  1. Will we have white x-mas or green x-mas? Just a guess game to kill some boredom before x-mas. White x-mas is defined as snowing day on x-mas!----Green x-mas is defined as green lawn on xmas! Which does you think it will be happen on x-mas?!? I voted for green x-mas for this year. But I am kinda hope for white x-mas!
  2. x-mas is coming closer each day! There is no signs of ice coming soon except smaller ponds is showing little surface of ice. Aren't good sign so far for ice-fishing season! However, Big for river-fishing!
  3. rolmops - I heard several reports from some people that they have continue catching them at somewhere in mass. They said it is easily to hook up but very difficult to land them. I could understand about that! However, I wish I could have this secret location.. umm.. all Halibut will be gone.. Nah, I'll only keep what I can able to eat. But in seriousness, I'm really glad that Halibut got bounce back into population now. Hopefully, in several years later, we will have no problem to catch them if tunas are not around.
  4. rolmops - Oh yeah! I know how you feels about that! I have photo in similar situation as yours! except I have over 100 whales allover. But this photo is only captured 6 at once. However, It was scary/exciting to see whales do that because it will bring us "good luck" for fishing rest of the day. Ex: you got two football tunas. (Must be awesome day!) here is the link from my previous post in the past. http://postimage.org/image/ww7d9mnrb/
  5. found this one! I think i actually lost them all.. Anyway, This one was my good memories with one of my friend, we was fishing lower fall spot, and it was during April-May. You know how serious badly derbies end up at this spot. Anyway, my friend and I were hooked up few smallmouths. Until my friend hooked up something that didn't pull strong nor let it go at all! My friend decided to carefully drag more line until he saw three rods tangled together! Pretty awesome catch? Anyway, we kept fishing and I got into slump for some reason. Until my line got screamer! It was pretty great drag, I thought I did hooked up nice size-King but finally realized that it wasn't king that would be appeared here on spring! Until something surfaced at 300 feet away. It was half-size keg! I had to kept it for my sake for proving another friends that I actually got the keg! However, I wasn't done with fishing. I cast it again, got another screamer that fast! I was like oh man! this might be good fish! Nope, It wasn't because it was ACTUALLY another KEG! My friend was falling down into river from laughing so hard meanwhile he was attempt to land the keg! But my story didn't end on this spot! I decided to cast another one to see if I can manage to get one bite before call for the day. I got another hooked up again in another 3-4 drift later, It was another KEG!!! I kept them all and bring them to proving everyone then sold it to market! I got someone's money deposit on each keg. My friend and I got $450 for only two hour of fishing in lower fall! Must be our lucky day! Ironically, My friend and I were actually spend whole money on ... Here is the photo! You will see two of my rods that stand up on side of kegs. Both of them was hooked up those kegs on 12 pounds line! p.s. Chad (BlueEye), I don't know if it was allowed to post it on here. You can delete this part of post if you felt this was not appropriate post. I'll understand it.
  6. Please post photo if you got any! Must be bizzare or epic catch at any bodies of water. freshwater/saltwater. Here is my photos! I lost couples of photos! I'll post them when I find them. Anyway, here is one for now. You can say that Bat caught me while fishing! because Bat landed on my hat when I had it on then crawled under it. I thought someone tried to called me by tapping me. so I usually know that someone tried to get my attention. However, I was battling nice striper bass and landed it. I took my hat off and saw this! I was like showing to everyone on boat. But it was broad daylight! This bat must be lost! Weird!
  7. I don't know if it was most memorable because most of my great memories was on saltwater fishing that I posted in the past. But for the New York, I was fishing for trouts on kayak, I was casting the 3/4 0z spoon and got blasted by huge fish. It was towed my kayak from I-bay creek to between I-bay harbor and I-bay bridge after 45 minutes of screaming line. End up with 41 pound carp. It was totally crazy to see carp was hit that spoon! I thought I caught monster trout for my lifetime but I was totally wrong! I was happy with anything that bites in April. I was surprise that 8pound line wasn't break at all after long tow on kayak!
  8. Yeah, you guys would know the feeling when you thought you managed to get big fish and gotten work it up. End up, the snake was on your hook! I might suspicious that snake was aware of climate change because when it was getting closer to land it. I played snake until it was getting tired to battle anymore. However, snake refused surface like another fish normally does. It was submerge right under surface until line got wrapped. Then that moment, I was realize how is the big snake was. (Little terrify moment along with some shocks and disbelief) But everything in end, I assumed that snake was trying not to surface at all because that day was really cold/no winds. Also, snake could have lived right under someone's home's front porch or under the house to being keep warm because there was many houses behind me at where I was fishing. So, anything could be possible. Even through, it was highly doubt about that snake could lived through the winter.
