  1. Got out for a half of a half day with a local father and his 9yr old daughter and his seven yr old son. They just wanted to fish for 2hours then they were headed for a camping trip. I wanted to head South but he didnt want to get too far down the lake so we started north. Ran just 5 rods as they just wanted a couple fish for dinner. 2 dipsy's, 2 riggers with sliding cheaters and 1-10 color. Just got the 5th rod out and the dipsy/spoon combo fired. Handed it off to the father son team and they had their work cut out for them. I was thinkin big laker watchin the head shakes and the fish doggin down. As i'm coaching them the cheater on the rigger fires and by the time I get the rod the bow is airborn. I started to work that one with the daughter. a couple real nice runs and we had her pretty close to the boat. I looked over to check their progress and thats when their big male rainbow decided he had enough of staying deep. Several spectacular leaps and he had everything tangled behind the boat. Thought for sure we would lose at least one but after a couple minutes of dancing with rods we were tangle free and netted both. Another 45 min of steady rainbow hits and they had to get going. I really enjoyed fishing with those kids. They kept asking their father, one more? one more? Not to mention I was thinking the same thing. Wish I had taken some pics but thats hindsight.
  2. I certainly have my favorite spots where I know there is always fish sitting tight on the bottom even if it shows nothing on the finder. I will target single marks and generally speaking its not uncommon for several others to reveal themselves on the drop. I will usually work them for 3 to 4 drops and maybe change colors but not spend too much time on fish that are just lookin.
  3. Mike, very thourough detailed report as always with great pics. Thats a great laker and two years in a row you topped your best laker out there. Congrats!
  4. Sat. 8lb 8oz laker 7lb 1oz LL 6lb 10oz laker our best three
  5. It was a tough laker bite out there on the jigs today. I did a 4 hr trip and we only boated three and lost a few others. Normally average 8-9 in the boat. I was on the North end but ran past Ononda looking for more active fish without much luck. All our fish came on Zoom white ice tubes. We had lots of lookers but few chasers. I like to fish 80 to 130fow this time of year on Canandaigua.
  6. Had to make an adjustmant for the Kings. Worked ok on the fingers but I had a rip on Ontario the other night an almost lost the wire rig. Now the rod holders dont interfere with swiveling the riggers in either. Were you out on Canandaigua today? I have a trip out there friday and might try and sneak out there Thursday evening for a few hours.
  7. Launched out of Deans and worked south mostly over deep water. Had one of my sons friends on the boat today who has only caught sunfish. 30 minutes minutes in and were 0 for 2. Picked up a five lb laker minutes later and had a steady pick of lakers for the next two hours up to 8.5lbs. Weeds were a nightmare and only got worse as the wind picked up. Wire divers out 220 were producing the best lakers for us and 4-5lbrs on spoons off the riggers set at 65 and 80. Went to pop an inline planer and snapped the line losing planer, leadcore, lure etc. Decided to troll north and battle the weeds and not the waves too. A bit north of long point and we got a good rip on the wire and when I grabbed the rod the fish was peeling wire off pretty good. Handed off to my sons friend who was more than happy to land the 7lb landlock. The fish was in pretty good health considering he had a big lamprey on him. By the time we landed the fish and dispatched the eel it was 2:45. No chance of making it to Meyers by 3 or even close. Decided to call it a day and even though we did not make the weigh in it was still a great day!
  8. I honestly cant tell the taste difference between the brown and the salmon Steven caught. Very mild and I trimmed the lateral line and all the darker skin side flesh off.
  9. I'll be heading up there tomorrow. I've got some of that big brown you caught smoked in the work cooler if you want to stop in and try some. It came out great!
  10. Excellent report and sounds like you had a great day! Gotta love the Bows on Canandaigua. Only gets better over the next couple months.
  11. Nick, I'll be fishin the Harbor fest tourn or I'd be all about jumpin on with you. If you want to get out on Cayuga dont hesitate to give me a call. I'll be launching out of deans cove and headed south at 6am if your interested. Paul.
  12. Not an islander. My boat is Blue and silver pro-guide 175. Could look like a small islander from a distance. Hoping to get out there tomorrow morning.
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/4 Time on Water:6-9pm Weather/Temp:Nice Wind Speed/Direction:NE 3-6 Waves: Surface Temp: 75 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:Kings Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.3-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 120-220 Lure Depth: Shallow ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Didn't expect to get my boat out of the shop till tomorrow but when I got the call today at 3pm and checked the forcast I figured why not? Launched and had rods set around 6pm. Started in 120fow working North. Nothing on the screen all the way out to 250. Stayed out there for a bit and just could not find any marks. Decided to head east and finally found some fish. First fish was a skip and the only pic we got but they got a bit better from there. Landed 4 in about forty minutes and started to head in. Spoons off the riggers shallow was it for us tonight. couldn't move a wire dipsy with a fly however one of the better kings wrapped around the wire and snapped it ====================
  14. Hey CA troller, I was sure that was you off our port side. I thought I heard the radio but when I asked everyone if they heard what was said I just got a bunch of blank looks. I have not had much luck with the browns out there this year. Done well with the Bows but I think I have an idea if we ever get some rain. Chris... If you and your dad want to run out and jig some fat lakers just let me know. I would be more than happy to take you guys out.
