  1. I just bought a vexilar fl8se. Works awesome wouldnt fish with out it. Just wish I had the bottom zoom feature.
  2. thanks kliph, i planned to use the jigging raps they are one of the few things i use. I have chrome and blue and the glow white with chart. head. The security guard for the place net to where I work was trying to get me to go to that tournament but i am going out to onieda lake that weekend. Sounded like fun and a good way to find some spots out on wilson wish i could make it. Im just hoping e fish perch/walleye on chatauqua with my dad to get him into ice fishing...when i say he loves walleye fishing, i mean it he literally talks about it all the time. But i guess im the same way about trout and salmon.
  3. yes were looking for eyes . I saw some deep holes on a map near L.P. was kinda thinking that area. I have never fished chatauqua so i dont really know where to start. Im not just set on long point ill go to other areas its just one of the few places i know about
  4. well now that I looked at the map I was not fishing in wilson harbor but I was nearby in tuscarora bay. I got there off of rt 18 and ontario street. I just need to go down the road farther

  6. thanks kliph, thats exactly what i was looking for. I always launch my boat at olcott and could never find the launch at wilson.
  7. Hey guys, I went out today to wilson harbor because i heard good things about it. I tried out my new flasher and fish hut and stuff. I never fished wilson so I dont know if i was in the right area or not. I parked at the restaurant and drug my crap down the stairs and on the ice... i went to the right. Fished about the middle of the channel in about 5 foot of water. I didnt go out onto the harbor area i assume. where i was it was about 30 feet across or so with docks on both sides. I was using jigging raps tipped with minows forgot split shots fr my tip ups or they would have been out too. Anyways I wasnt there long and had some activity I was jigging away and a mark appeared on my flasher just under the ice and went down after my bait and ate it real fast. As i fought it i tried to tighten my drag and the fish got some slack and came off. I dont know what it was but it was fun. That was the only fish I had on in about 3 hours midday (11-230). I hit a few other holes i had drilled with little fish action on the finder and my rod. My question is am I in the right area? or should i have gone left and gone out to the big harbor area? If so is there an easy way to get a big sled/hut to the ice alone? Am I using the right stuff, Im very new to ice fishing this was my 2nd time out and 1st time alone. Any tips would be helpfull. Next weekend I am going to hed down to long point on chataqua and try to get my dad into some fish (he has never ice fished) but he is obsessed with walleye fishing and thought hed like this, can anyone give me a starting area/point/depth to start at on chataqua. sorry for the long winded post. -Eric
  8. thats guys. I was looking at cabelas and thats what kinda gave me the idea. That will problobally be what I do. I like the idea that i could use the camera in the summer too
  9. I was looking at the marcum line of products...the marcum ice troller (the one for 199.00). Is it a decent fish finder or is it crap?
  10. I am thinking about turning one of my fish finders from my boat into something I can use for ice fishing. Has anyone else done this? Also I was thinking if I was to get some electronics would it be worth it to get an underwater camera or a fish finder?
  11. Thanks nbajack. Ill keep trying. Hopefully this weekend ill be able to get out there. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  12. thanks captain vince. Im going to check them out now and order some tonight when i get done with work. Im happy to hear them little 8 lb eights will work for a little while. I am thinking about them 12 lb weights in the classified section.
  13. I just got a pair of scotty manual downriggers. They came with a pair of scotty releases, mounts and weights. I m wondering if they are heavy enough. They are 8lb balls. I know alot of people use heaviers weights and didnt want to buy new weights if i didnt have to. Also I want to put stackers on these. i have 2 blacks releases I want to put on as sliders and i see that i can put them on 2 ways cut the crimps off the end slide them on and recrimp the snap on the end of the wire. or open myself up to disaster and unwind 200 feet off the spooland slide the release on and wind it back up onto the spool. I dont know what kind of crimps to get to re-crimp the snap back on. I looked for some crimps at gander mountain but couldnt find anything.
