  1. After having one move away from me off the roost I move to three other spots and finally worked one into range. it flew off when I shot. I flat out missed it, It happens and at least there is a lot of season left.
  2. Trapper, Nice going. Hard to tell their size by the photo but they look pretty decent.
  3. I agree the the bird population is down although I have been fortunate to see and hear some birds and harvested one opening day. Keep at it cause things often turn around in a hurry!
  4. By the way, all the fish were caught off boards on sticks.
  5. I fished in my buddy Don's boat and we got a late start. Hit a 32" pike right off and latter a 26" male walleyes that was spewing milt. Makes me wonder if the spawn is over. Didn't see any other fish netted. Ended the day with a 29" pike and a 18" released smallmouth. We only fish from 8-12:00. The smaller pike had what appeared to be tapeworms and I ended up tossing it. After doing some research I guess if they are frozen or cooked they won't hurt you but there is the yuck factor. My friends fished Quinte and said it was very slow. Haven't heard how Lisbon was.
  6. Very nice well earned bird. Should post this on the hunting forum.
  7. We are going to try Chaumont.
  8. Thanks trapper. I shot a nice Tom this morning and fishing with my buddy at Chaumont tomorrow.
  9. Got a nice Tom this morning and fishing with my buddy tomorrow.
  10. It was a beautiful opening morning. After roosting 3 toms and 10 hens last light I was worried that the toms might not come in this morning. Fortunately one spied my decoy and after two yelps ran in and it was all over by 6:30.
  11. Several members of LOU have offered me a ride this weekend. Thanks so much to a great bunch of guys.
  12. I also had good luck with Bomber Long A and Thundersticks.
  13. After posting about my engine problems I've had several offers to fish with LOU members. Thanks so much for the generous offers. I believe I have a ride with a buddy I was going to take on Sat. And may run to Quite to fish with friends on Sunday and Monday. Great guys I met on this forum!
  14. It's a 4 stroke and dip stick was all milky. I bought the boat at Martins and they serviced it this spring. They will be doing repairs but it is a busy time of year at marinas.
  15. When I pulled my boat this morning after fishing Browns at Selkirk I notice foamy oil coming out the exhaust. Took boat to Martins and they believe I blew the head gasket. Now my boat will be down for a while at the start of walleye season. I do have a 16 foot Gheenoe with a 6 hp so I won't be completely grounded and I will be chasing turkeys his weekend. Things could definitely be much worse.
  16. Hit Selkirk early this morning and after catching 3 Browns my buddy turned green and wanted to head in. Predicted <1 footers turned into >2. It was fortunate cause when I pulled the boat I saw foamy oil coming out the exhaust. Dropped the boat off at Martins and they think I blew a head gasket. Can't even look at it till Monday. Now no boat for opener of walleyes. Oh well, I can still chase turkey and have a 16 foot Gheenoe with a 6 hp. So I can fish smaller lakes for crappie, bullhead and Millsite for for Lakers and landlocks so I'm not completely out of the game and things could always be worse.
  17. Fished out of Sandy Creek toward the sands. It was pretty slow but we managed to pick up 3 decent Browns all on sticks off the boards in 10-14 fow. Only saw a few other boats out and didn't see any others boated. Water was clear except west of Sandy Creek and temp was from 40.9-43.7.

  19. I've done decent running sticks off boards and off shallow riggers. Lots of area to fish and you will also pick up some nice pike. Fish may be anywhere so just get out and troll and watch what other boats are doing. It may take a while to figure out a pattern but fishing can be very good.
  20. I tried to add stabilizer and refill the tank after 2 years and ended up having to pump out a 70 Gallon tank and clean the carb.I believe I'd get rid of the old and start fresh.
  21. I' pretty sure it's over. Water warming rapidly.
  22. Took a trip to Rossie last night and observed the walleyes running up the river from Black Lake. It's an annual spectacle that brings a fair number of people and a DEC game warden is there 24/7. Saw quite q few eyes glowing with the aid of a spot light. it's amazing how many can be in the some nights.
