  7. Didnt start fishing till 10:30. Rainbow bite was fantastic from the time i set the first line. Stayed on the north end and went 7 for 11 in two hours. Able to release all but one. Fish ranged from 2 to just under ten. All spoons in the top 50 ft. Havin trouble uploading pics from my phone so ill put them up when i get to a computer [ Post made via Android ]
  8. I keep hearing the launch will be ready Monday. Ramps were supposed to be in Thursday. I will be down there tomorrow and take a look. [ Post made via Android ]
  9. Mike, Glad you found some time to get out. Just bought a life jacket for my daughter and cant wait to take her out. Hard to believe its been about a year. [ Post made via Android ]
  10. Fished the south end both east and west. West seem to produce a little better. Lakers were all over different depths. Slow steady pick all morning dropping one heavy fish at the back of the boat. Switched to jigging late morning and picked up one nice bow and another average laker. The rainbow actually spit the jig but wound himself so tight in the line fighting we still landed him. [ Post made via Android ]
  11. I dont remember exactly how much it was to file my dba but i think it was only $20. Dont forget about the pv license with your nys guide license if your gonna guide on the fingers not requiring the oupv license. Insurance is something i would never leave the dock without and thats alot more than twenty bucks. [ Post made via Android ]
  12. You will need reels with higher line capacities. I use some lc 47s and even those would struggle to hold a ten color. [ Post made via Android ]
  13. I am just up from you on number five this year. Feel free to stop by and I would be more than happy to show you what I'm running. I will be out next Saturday as Avon anglers will be running one of their tournaments. Canandaigua fishes a little different than the other fingers in the spring but ff combos can be very productive if used right. Speed and depth are the two big factors right now. We got our limit the last three times out in less than an hour. [ Post made via Android ]
  14. Fbog, You don't need sleeves to attatch your wire to leaders. You can use a wire knot directly to the swivel that your going to attatch to your dipsey. This is the method we use on Canandaigua and as FLX said, green on green works pretty good for us. We generally get more on wire dipseys than we do on riggers right through August. Fish are a little deep right now so we are running FF combos on the riggers. I use an albright knot to attatch my wire to backing.
  15. Only out for a short while from noon till two or so today but the bite was hot. South end in 170 fow. Worked to get a fish on the jig and then went to trolling. Sd fly off the Riggers were good but the copper spoon combo was tough to beat. By myself so the last pig on copper was tough to land but it worked out. [ Post made via Android ]
  16. I was out for an hour this afternoon and the fishing was great on the south end. Riggers deep and 300 copper was hot. Sd fly on Riggers and suttons on the copper. Water temp was 50+ on the north end surface And 40 on the south, [ Post made via Android ]
  17. ononda is owned by the town and has a fishing dock open year round. I fished the north end today with little luck but ran south and put 3 in the boat quicky. No doubt Keuka is going to be your best bet for shore fishing but I have seen some great trout caught from the dock at ononda on live bait. [ Post made via Android ]
  18. I have 2 big jon 6" pedestal (stancheon) bases that include the oversised screw knobs. Asking $50 for both with the knobs.
  19. What an amazing weekend of weather!! Originally had two 1/2 day trips planned for Saturday and Sunday. Started with Joel on Saturday who grew up on Canandaigua Lake and now resides in Haiti. He had lots of fishing stories from the fifties through the seventies before he moved. We started around 7:30 and put a small brown and a rainbow in the boat pretty quick. started hitting lakers and more bows pretty consistant after that. Lakers ran pretty small up to 3-4lbs but the bows were great and ran up to 5 or so with some pretty spunky fish. Got most of the bows on sliding cheaters and lead cores with cranks and spoons. Joel was pretty happy and decided he wanted to go back out Monday. Got out Sunday at 7 with Christine and her husband Mike for his Birthday. Fish were active right from the start. We hit a brown as soon as the lines went in and it was pretty steady from there. The rainbows were hot and Mike and Christine really wanted me to target them. Sliding cheaters with spoons were hot and with some really big bows. Took a shot off the rigger on the cheater and had a huge bow on with Christine on the rod. This bow jumped at least three times and she could barely move it! A few minutes more and the line lightened up quite a bit. When she reeled it in there was a 3lb Laker on the main line and the Bow was gone. Getting towards eleven thirty and the end of the trip and we got a screamer on the rigger. Mike landed the 8lb bow which ran some drag a couple times and Mike decided a full day would be in order. I don't remember the final count but they released over nine by eleven am. Went back out with Joel on Monday and as soon as I set out the first Lead core we had a fish on. Not for long and this turned quickly into a trend. We dropped the first 3 fish we hooked. After that we landed 2 lakers and lost a nice Bow. A short while later we had a great rip on the rigger. Joel grabbed the rod and imeadiatly said this is a heavy fish! He did a great job bringing in the fish which was as fat as any rainbow I have ever seen. Lake trout bite for me has been a little slow and the one female I did look at was droppin eggs. Joel told me to take the next rip and sure enough I lost the Bow on the second jump. Bite was slower on Monday but still a solid day with some great fish. Just one of Joel's nice Bows
  20. The Splake were to be raised and released elsewhere. Wish I had taken a picture of the male brookies they used. They were year old fish that weighed on average 3lbs. They were certainly beautifil specimans. As far as fresh lamprey hits there were a few but not alot. Most fish were very clean.