  14. Thanks kliph. I went down today fished from shore. Quite a few boats out for a Thursday water cleared up. I talked to a guy and he told me to go with bigger bait. I guess ill just have to keep trying. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  15. Hi guys. I have a few questions for those who drift the lower niagara this time of year for trout. I have been out 2 times in my boat drifting artpark. Both times the water has been muddy. The 1st time my brother hooked 3 or 4. And Sunday between 3 guys we didn't hook anything. Drifted 3 way swivel rigs with single egg. Egg sacks. And also kwikfish...nothing. I am wondering if I am not drifting this right or if the muddy water is the reason. I have a 17ft aluminum deep vee with an electric trolling motor. I've been using the electric trolling motor to keep us from going into shore and from being pushed out keeping us is about 12 to 17 feet I don't use the electric motor to try to slow the drift...we go with the current. Saw some boats heading toward the lake toward the stella drift didn't know if that was the hot drift and art park wasn't ...any suggstions would be appreciated. It frustrates me because when I fish from shore I can pull lakers out no problem. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  16. it isnt the ethanol in the gas. All motors are made to run on 10% max ethanol blends unless it is flex fuel. My shop manual for my 89 outboard is made to run on 10 % ethanol. It is good to use the water seperating filters because ethanol holds water....doesnt mean you will pump water in with your fuel at the pump. Try putting some fuel system cleaner with some 93 octane and burn it up sounds like somethings plugged up.
  17. That sucks...thats about the only thing that didnt happen, everything else went back it would have been a blessing if that engine seized! I have a new to me boat that i will be venturing out in this coming year..see what happens. Ill be ordering some more flies coming soon after christmas. I am Eric...im friends with you on facebook by the way. Glad to see you on here.
  18. I bought a bunch of ITO flies at the end of the season this year. Did great as long as the boat was running and not being towed in.
  19. Thanks again Captain Vince. My brother and I showed up around 7 when it was starting to get light. Noone around to collect money so i didnt wait for them. Saw 2 other boats. Rained most of the morning. Lost a bunch of drop shots quickly found out that they arent better than pencil sinkers as i hoped. They did pull right off as i expected just alittle too easy. Water was very murky saw 1 person on shore hook up on a fish and loose it and my brother hooked 5 or 6 and they came off at the boat.
  20. Thanks captain vince for the info. That was exactly what I was looking for. I'm going to dip the boat tomorrow in the morning and wasn't sure what time to go but I should be all set for now [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  21. Thats good news maybe try for some musky down there sometime. I caught a musky close to 6ft maybe a few inches large in the lower rive ona mister twister about 8 or 9 years ago before the season opened up in may. Didnt get any pics of it but my brother saw it. It was by far the longest fish i have ever caught...and most people dont beleive you when you say you caught something that big in the niagara river or lake.
  22. i did hear that about mercury buy force and mix matching parts and when the parts ran out they stopped making the force engines. the engine I have is an 89. It is running like a top now but i know it can all end in a heartbeat...i know from experience with my dads boat and then getting towed back.
  23. Can anyone tell me if the boat launch in lewiston has certain hours that you can launch your boat? I used it in the summer for fishing at night with no problems didn't know if it was true during the winter. It seems when I fish from shore it is light out and then a half hour later the boats start to come up.. also do you have to pay to launch this time of year or is it free [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  24. i use siglon f it is a floating monofiliment line.
  25. I have a few questions about these motors. #1 How do you like these motors? #2 Any major problems to look for or specially maintain? It is a 50 hp 2 stroke 1989 motor on a 17 1/2 ft blue fin spectrum 1706 aluminum boat. I have heard alot of good things about the boat but mixed reveiws on the motor. I noticed with the boat in neutral it goes to a higher rev (compared to idling with it in gear) is this comon in force motors..or outboard motors in general? I also now have to bypass the killswitch because i dont have a lanyard/killswitch key to hold the button down. I am going to buy a repair manual for it. How fast will a 50 hp motor push a boat like this...it feel like i am going pretty good and the speedo real 26 but at one point it was about 31 at full throttle not too reliable i know....maybe i will bring my gps next time to get a speed. Thanks for any input.