  9. SNOOOWWWW is hitting our grass in Rochester! My friend told me today along high 30 degree! Can't wait to hear more snowing might coming soon!
  10. One of my friend just sent me photo from my freshmen year of college. I was searching for any kind of fish in any kind of rivers. I was fishing for anything that bite, I used crankbaits, spinners, spoon, texas-rigged tube/grubs. Nothing bites until big monster fish smacked it! I knew it was really huge fish because it was peeled off my line in short distance(probably 50 feet away). I kept it under controlled and make fish to think he can run it again in opposite direction. few minutes give in, the fish give up and I felt like it was stuck big log's branch. that just submerge under surface. I used my rod to untangle the line out of branch... Fish was popped surface! (swearing was flying out of my mouth meanwhile I was totally almost "pop out of my pant.") It was huge snake! I was shocked that I caught it and I don't have phone nor camera on me. So I wait for couple of minute to thinking what I should do. Somehow, snake managed to wrapped with 10-15 feet of line and couldn't escape from it. I decided to cut my line and left more line to tied up on tree. Then went back to school, told everyone about it. they think that I was kidding them. I took one of my friend and bring my phone to that site where I caught it. My friend was totally terrify to see that snake! He wont be close than 15 feet away from the snake. I decide to check it again, that snake was totally killed. (I guess it was from line that snake couldn't break free from it.) I let my friend to snapped some of photos for me meanwhile I am checking on the snake and attempt to get my lure back! After several minutes later, I decide to leave it. Because I don't want to get my hand close to that snake's mouth! You probably can see that I used my rod to hold up the line that attached to snake. But it was my most odd-epic catch for lifetime. But curiously took best of me, I wonder how possible that snake survive during fall season? Or even grow that big? I thought it might be someone who kept it for pet until it was growing too big to be caged. So, someone might throw it out in river. I am curious, "what you think of this snake and what is the possible chance that snake was wild or not?" Does anyone have similar stories like mine? I would love to hear your story!
  11. Yeah, last two years was tad earlier than third week of December. But I didn't want to take risk with little ice that just developed since I fish alone for most of time. Until Jan, with bunch of friends because until I checked ice is that safe to hold many people. I already got my rigs set up to go! Only thing that I need is ICE! But for now, might visit Rochester at this weekend. I'll definitely go fish for steelheads. Hopefully, I'll manage get one bite or many!
  12. No snow lately! It is possible be postpone ice fishing this year. I usually fish Braddock in third week of December to middle of January. Then Jan-March, I usually fish at any body of waters. But is it will be possible that I can fish sometimes at this month or no? My friends reported me that there is no little ice on any waters. But I am begin to wondering if this is normal? because last four years of my college was blizzard or heavy snowing by after the thanksgiving day. However, ice won't be safe until second or third week of December. Will it be postpone tad later than usually(third week of Dec) at this year? I wanted to visit my college couple of times during winter season so I can able to go ice fishing sometimes. So, I am curious about what is your answer about this? Hopefully, Snowing will coming down Rochester sometimes soon!
  13. wow. that's really huge. I never used any lure that over 6 inch at freshwater! except in saltwater up to 13 inch lure. its lot of money to own one. I would prefer to hang it on wall instead losing it! wonder who did use them to target muskies if it was actually worked...
  14. thanks everyone! Pike Hunter - I knew they are existed around here but almost like rare to find them along hard time to hook one. must be bunch of lucky to bag one. (fishing is not over yet for me )
  15. Whoa! thats really put damage on that sheephead. thats was nice save. now, I have same thoughts about lures after saw this, bunch of different kind of lures flying around in my mind! wonder who ever did caught musky with huge lure? I bet it will be like 3-4 pound lure or 16 incher beast lure.