  15. Nick, Looks like a nice day. Gonna have to get in touch with you for salmon tips, I keep comin up short.
  16. Nothin wrong with a 6.5 as your first! Looks like we were pretty close that morning. That point in between Wegmans number 1 and number 2 was definately the hot spot that morning. That rain workin south and strong wind was not helping anyone. Don't hesitate to give me a shout on the radio if you see my blue and silver boat out there. I'll be more than happy to let you know how and where we're doin
  17. The only big downside on that lake. Seems like the pleasure boat capital if your not off the water early. Congrats on the Ten plus laker. Females are fillin up with maturing eggs and those fish are gettin fat. Stick with the jiggin on that lake and I'll bet you catch alot more that size and bigger.
  18. Planned a trip today with my wifes grandmother who is an avid bear archery hunter and loves to fish. She was bringing one of her younger grandsons and the forcast looked great yesterday. Weatherman screwed that one up. They were running late so we didnt hit the water till just after 7:30. Decided to run South considering the wind and the fish were kind enough to wait for us to get down there. Started a south troll about mid-lake and hit a nice 8+ laker on wire dipsy out 225 with a white crush sd/fly. Continued South but decided not to battle the waves and we turned North. Pretty good action coming back in 200-220 fow. Took 4 more and lost a monster on a double coming back up the lake in a short time frame. Picked up one laker on a 6 color cor and decided to throw a 4 color out. Just got it out and it took off. I'm thinking nice Bow and we end up netting a 5lb smallie. Stopped for a bit and did a little jigging and Josh picked up 2 cookie cutter 7-8lbers back 2 back. Wires were hot today and riggers produced around 85ft but not often. Very few flees but enough weeds to make up for them. Stayed mainly west of center on the lake. Grandma and grandson with a double. Nice Smallie out over 200fow
  19. Your on fire out there. Great report and every day for you seems better than the last!
  20. I have a 17' boat with an eight foot beam. My weight far exceeds yours with people and gear. I use my Minn Kota 55# bow mount mostly for vertical jigging. This motor will hold my boat in 20+mph winds without much problem. I get better battery life than my motorguide I used to have and I like being able to position the foot pad anywhere in the boat. Top speed moving is 2mph in low wind conditions. If your looking to cover ground I would definately go bigger. If your just looking to cover smaller areas the 55# motor will work. Just for referance my boat and motor only is about 1400.
  21. Congrats Andy and Tom! My son Steven and I headed out of Deans and steered towards long point. Once we past the point we started a steady pick of Lakers. First laker was on a cheater down 35ft over 300. This quickly turned into a pattern for us so we stuck with. Only had one fish hit a FF combo all day. We boated several lakers up to 10.9lbs and not one of them was deeper than 40 feet. Aside from the great Laker fishing we just couldn't seem to put any legal silver fish in the boat. We did get one small Bow and one sub-legal salmon. Steven had a blast and being it was just the two of us I had him do the reeling and he did a spectacular job only dropping one fish. Can't wait to get the little one out fishing!
  22. I second the HDS 5. Those units are about the highest output power wise you can get at a reasonable price. I have a great humminbird that is excellent for jigging and I can pretty much call if a fish is going to hit but when I'm trolling on Seneca over 300fow I lose bottom often. Gps is a great plus for marking waypoints for your hotspots.
  23. Had half day trips both Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday was a couple of great guys from Maryland. Ran south and took an immediate hit from a Bow as I set the lead core and dropped it just about as fast. Ran a six rod spread just north of Bristol harbor and picked up a couple of nice lakers up to 8 lbs. We got a slightly late start due to licensing issues and the bite slowed fast. Did a quick jigging lesson and ran to one of my favorite summer spots and the bite was much better. Boated a few more 8's and a really solid 12 lber to wrap up the day. Fleas were non existant on the west side and heavy on the east. Wednesday was a local Grandfather who had his two Grandson's visiting from Texas. It was a bit windy again but I was optimistic we could get them on the jig. Had a bit of a slow start but it really picked up throughout the day. These boys dont fish very much but there hearts are in it. They went non stop for over 4hrs and boated many really nice fish up to just over 8lbs with a fantastic double at the end. I stretched this trip out a little because they were having so much fun and on the last drop I noticed a streaker shoot down from about 40ft to about 80 fow after a jig. I was just about to ask if someone had a hit as a beautiful fat bow jumped right next to the boat. The boys grandfather had no idea what hit 'em and by the time I was exclaiming REEL REEL! the bow was gone. Ended up keeping 2 lakers today and 1 yesterday. Think I got some laker slime on my camera lense. Fish on the jigs were best in 110fow on white. Bill from Maryland with a nice CA lake trout
