  1. This was on bottom bouncer. Only one on longline this morning. Lots of current this morning and the bite was slow.
  2. Rusty decided to get it mounted. It Weighed 11+ and was 31". His second walleye eyer!
  3. 30" and a 20 and 24. A little slow but nice trophy.
  4. Nice fish.
  5. I also wanted to tell you my gps trolling speed into the current is usually 0.3 - 0.8 I seldom troll over 1.0 unless north wind pushes me faster. Often I slip troll with very little up river movement. That's why I use my main motor so I can instantly adjust my speed.
  6. Been freezing up a bunch also. Did you get them all on the bottom? Most of mine have been suspended on deep divers the last two times out.
  7. . Limit in a half hour. Went 7 for 9 many suspended fish.
  8. Sound like a good technique, particularly for landling fish alone. Even though I have a kicker and electric I troll with my main engine( only a 60 hp) I've found I often have to adjust my speed with changing current speeds along a trolling run. It defiantly keeps me busy fishing solo when I run 2 long lines, a heavy bottom bouncer and also drive the boat and net the fish. Generally when I hook up. I point the boat to deeper water and keep boat moving slowly into the current. If fish is on a long line I leave them in the rod holder till I get the bottom bouncer in. If it's on the bottom bouncer I leave both long lines in the rod holders and land the fish on the bottom bouncer. If you don't keep moving into the current the long lines can tangle in the prop. It also keeps pressure on the fish if you're moving into the current.
  9. I was up and dressed at 3:15 but when I stepped outside and there was a strong north wind decided to go back to bed. Likely a good choice.
  10. Those are both great eating fish! I didn't get a chance to go to my brothers in the Cape this year but most years I go down and have a blast catching different species. Even catch some strip bass and blues on fly rod. Love catching those big fluke and Black Sea bass.
  11. I caught some on stingers on the lake but haven't used them much on the river. Need to give them a shot sometime but it's tough to switch up when you have them dialed in.
  12. Two 24" and one 21" also caught a 17" smallmouth and released two short eyes. Fished 4:00- 5:30 am. There were scattered eyes glowing on all my typical spots. Some as shallow as a couple fow. First good.catch on long lining deep divers this summer. Did catch a couple in 30-35' but most came shallower. Definitely more fun to catch them long lining."
  13. Nice I did well on long lining deep divers early this morning but did get a couple on bottom bouncers. Lots of eyes glowing every place I looked. Caught fish every where I tried.
  14. . Limit by in 1 1/2 hours two shorts also. 3 on deep divers.

Went for a boat ride today and there is an amazing amount of boat traffic.
  16. I run stick baits and troll them. Be tough to cast a 1 lb. bottom bouncer!
  17. We got some heavy rain last night and this morning. The river is definitely much higher than earlier this spring.
  18. I make a wire loop at the top of the weight and run a 1 foot wire leader above that and then attach that to a swivel and the braid.( all one straight line) The leader attaches to either the loop on top of the weight of the swivel a foot higher up with a snap swivel. If you tie directly to the weight without the foot of wire leader the mussels will sometimes cut even 60 # braid. Believe me, I've lost many over the years and you loose both weights and lures!
  19. Lineman 49 I read an article on article on them somewhere that ways very enlightening. Hellbenders can get much bigger than that.
  20. I use to make the right angle bend in the wire but now I don't bother. Simply use a straight piece of wire inside lead pipe and fill pipe with molten lead. A foot of wire leader above the weight to swivel and the braid. Floro leader off the top of the weight.
  21. I've caught them on jigging spoons and on heavy bucktails tipped with worm or leech using controlled drift with bow mount electric. Also caught them drifting worm and spinner. Strong current does change everything. I'm not sure if sonars would work in 30 fow or more with heavy current. Perhaps at night when they can move into shallow water but they still like the current.
  22. External gills make it a mudpuppy. I don't believe hellbenders are found in this region.
  23. I don't believe dipsey divers will work in the current. I have caught some off riggers but heavy bottom bouncers are more precise. Also deep divers off long lines can work on shallower fish or for suspended fish. My bottom bouncers weigh nearly a pound in weight . Just made up seven more yesterday! A foot of wire above the weight also reduces zebra mussel cut off of the braid. !Prof T , we have. House full also. Give me a shout after this weekend Nd perhaps we can get together next week.
  24. I use often use the same method when I'm doing a few bass or walleyes. Here in Jefferson county there is no limit on perch or bluegill and I definitely use an electric knife when I may be filleting a cooler full in the spring or when I have a bunch of fish to rip off. Both methods work but a good electric knife is much quicker.