  16. We was just out of harbor. oh man. we knew it was great day to fish! I went out fishing last Saturday to Tuesday. Right out of harbor. too many whales and birds flocking around whales. couples of bonitos and BFT jumping around the baits. It wasn't over half mile yet. and this event was continue until I passed the 3 mile line. it is look like this. we caught bunch monster size cods (speak of 15-25lbs cods) we got limited out each days. we did caught many pollocks, white hakes, redfish, and haddocks. biggest cod was caught around close to 30 pounds, 16 pound haddock, 11 pound pollock, and 15 pound cusk. list of fish from top to bottom, Cusk/white hake/haddock. Monday and Tuesday, we tried to chase for giant BFT after we get the cod limits. trolling around for less 30 minutes, two hits already! one hook got bend! second one is pulled the hook! well that's fishing! still see them jumping around. couple of them hitting on boat. due baits staying close on boat. sight! when running back home, many baby white-side dolphins swimming and jumping on our bow! however, on tuesday, our last day of fishing due of series of small craft warning on wed+thurs, anyway, we jigging and puzzled how possible that cods or any fish was gone that fast. i drove around little bit and search for cods. found them off the bat. been on fire for only one drift. caught our limits. we went second drift, boom! switch have been switched off! no fish at all! except we could felt small nibbles. but not sure what it was. capt went into cabin and fix the jigging colors while I was still fishing. i reeled it up and put new bait on it. then let it go again. only jigging for like 3-5 minutes, huge hit on my rod! i knew it wasn't cod or else at all. I yelled Halibut!! my capt ran out of cabin. he said, "what! hell no way! I never caught one in my life and never seen one before. and how hell you can know that you have it on your hook!" I said, I just knew it and I kept reeling for long time. (we fish at really deep, mind you) it was hard pull it up and it is hard to gain line at all. Captain said it was big cod or something else! But everything was done! only less 10 minutes! we saw halibut surface less 20 feet from boat and I reeled it carefully! netted it! Halibut is done! we measure it, luck on our side! just one inch pass legal size for keeper! 42 inch! 30 pounds! oh man! I don't want to be near my captain after he was very disbelief how I knew it before land it. also, it was my first time in lifetime, hope it wont be last! after couple of minutes later, he was cheering and happy to have some of fillets! I ate it for first time, wicked yummy! can't believe how great taste it was. overall, can't believe how great fishing it was. it was still continue! but had to wait until small craft warning and wind/rain to be stop soon!
  17. Monoy4000 - yep, cant wait to get back at this april/may with you and Pike Hunter.
  18. Chautauqua Tony - I forget to add something, federal permit was allow us to keep any tunas from 27-59in and over 73 inches. so We had to released it anyway. since that tuna was 61 inch. Pike Hunter - This epic fishing wont be staying long. so I assume it will be over sometimes this weekend or next week. except for tunas. (depends on how cold water moving around) maybe next year? or wait until I get the boat same as yours!
  19. Here it is.. Redfish... Yeah, trip didn't end on monday, I went out on Tuesday. Caught two 35lber striper bass then come home. due with my captain's back problem. so he decide to catch striper for dinner so we did. those striper definitely look like twins.. nbajack70 - yeah, still have the rush feeling from it. Gator - It is great day! Chautauqua Tony - I already have another Tuna meats in freezer that I caught in first week of September. Still too plentyful meat that might lasting 4-5 months. That's why we released it back into water.
  20. Awesome fishing!! Ray k - I gotta agree with you about your comment. Mortigan - yeah, thank for point it out. I don't realized that striper are around there in may. I was expecting them in mid-june.
  21. sound awesome day for ya! wish you contact me so I could have joined with you! But oh well, maybe next year. (PM)
  22. Went fishing on monday. searching for big um cods and haddocks. after fishing two weeks in upstate NY. can't complain anymore! Caught 30 pounds Cod and 15 pound haddock for biggest fish of day... Wait, epic fishing didn't end here! when I was reeling something that I assumed it was small fish. End up, I was right! small Redfish was landed. my new species that being caught. wicked awesome! next cast, boom, 13 pounds cusk! I knew I was in middle of something verge to be happen soon. And I was right. I caught huge cod and have hard time reel it in. until my line started to screaming hard. after couple minutes of managing the screaming line, fish stopped and swim directly to me. I was reeling fast as i could. then landed it! huge Blue shark hooked with big cod's head into the shark's mouth. Blue shark was around 12-13 feet long. however, this shark was impressed me because that cod was around 20 pound and shark have no problem to bite it half. Next thing that captain and I saw, we raised maybe 7-10 blue sharks around on surface after released that shark. We definitely dont want to do that. So we moved couple of miles away. oh man. I am glad to move that new spot. because epic fishing was still continues! after landing many cods.. captain told me that this will be last drift before we going home. I kept jigging for it. felt small nibbling. bam! small cod... wasn't what i wanted for end of my day. so i reeled fast as i could. somehow, I noticed that when I reeled. line wasn't gaining or pulled. I knew I have something bigger on it. I assumed it was shark. so i told capt that I have big one. Captain was laughing, tell me, "again?" I said, "yeah, but this one felt different." So he reeled it up and went to control the engine. Oh boy! when fish heard the engine started. fish was running for life. we had to chase that fish while gaining the line quickly. (FYI, I have 330gti reel with 600 feet of 60lbs braid line) we realized that this one was not shark at all. until 15 minutes later, fish was swimming "ring of death.." we knew this one was tuna but how big it was? until we got hold of it. 61 incher! very fat! we assume it was close to 120 pounds. we released it back into water. we are done for the day! oh man. Epic fishing is on fire right now! Can't wait to get out soon! no photos except redfish.. will post it later.
  23. Haha! That's good one.. I keep see the buoy flashing red color in nearby beach in which it is not normal.. Then when I use my telescope, my eyes was in pain! Cuz it was ray who flahing his sunburned butt! Lol [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
