  1. My usual program has been 2.0 to 2.5 on the ball. 2.1 2.2 being the most productive for me. But the last two weeks slow has been the ticket for me. I probably been trolling 1.7 to 2.0 mostly. We picked the 2nd place laker at 1.7. I haven't had to troll this slow all year but it made a difference for me. Another thing I like to do is speed up to 3.0 for 30 sec to a min and then drop back down. I pick up a ton of salmon doing this. My thoughts on temp is exactly what stouter and chowder just said. I probably learned it from them The only thing I can add is fish like stable water and this time of the year the temps are so messed up you want to find more stable water were you have that temp break 60 70 down. Not a 110 down. We fished the warm water saturday morning to afternoon and some luck picking a 6lb laker, dink salmon and 2 dink rainbows up but my fish finder was blank most of that time. We found that colder water break and my screen lit up and what did you know my rods started to move again. Every day is different so change things up. You feel that there are fish were you are at then def change things up if nothing is moving. Its part of the fun tring to figure out what works and isn't working. Its a good feeling when you start figuring them out but these fish sure do know how to put you back in your place the next day. "Persistence will lead you to success" Rob
  2. Nice! Those fins sure do look orange. Wish I could have seen that fish up close I had the same problem when I went up N of sheld. point. Did not find colder water in one spot until I dropped to 110 ft down. We caught more dink Salmon then anything else when we were N. Sunday we found the cold water between Taug. and the Boyscout camp and we just followed the cold water all day with that N wind. I was glad to find it cause it paid off.
  3. Octopus hooks are a single hook. Google them. I love them. Here is a video on youtube for a recipe. I think this is the one we used but we subed the the strawberry pellets for strawberry jello. I got it online some where! I don't think we boiled them. I think we put ours in the frig for and hour or so and let the jello set. My wife was the master chef I believe these balls work good on catfish as well.
  4. I don't have a lot of experience carp fishing but I really have not had that problem yet. Probably cause I don't fish very often for them. I setup up my rigs with a 1/2 oz to 1 oz lead sinker. I tie a 4 to 6ft leader with a sharp octupus hook with corn or a homemade jello corn ball on it. I throw it out and leave the bell open. Next, I throw more corn out and wait. I let the carp set the hook. Usually the carp picks up the hook and continues to feed but as soon as they feel something they jet off with hook and the lead weight then sets the hook. As soon as I see the fish running I close the bell with a light drag and wait for the carp to stop. When they stop I slowly fight them back in. If anything I get more break offs trying to get them out of the weeds cause they barry the selves. Hope this helps but again I don't fish very often for them and I am by no means an expert on carp fishin. Good luck!
  5. Diddo! At least 8 to 10 twist. More does not hurt. I love my Black releases.
  6. They say the Yeti coolers are the last one you will ever buy But they are expensive. I believe they are in the 300-600 dollar range I bought the igloo at Sams Club for $64. 150qt cooler. Suppose to keep ice cold for 5 days. I have put ice in mine and kept it in there for 20 hours with little meltage. I bet it would come close to the 5 days. So far it holds up well. We use it for an extra seat on the boat.
  7. Cayuga is my first pick! Its loaded with bait!
  8. Nice Job ED! I was really stubborn about using flurocarbon but since I switched over it really has help caught more fish.
  9. We had some but weeds were more of a problem. We passed some pods that made my 23ft boat look small
  10. Thanks! I saw a ton of boats rushing to there aid but the next thing I new it the balloon was a 1000 ft high Must be they wanted a closer look.
  11. Congrads John. Way to start it out with a ten pounder I thought we had it figured out too but saturday morning Fish Gods said, "Oh no! You boys are going to have to work for it this time!"
  12. Thats my thought on things. Leave them to reproduce! Time to blow the dust off the bow and get ready for deer season. Late start for me. Also, probably going to get the fly rod out for some Trib. fishing next week. WTG SKipper! I did pretty well today considering the tough fishing conditions but I tried the watermelon spoons this morning with no luck. Did good with the flasher fly program. MT dew SD/ big weenie proc was the money today.
