  1. My wife has really been wanting to   Come coyote hunting with me.    So why do dinner and movies when you can bring her coyote hunting for date night.    Being new to coyote hunting this season, I brought her out to where I do most my deer hunting as I know that spot is too coyote rich.    I let her do the fox pro caller..... and she called me in my first coyote while actually coyote hunting.   Unfortunately the drag out through 12” snow and nearly 8/10 of a mile Up hill dragging was not fun but she help the whole way.   I’ve enjoyed everyone’s pictures and success and am glad i proved my first success.    I have called a few coyotes  into 30 yards unfortunately some of those areas I am hunting have to use a bow.

  2. My brother in law and I went to the Harrisburg Sport Show, he bought a Fox Pro Fury, wow what a nice piece. 5 year guarantee front to back. I bought the external speaker like the Snow-Crow has holy moly what a difference plus I got the $20 crow load they call it for free. We looked at every light manufacturer but I just couldn’t pull the trigger on a $400.00 light, I know I saw maybe not as good quality but states you can make out and identify a coyote at 300 yards with a half twist the light goes from flood to beam, to me that’s all your going to shoot around here. Called Wicked Lights. So I’m going to talk to those guys, see what I can con them out of[emoji38] I’ve been know to get more out of people. I’ve been trained by the best, 22 years of dealing with the general public. I’ve heard it all[emoji38] see what happens??
The wicked lights are awesome. They are what I used before I went thermal. 403ic for scanning and an a48 on the gun. Great quality and good mounting options. I honestly prefer the smaller a48 as a shooting light over the big 402 or 403. You can't go wrong with their products.

  3. Hell ya!! That’s true dedication, plus you say you’ve tripled that this year!! That’s excellent!! Many hours put in to that, plus top notch equipment is a must for that type of a accomplishment, you still need a dedicated person behind that equipment also. It doesn’t hunt by itself, LOL that’s amazing!!! Congrats to you and your companion??!!!
Ty. Last year we killed a few more than that but skinning and salting was a learning experience for sure. Ripped a couple fox tails in half and destroyed a couple faces getting it right. This year I've managed to put up 12 of the 16 foxes and 7 of the 12 yotes so far. Couple yotes had mange and a some foxes were just blown to hell but most holes aren't even noticeable once it's done no matter how big they were. My feb work schedule really sucks but im going to focus hard on coyotes for the month of march. Hoping to knock down 10+ in those last couple weeks.

  4. 2016 season Mink and moyle order came in today. Did 10 pelts last season, it was a learning experience for sure but they look pretty good and feel amazing. This year's pile is already 3x this size, can't wait.20180203_000345.jpg20180203_001146.jpg20180203_000352.jpg20180203_000353.jpg

  5. Spent the weekend hunting the fox pro bark at the moon event. Awesome time once again with a great excuse to get out for a couple long nights. Did 16 sets Friday night with 5 reds and a grey to show for it. Started the night with 5 straight blank sets on some really good stuff but then killed fox on 6 of the next 7. Saturday night we focused on yotes and smoked one the first set even tho it took 2 shots as the 1st shot splashed on the shoulder bone and it got back up. I'm about done with .204 for yotes. 3rd set called in a pair perfect and I whiffed on a moving target in tight and then made a great running shot to make the save. Then I made the mistake of getting greedy and focusing on the 2nd dog and it cost us. Off to the races the 1st one went. Fml. Wasted an hour plus looking for that dog and then did a couple sloppy useless sets in the mud. Finally got back on track and managed a couple more foxes for the night. All said and done we managed 8 fox and a yote good for a top 10 finish anyway. Fun times as always. Vids below from many of our kills.

  6. What if you move out of state @ that time??

Then I'm fine I'm sure as long as it's legal in that state. I'm a long way from retirement so I'm sure a lot will change by then. Sadly probably for the worse.

I've got a useless tin badge that exempts me from all the NYS bs thank god. As it stands I can only sell/transfer them to other law enforcement officers and If laws don't change I'll have to modify or surrender all of them at retirement some day. How sad is that.

  8. Have had them on the bait last three nights. Going to pull the chip out of the cam over the deer tomorrow.
Tommy went to pull one of our cams on Manitou yesterday and someone stole the camera.

  9. Yeah, wind looks suspect Sat night. Getting snow down here tonight in Allegany cty...after the melt I'd prefer a couple inches. Beats mud.

I'd love frozen ground but doesn't look like we are gonna get it. Fields up here are springtime wet. Went and bought new muck boots today because I found a leak in mine jumping a ditch last week. Don't want to do 2 marathon nights with wet feet.

