  1. Waning moon, new moon, waxing moon seem to be less of a night bite. Morning and evening are hot.
  2. Esox, I'm not very patient. If I hit a spot and don't see bait or catch fish I move on. If there is bait I may give it two tries without a fish. If I catch a fish I'll fish it till I troll it twice without a fish and then move. I may move back to a spot later if it produced. I also have areas I fish at night and others I fish after sun up. Just keep looking and experimenting. Most people won't work at it like Prof T and I have to figure it out and as he stated, you can't catch fish with a weedy lure so that needs to be checked and a feel is super important.
  3. Prof T I hate outings when everything seems to go wrong (told you a word we have for that) but at least you got fish. We had a lure get hung up on my buddies shirt and we took the shirt off and got trebles out when we finished fishing. Fish are still around but you have to find them. Good bite once you find them.
  4. Very few weeds
  5. Fished with my good friend Don Crist that was involved in developing the technique we use. First time I've had him out this year. We went 6 for 9. Caught two on long lines in 25 fow and the rest on bottom bouncers. 22", two 23", two 24", and one 26".
  6. Fished 4:30-7:00. Went 7 for eight with largest one 29". I've had better luck in 40-55 fow than in 30-35' range.
  7. Nice fish
  8. Tried the geese again this morning and we got skunked. Fog did us in again. Could have shot some passers but we like them to commit to the decoys. Birds have been in this field for a month and decided to move from their roosting pond last night. Go figure. Didn't hear any shooting this morning.
  9. Quick trip out last night from 9:00-11:00. Lots of weeds but got 3 and lost 2. Biggest was 27". Geese again didn't cooperate this morning in the fog.
  10. What Big Mac said for color.
  11. Prof T, I may try the walleyes tonight and after geese in the morning.
  12. Nice job with your son. My son never caught the hunting bug even though I took him often when he was young. However he still remembers our time together and we still try to spend time together sharing other interests. He does have a great appreciation for the outdoors. Short trips, snacks and action is what kids seem to like.
  13. I have another shoot planned for Thursday. Nice change from slaying walleyes.
  14. The fog was very thick till around 9:00. After it lifted and the birds could see the decoys we did ok. Ended up with 7. Both dogs behaved and retrieved flawlessly. That makes for a special hunt even though the fog made the birds a little uncooperative.
  15. Another morning and six more fish all nice eaters. All on bottom bouncer in 30-55 fow. Fish seem to be on very specific locations. Need to search for them.
  16. Almost no floating weed issue here right now. Back from the fish fry and there were no leftovers!
  17. Took a couple buddies this morning and got 7 plus a short. We started at 4:00 and were done at 7:15. A couple oblong lines and most on bottom bouncers in 30-55 fow. Probably could had limited but had a great morning so went to breakfast instead. Doing a big fish fry for a large group of people from our church this afternoon.
  18. Nice
  19. Gander Mountain in Watertown or Henchen's in Henderson Harbor should have it.
  20. Gallo, Stoney, Calf Island, and Charity shoal are certainly worth a try. Carelton Island, Grenadier and Fox Island also options.
  21. Took my buddy Pete this morning and we did it again. 4 on bottom bouncer, 1 on longline and one on jigging spoon. Lost first 3 hits early and caught the rest all after 5:30. Ish came from 35-70 fow.
  22. Missed three fish early and caught 4 between 6:00 and 6:30. Throw a 19" back. Early fish were in 30-35 fow but the ones I caught were 40-45 fow. All on the bottom. Haven't caught a fish on longline a in two weeks.
  23. Back from NJ and after them again. Another beautiful morning. Caught four. Here's my limit.
  24. Took my niece this morning and we went 7 for 9. One short. Fish were back on my spots. Lauren did real well didn't loose any tackle and hooked several fish. We hooked 4 fish on first four short passes we had to work harder for the last two.

    SLR 8/18

Another good morning. We've fished 3 times together and have kept 17 keepers, (1 fish shy of 3 double limits) not to shabby! Going to take my niece in the morning. Prof T, Run that lure and see if it works for you.