  21. I will try to break down the day which hopefully will answer the preceding questions. Started 7am pulling the 2 sturgeon nets first. According to the DEC these Sturgeon were stocked in the early 90's and to there knowledge it was 500 fish and that was the only stocking. I believe these were the first nets they have set any time in recent history so they were not sure what to expect. These fish ranged from the low 40's to 60 inches. I'm assuming from the age of these fish the females should just be reaching sexual maturity. The Sturgeon we did catch appeared extremely healthy! As far as a 700lb speciman I think it would be many years away. Growth rates seem right in line. I'm guessing the 50+ inch fish were probably all females and the lower 40's were mostly males from the same year class. Probably another twenty years before those females really push into the hundreds. They caught 5 Sturgeon the day before. After tagging the Sturgeon we picked up 2 laker nets and held on to 9 ripe females. We then proceeded to shore where there was a hatchery truck waiting with male brook trout. The eggs were taken from the lakers and then the male Brookies were "milked" to produce Splake. Once the eggs were fertalized they were put in coolers. Went back out to pull the remaining five Lake Trout nets. All the eggs were harvested from the ripe females and fertalized with the males. Again the eggs were placed in coolers and soaked in a Thiamine vitamin B solution and these were going to the Bath hatchery to later be used in more local stocking projects (Fingerlakes). I really expected a much higher mortality rate than what we saw. The ones that did not make it were being sent to a DEC lab for samples and VHS testing. Most Lakers taken averaged between 4-8lbs. There were about 6 fish in the 9-12lb range out of most likely 200 lakers netted. It was a very interesting and informative day to say the least. They said in years past they would spend almost a month in Seneca to collect what they get off T-Falls in 4 or 5 days. Hope that answers most of your questions, Paul.
  22. Had the opportunity to ride along on the Lake Trout egg harvest off T-Falls today. As an added bonus the DEC had set a couple nets for Sturgeon. I thought if we saw one that would be really something but ended up with 6 in the 2 nets. All 6 were tagged and released succesfully. Also had several carp well over 30lbs, one nice channel cat and far too many lakers to count, not to mention several hundred feet of copper wire and a sutton spoon. It was a great day and I really appreciate Kelly and the other guys from the Bath Hatchery giving me the invite/tolerating me.
  23. Got out this morning with my Father in-law and his brother in-law. Launched out of Woodville a bit after 8am and quit before noon. Laker bite has been slow for me over the last week so we ran North to target Bows. Marked a bunch of small bait pods over deep water so we stopped about halfway up the lake and started to set up. Ran a six rod spread with 2 wire divers, 2 riggers w/cheaters and 2 cores 6 & 10 color. 6 spoons 1 crankbait on the 6 color and one FF out on the wire. Rigger popped before the spread was out and it was a small laker. Free sliding cheater went off next with a nice average bow. Just a minute later the 6 color start ripping drag with a good bow that took one of the biggest jumps I have ever seen. In the process of this spectacular leep the bow set the other hooks back in her body which made reeling her in quite a chore. Hit another female just after getting that fish in the boat that took the lead as the biggest. Picked up another 2 lakers on the cores. I thanked the guys for letting me real in all the small lakers. Made a turn into the waves after a quiet few minutes heading back. Got back north a bit and the rigger takes off just peeling line and even pulled the rod holder down. The guys were nice enough to let me grab this one and what a brute! As I'm fighting this one the wire takes off with a good fish. A couple great runs and 6 netting attemps we finally got the big male bow in the boat. We got the big laker on the wire right to the edge of the net before he shook free. I think we ended up about 11 for 14 dropping the only good laker of the day and a nice bow. Washed the FF at all diferent depths today and took 3-4 on the crank including a fair laker and the rest on spoons. Jim fighting a nice 6lb bow out on the 6 color The single hook spoon did alot of damage to this one Cant belive they let me reel this one in...
