the ACR, then that would be second. Properly installed, it is idiot proof.....so far anyway! [emoji846] Sent from my SM-T820 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. I troll with a Yamaha 150hp 4 stroke, 3500lb boat. I run Ring Free in the fuel. Also use McMillan for service. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Went 8 for 11, 6 nice kings, a brown and a skippy. Spoon bite, leadcore, riggers, and cheaters. Colors, mixed veggie, green/black, silver.....hit on every spoon I put out. 7 color leadcore on planers....after first rigger king wrapped around chute leadcore. Fish in photo 34", 18lb..... others 10-15 lbs. 2 of the fish lost were nice kings. Great fights with much aerial action and strong runs. All fish released. 22. The Add-A-Battery includes an ACR which saves you from having to select "All" when you are running your motor or charging, and then switching to "1" or "2" to keep your "house" circuits from discharging your starting battery. It is mostly a convenience, and another level of protection against accidentally discharging both batteries. Sent from my SM-T820 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Might be too late, but I recommend the Blue Sea Add-A-Battery to isolate your starter and house batteries when you are using them, but combine them when charging.....it is pretty much idiot proof. Switch settings are ON-OFF-COMBINE. https://www.bluesea.com/products/category/35/89/Add-A-Battery_Kits
  24. And we are starting the year almost a foot higher than last year