  10. Anyone else doing the Foxpro NYS predator hunt this weekend? Weather looks alot better than the WNY Slam. Always a nice event.

I'm in. Will be hunting northern Orleans and Niagara county. Hoping to improve from the 6 foxes we managed last year. Hopefully wind isn't awful and MA nature gives us a hand.

  11. wow not much size difference at all
Lol. U guys must be looking at something different than I am. Skin that yote out and put those skulls side by side. The mass on that right skull is insane. A 50lb yote has a big head but it's still nothing when compared to a 120lb+ wolf. Here is a 48lb male skull compared to a 33 lb female. Definitely some serious differences in teeth size and mass but still would fit nicely in a wolf's mouth. Lol20171217_130545.jpg

  12. Took this brute of a yote this morning after a 2 hour steady run with the hounds and only one short loss only to let us old guys time to reposition for the kill. He tipped my buddy's farm scales at just shy of 50lbs. This guy we ran the week before and he lead the hounds out into the ice in the big O on my GPS at 550yards off shore. Not a fun thing to watch from the parkway. I took him with number 4buck shot along a thicket edge and the hounds only 20 yards behind. What a thrill!IMG_20180117_101031889_HDR.thumb.jpg.884a1751a87059a956085251ffe740fc.jpgIMG_20180117_100640739_HDR.thumb.jpg.cca9f239501624439120ef6542ecf2b2.jpg

  13. Been tough this last week. Last 10 sets have been empty for me. Heard yotes on half of them but haven't seen a fox or yote in last 10 sets. Tonight and last night I hit some really good stuff too. They just won't come play.

  14. well that iwhistler on here an this very forum uses a 204, I know he took a few reds with it, I'm not to sure if he took any greys. Guess we'll have to ask him then we all will know.
Used 204 last year also and killed a pile with it. I'd say about half the time I end up with a mess and half the time it's a perfect pinhole with no exit. Edge of body near misses are always a mess. The 35 grain bergers seem to have less exits than the vmax. If ur shots are close and u want perfect furs shoot a 17hmr or a 22 mag. The 17wsm is a badass round also

  15. some guys were wondering if you ever took a grey with your 204 and what was the outcome of the hide damage if there was any?? thanks for your input. PAP
It's all shot placement and distance I've found. Gut shots or edge of body and ur gonna have a mess. Chest shot or square into the rib cage usually doesn't exit. It's the exit wounds that leave the mess. Long range shots (150+) almost never exit.

  16. Took "Da Butcher" (for those who know him from the tourney scene), out for a couple sets last night behind the thermal. Had lots of yotes sounding off but none that would finish. Great conditions and I should have hunted longer. Got video footage of a nice fox but forgot to teach Justin how to use the focus knob on the scope so it's a little blurry. Great coat on this one until you looked at its tail. Fml

  17. Took my cousin out tonight so he could shoot something with his new "predator rifle" He built a .204 ar15 with a 26" heavy barrel, I bet the thing weighed 15+ pounds with all the dumb lights and bipods and **** he had on it. 1st set we had a yote sit down on the woodline about 400 out and stare toward the caller for 15 minutes. Eventually he walked off somewhere. He didn't seem to want to come play in the deep snow. Next set didn't take long. 2 minutes in i have action to my right and I let him know he has a fox coming in hot and light it up whenever he's ready. You could see it fine once it got within range as it was blasting trough the snow throwing a wake like a jet ski. He hesitated, I barked it to stop, then I heard frustration and a safety click off as the fox ran up and bit the caller and took off. That was my signal to step in so I took a couple shots and dropped it on the run. Doesn't this kid put a round into it as it lifts it's head up while laying in the snow a second later. Better late than never I guess. Lol. He also learned to skin a gut shot fox tonight since that was his mess. Video below.

  18. You're correct about lights. For those just getting into lights make the investment into a light with a rheostat so you can adjust the power. Not just a low or high setting, but full adjustability. I scan with a red light set at about half power or just slightly above, it takes little to see eyes. My gun light is set brighter but that doesn't come on until I am ready to take the shot. If you're stuck with a fixed beam light for scanning then once you find eyes keep the critter in the lower half of your beam....use the halo of the beam vs the direct beam. They don't like bright!

  19. In this post I said "NV", I meant thermal. Couldnt figure out how to go back and change using my phone. I stand corrected...

Your certainly right about success rate. Thermal isn't a magic wand that'll make u a killer. I know guys who have dropped 5 k and still can't call in a thing unless I take them out with me. Having quality spots and knowledge on how to set is everything. Lights are great tools you just need to know how to use them properly to be effective killing tools and not just educating dogs all night. Attention to detail is what makes for consistently successful sets.
