  1. Started out east and then focussed right down the middle. I was pretty sure I saw you go by. I'm assuming you were in the Lund?
  2. Brett I agree, there needs to be a weigh station somewhere on the north side! I would be more than happy to put together a group of volunteers for next year including myself if need be.
  3. We had a blast Saturday on the North end of Seneca. I cant think of another day when we caught so many 8lb lakers. It was my son who took first and second in the youth division last year and a co-worker Emma who loves to fish. I started out with a solid 8 that fought like a 12 and just literally straightened my hook out as it hit the net. I think our final count was six fish over 8lbs but not one that broke nine. I caught one that was exactly the same length as my 5th place fish in the national derby that was 2lb lighter. Talked to Nick (lb88) who said there was 7lb lakers on the board but it didnt seem worth the haul to probably be knocked off day two. That strong south wind crushed us day two. Boated one more over 8lbs and had one monster on a 4 color cor that I droppedout the chute on a sutton. Overall a great weekend and congrats to everyone who made the board! A great torurnament and a great cause. I'm really lookin forward to the Lou all as this will be my first.
  4. Thats a sweet bow in the pic. I'm sure it was a blast!
  5. Thanks Rob, It was a long process and ended up with a C section but both baby and Mom are doing great!
  6. General rule of thumb is the "rule of 100". If your 30ft down then 70' back, 10' down and 90' back etc. etc.. Its a good starting point and you can increase or decrease from there. FF combos generally do better on short leads off the ball. Lakers are certainly attracted to the rigger weights and will streak to the balls to check them out so a flasher fly tight on the ball will generally take more hits. I like to run long leads for bows and use alot of S turns to keep the spoons at varrying speeds and swinging off the sides of the boat.
  7. Well just as I'm headin out the door this morning with a new secret weapon my wife yells at me to stop! Water broke Good luck Seneca looks like I'm sittin this weekend out.
  8. Wow! those are fightin words. I was just gonna fish till noon or 1 but now i'm gonna stay out as long as it takes!
  9. Depending on what time your heading out I would start with trolling. Any kind of silver spoon down about 30fow and back 70-100 should produce bows at 2.3-2.8mph. Plenty suspended out over deep water. Lakers are 50 down to the bottom and ff combos and spoons should produce. As far as jigging....I prefer plastics and Kastmasters. Any jigging spoon or bucktail will work as long as you find active fish. I fish 1oz typically under 120fow. Go heavier if drifting at all. Most active fish on the jig will be just suspended off bottom and you will know quick if there positive, neg, or neutral. Dont spend too much time in any one spot if there not hitting. Timing is everything on Canandaigua. They will hit slow and short strike and then its like a switch is flipped and they will chase and hit all the way to the boat even with 72 degree surface water! Good luck!
  10. There was no wind to speak of so we were bouncin around with the bow mount and just hovering over them when we found them.
  11. Did a half day trip this morning with Chris. Just the two of us so I started running 2 wire dipsies one rigger and one core. Spent a little time not moving rods when the core fired with a nice bow. Switched everything to a rainbow program and hit steady fish for about an hour but they kept getting smaller. Decided to hit the north end and work some lakers on jigs. Action was extremely steady and fast and very entertaining. We were able to hook almost any fish we marked suspended just off the bottom. Sometimes 3 or 4 chasers at a time. Stayed out some extra time as the fishing was just to good to leave. Several rainbows and a fat brown chased the jigs right to the boat! Released everything but one bow that we just could not revive. No big fish today, everything was about 3-4 lbs. All lakers came in 110 FOW
  12. Stayed up late Saturday night converting a couple of rods I broke a few weeks back into wire dipsy set ups. Finished about 1am, got a little sleep and was out on the lake around 6:30. Started the fishing with my son and a co-worker. Fishing was a little slow to start but picked up as the day progressed. First fish came on one of the new wire rigs. Had to run my son back to the dock for work at ten thirty and picked up my wife. 9 mos pregnant and due this up coming thursday but she still wanted to get out for a bit. She loves to jig so we set up in my favorite spot. Her second drop had a fish raising off the bottom so I told her "ones comin, just reel in and see what happens". She reeled up about ten feet and said "yea nothin happens" and just as she said that her rod bent right over. I missed one shortly after and we trolled for a lil while longer and picked up a really nice bow that just inhaled a sutton single hook and mortally wounded itself on the way to the boat. Those bows really like the lead cor right down the chute. 5 colors did the trick today.
  13. My son and I will definately be in. We don't get a chance to fish Cayuga very often.
  14. Same goes for me Justin. I usually launch at the Chamber this time of year. I got out only 11am - 4 Sunday and caught 4........ 8# 3oz lt 5# 4oz lt 2# 7oz ll 0# 3oz Alewife
  15. Thanks Tom. Mike, it was nice having someone run one side of the boat! Fishing was steadier on Saturday till the storm. Everything seemed to drop a bit in the water column. Saturday the three colors I had out the chute took all the Bow hits and Sunday was the 6 color on the board, ...which was our hot laker set on Saturday. Still a good day on the water and sad to see my vacation end. Noticed a few flees starting to show up Sunday. Seems about a month later this year than last with the cooler temps.
  16. Here is a pickeral I caught last year on Canandaigua. They get pretty good size. Easy to catch throwin spinner baits and shallow cranks around the weeds on the north and south ends. Paul.
  17. Zebedee, Got your voice mail and I appologize I still cant believe I left my phone at home Monday. Sad but I felt lost without it. We did ok with the folowing 3.......... 10lb 0oz or 9.98 5th place mens 8lb 6oz and a 6lb 7oz all lakers. Congrats on that 11lb 8oz! Paul.
  18. Things went pretty slow for us as well but the fish we did catch were fair. We ended up placing one fish on the board in the end a 9.98Laker which just hung on for 5th in the mens division.
  19. So Ray, are you allowed to float those inflatables off the side of you boat with 2 live bait rigs attatched to each?
  20. Best fish for the weekend for us was 7lb 7oz. we also had a 6lb 8oz and 6lb 4oz.
  21. Justin, I sent you a PM and hopefully see you out there this weekend. 585-301-5949 Paul.
  22. I have been trying to think of a good name for my boat and after the Tournament on Sunday afternoon I decided "Bad Judgement" to be a fitting name. We boated lots of 6 to 7.5lb lakers day one and a smaller LL. Day two we pounded barely legal and 3-4lb lakers to the point I was getting tired of setting lines. I ran a Thunderstick out 100' back and 100' out from the boat on an inline planer when I realized I had not set a stop in the line for the board. That being said I didn't feel like fixing it. Now we get to the heart of Bad judgement. Forty minutes after pulling this in 150fow I see the board take of behind the boat. I grab the rod and line just starts peeling off so I check the drag and its relatively tight. After 2 quick runs and now well over another 100ft of line i'm startin to worry about the board. To make a long story short the line starts coming up and the fish surfaces about 400ft behind the boat and I see this huge silver fish just goin nuts on the surface. Fish took one more run and thats when the line gave way. Good news is that at least I have a name for my boat now.
  23. Lowrance fish finder pretty much new. Took this off my boat when I bought it as I had a better unit. I did cut the power cord a little short but that should not be a problem. Everything included plus the manual for $50. Paul
  24. Anglers Pal? They work great and quick to adjust. Probably not a good choice for dipsy rods.