  13. It seems like every time I go fishing there is always the one that gets away Sorry you have the same problem. WTG!
  14. Fished hard both days with Josh, Paul and Bob. It was a tought fishing. I got to meet a lot of you guys. Had a great time. First day we fished Myers N on the East side to AES with very little luck. We then motored up to Sheld. point and trolled north. Did ok. We landed a 2 ten inche rainbows. But there was little to no fish so we motored back down to the boyscout camp and found lots of bait and fish. The 3 biggest were 6.5lb 6 and 5 3/4lbs. Just could not pull in a big one. Good temps at there. Today we fish Taug. to the Boyscout camp ealy and fish every where. we did really good but I lost a real nice laker. Broke my hook off. I got on the radio and let everyone who was listening know that it was good fishing there and then it shut down for a bit. Just kept pounding the small LLs but not the lakers. Also caught someones lead core but we were able to save it all. The good temps kept moving down with the N wind so we moved with it and kept circling. Worked out pretty good. We finally hooked and landed a 10lb 9 oz Laker to take second place We caught it directly across from Myers on the W shore in 120 FOW. On the wire/dipsy 305ft out on the MTdew SD/ Big Weenie Proc All in all we lost 4 real nice fish that probably would have made the board but we have no idea. I can't wait till the the spring B&B I don't have my name on the boat yet, but I'm sure a lot of you seen me in my 23ft sportcraft with the soft top. The name of the boat is Reel Obsession.. Josh Wilson is the one who is holding the 2nd place fish that he landed. Great job Josh! Thanks FishTails for scarying all the fish my way. Every time Rod drove by me we hooked a fish
  15. I never tried the grease trap yet. I watched the videos. They look pretty sweet. I will be running a 6 rod set up. 2 dipsy/wire, 3 rigger and one junk line either lead or copper down the chute. If i do have 4 people on the boat I might consider running the plannerboards with lead core but still want to be able to turn fairly easy and not sure about boat traffic. Next year I am purchasing more wire rods. I have caught a majortiy of my fish on them this year and want to run 4 of them. I can't wait. Bigweenie Proc is my #1 fly that just produces on every lake I have been on. I will be running channel 68 and my cell will be on too.
  16. All my hots spots dried up too but after I catch the winning fish I will radio everyone where I caught it! Side Bets anyone In all seriousness I think circling areas where you just caught a fish is going to be one of the best things you can do this time of year. Especially true if you are marking lots of bait and fish. If you read my Owasco report I trolled to one end to the other end and back with very little to show for and when I got back to the north end I started marking bait and fish. Next came the rods popping off left and right, right to left . I just kept circling the same spot over and over again and each pass hooked fish after fish but when I made my turns out of the area rods went dead. Thats my tip of the day!
  17. FLX, best upgrade I have ever done! Worth every penny
  18. Nice! Thats a great screen shot. I love to drop my camera down and check out that one
  19. I'm bummed your not going to be there
  20. Me too! I keep hearing all these good things about this lake but I yet to fish it. I'm going to have to make a point and hit it next year.
  21. Nice! Those Bows are so elusive
  22. Thanks. That is going to hurt the bank but I think it would be worth it. My side curtains are junk and I don't have the drop curtain and want it bad. My top is getting pretty rough. Maybe this winter I can pull some pennies together.
  23. Rob, if you don't mind, how much did that run you? I'm thinking about having mine all done but afraid to see what it is going to cost
  24. Wow. That sounds like a blast.
  25. I'm in but have not signed up yet. I too think at least 10lb fish is needed to place. My predicton is that a 13lb 7oz laker is going to win it Its got my name on it. I think fishing is going to be tough for the amount of people fishing. I have already noticed the fish moved out of my hotspot But where there is one fish there is going to be lots of fish. Thats where you will see me
