  1. Only shoot the hooded mergansers as they aren't to bad. Don't shoot other mergansers. I usually make sausage out of whistlers but I don't find them bad eating. Longtails are another story as I haven't found a good way to eat them yet. My fiends 80 year old dad also likes the whistlers.
  2. We hunted Canada this morning and saw more birds than in a while. Not great but they did decoy pretty well. From what I'm hearing I might be staying home and hunt rather that go to western zone. Also saw some snow geese migrating.
  3. I heard there was a big movement of snow geese today. We're going to try Canadian side tomorrow. Hope it is a sign of some new birds in the area.
  4. Thanks for the kind words from so many of my LOU buddies!
  5. Was able to mouth squeak a fox to within 15 feet of my daughters deck. My grandson loved it. I actually thought it was going to run up the deck!
  6. I've been seeing a ton of deer at my daughters while visiting in Colonia NJ. In only a few acres of woods among homes and I've seen this nice buck, a spike and a basket six. I took my two year old grandson for a short walk and we saw 15 in a 250 yard walk.
  7. Merry Christmas to you all! My Grandson is doing great! I'm looking forward to some late season water fowling and perhaps some more boat fishing.
  8. Merry Christmas to everyone. I appreciate all the information and any other additional updates as the season progresses. Good luck to all the hearty late season hunters
  9. My new grandson Ethan. Nothing like a new born laying on your belly!
  10. I like inflatables. They don't get in the way.
  11. They certainly both eat well.
  12. John, More geese then ducks but not many waterfowl for this time of year. On our way to NJ for the birth of another grandson. Will be there at least until Christmas. With warm weather predicted the perch bite should be a good option. They are bitting well at Chippewa and Chamount.
  13. We have Nexus cards, PAL cards and report in and out via phone.
  14. I've got plenty of longlines and decoys and float boat to cover most any conditions that I encounter. Thanks for the update guys.
  15. We hunted the Canadian side this morning and for the few birds we saw we did ok.
  16. I'm thinking of heading down to hunt the late Western zone after the holidays. Will likely be staying with a friend on Honeoye but also may have access on Keuka and Coneseus. Also may look to hunt Oak Orchard on the big lake. With the limited number of birds I'm seeing on the SLR I'm wondering if it is worth the trip down. Perhaps winter will arrive in the next two weeks and move some birds. Any report on bird numbers would be appreciated.
  17. Yep, they have really nice perch bait now at the 1000 Island Bait Store. May try the ducks in Canada this week before leaving for NJ.
  18. Hit them again today and bite was a little slower but we picked up a couple bonus pike. This was my take and my buddy took home about the same number.
  19. Great fish Pete
  20. Mike Ringer and I went through a pound of minnows and ended up with 90 , just shy of our limit.
  21. Finished up my Northern waterfowl season and it was a little disappointing. Although we saw a fair number of birds our take wasn't stellar this fall. Today we took a pair of mallards and a goose. We were hunting a marsh that is usually frozen this time of year. I hope we get some weather so the western NY late season and the rest of the Canada season picks up. The birds today were very hawky and have likely seen it all. With muzzle loading ending this weekend I may be doing more perch fishing from my boat this week if weather cooperates.
  22. Hopefully late western zone and later in Canada will be better
  23. Caught about 30 today (3.4lbs) of fillets on a beautiful morning on the river.
  24. Hunted the lake today and saw very few ducks. Some bufflehead but few of anything else.saw one flock of broadbills, very few mallards and blacks, a couple long tails and whistlers and quite a few swans. Harvest in my garden was more fruitful!

    SLR perch

With the nice weather I decided to put the boat in and try the perch. Kept 20 nice ones in Chippewa Bay in a few hours using minnows. Had to cull lots of shorts but it seemed like April or May out here and water temp. was over 40 degrees. Some different than last year at this time.
