  1. i used them last year in the deep water, attaching 2 musky's 100ft apart and using cuda's by itself to achieve the depth i wanted, i ran flasher flies with no problems and catching fish, but when i ran spoons i almost always tangled, i am running 30lb braid, i am wondering if u have had these problems and if not what might i be doing wrong ? ( i am tangling the clips on the line, making it impossible to detach to battle the fish to the boat)

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:fast and silver ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9/11, 9/12 Time on Water:6 to 12, 6, 11 Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: decent Surface Temp: Location:fair haven9/11, oswego 9/12 LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 1,0 Total Boated:1,0 Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: jay plug hook set Trolling Speed: 2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 100 to 600 Lure Depth: 50-125 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS well if anyone seen my last report you would know i lost down rigger weight and gear last time out, about 150 dollars worth, well lets just say the old wifes tail that it comes in threes is true, saturday at fair haven sucked until i was pulling rods to go in, and a j-plug hook set droped on the boat floor and i went to grab it and hook stayed attached to the floor and the other hook went straight into my left middle finger buried so deep that it was hard to look at, well that was at 11:30 and by 4:30 north med had finally taken it out, if that wasnt bad enough. i desided to fish sunday out of oswego to make up for the day before, well we got ther early in antispation of the large crowd i expected so at 6am we were going out past the break wall, and by 6:20 we made are 911 call because we were without forward or reverse, after talking to coast gaurd we were not in immediate danger they got us in touch with boat u.s for a tow, well by 8am we still hadnt seen any one and we were drifting fast towards canada, we started in 150fow and by the time we had seen the tow boat we were in 550fow, you think that would be the end of the story, but no way, come to find out the tow boat starts taking on water and calls the coast gaurd for help, 2 coast gaurd boats come out and 1 follows him in and the other hooks up to us and tows us in, the coast gaurd is one class act, always profesional and courtious, and man that captain on the bigger boat can handle that boat flawlessly, all in all we got back to the dock at 11:30, so i think i can take a hint, i am done for this year ====================
  3. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:fast & silver ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/6 Time on Water:6 till noon Weather/Temp:60,s Wind Speed/Direction:wsw 10-15 Waves: 2 to 4 Surface Temp: 70 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:small mouth bass Hot Lure: frog spin doctor green fly, silver and green j-plug Trolling Speed: 2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 100-260 Lure Depth: 55- 125 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILSmanaged to get out and fish, found a ton of bait and hooks in 90-120 fow and caught a 2lb smallmouth on frog colored spin doctor w/green fly set 80 feet down over 100fow, just as the laughter subsided the starboard rigger fires with a jay plug on it set at 60 down, i assurred my partner that it was a better fish and the net will be needed, well those smallmouth sure can give a fight, lol, ( no we didnt need the net, but i thought for sure it was a salmon, but none the less a 4lb smallie hit the deck) its been a few years since i stopped tournament fishing for bass (mainly cause its to easy) but i would have never figured to set up in 100fow to fish for them, the gods werent done with us yet, after switching lures on the port rigger i noticed a kink, i thought it would be ok but i was wrong again, 13lb shark weight hit the bottom, then to pour salt in the wound, went to pop starboard dipsy after that hitting bottom and wanted to check hooks for clams, well lets just say atomic fly, frog colored spin doctor, and frog colored dipsy joined that 13lb shark weight, AND NO KINGS to show for it, the way i look at it that lake owes me, so i expect this weekend the lake to give up its bounty to me or i havent payed enough and its gonna take more!!!!!!!! ====================
  4. we have a 3 day weekend and all wave reports say anywhere from 5 to 9 ft waves all 3 days, most of us work all week and cant wait for the weekend especially after hereing about all the fish being caught all week and then a wind storm hits, that sux, i did manage to try last night got on water at about 3 and literally got blown off a hour later when a wall of wind hit and made a glass lake into 3footers and building, well just wanted to cry a little (got to hang with my wife now, cant wait for hunting season!!!!!!! )
  5. hey thanks tangler, thats were i figured it was, they were #1 dipsys with braid, i figured those to be running at 75 to 80, at least when i seen a hook at 80, we got a hit
  6. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:fast & silver ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/20, 8/21 Time on Water:5:45 to 11, 5:30 to noon on sat. Weather/Temp:sunny, cloudy Wind Speed/Direction:north east, south Waves: 3 on friday, 1 on sat Surface Temp: Location:oswego LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 on 8/20, 12 on 8/21 Total Boated:2 on 8/20, 6 on 8/21 Species Breakdown:1 coho the rest were kings Hot Lure: anything green Trolling Speed: 2.7 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 220 Lure Depth: riggers between 70 and 110, 325 out on dipsys 1.5 setting ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS 1st hour and a half on friday morning was all the action, boated 2 at 20-25lbs, lost another when it bit thru my 50lb test leader to the fly, and that set the stage for saturday, got out earlier on saturday on the account that i figured it would be packed there(i was right, even had to wait in line for the throne, they should put a few more in,lol) went to my waypoints and had them to myself until 2nd hour, preety much fighting big hard hitting kings all morning, never slowed for us, but had lots of disapointments losing fish, 2 come to mind, had a 30lb plus up to boat twice only to lose him on 3rd dive,(beak hook broke, 1 treble broke while the other 2 straightened out,i would be pissed if those flys didnt catch so many fish for me), 2nd fish started with 325 out on dipsy, when he finally came off he was at 675, that was a long reel in without a fish on, all in all had a great time with 5 majors, and a 18lb coho in the box ( if anyone fished oswego on saturday could you tell me where temp was,all the fish on saturday came on dipsy, riggers never fired,i dont have a temp gauge, just kinda wondering where my dipsy were running at ? ) ====================
  7. thanks brian, they were nice to stop fishing and come over to help us
  8. lost my steering today(august 15), around 12:30, with fog just about to roll in and the guys from "time flys" answered my call and pulled there lines to tow me, fortunatly i saw that the rack n pinion steering came unscrewed, we fixed it about the same time the guys showed up to tow us, just want to say THANKS!!! to those guys, with a south wind blowing we could have speaking french by the middle of the week! lol
  9. hey nick had those same waves out of fair haven, they were terrible to fish in, it almist seemed like they were hitting the boat from all sides,i'd of rather fished in 6 footers than those; bob
  10. great advice above but seeing how you western guys have the lock up on all the mature kings early in the year and this year inparticuliar you have been holding onto them a little longer, us eastern guys have been having a great year for browns (warm water), so my advice is go east they are hitting everything and bring some matures with you we would like that
  11. hit those fish too in 120 to 155 on sunday 8/1, did 4 releases in 45min to a hour, 3 browns and 1 small salmon, then we went deep to find matures, went 650, hit 12lb steelhead in 380, no matures, looking forward to this weekend there and i aint leaving fish to find fish, got a feeling you have to wade thru the teenagers to get to the matures at least untill the big schools show up,
  12. been running torpedo weights ( size: cuda & musky ) i am very impressed with these weights on being less stressfull on rods and rod holders and they are taking fish on my boat. just wondering if people are having similiar results or have complaints? just one note with 2 musky weights spread 107 feet apart with 275 line out i am getting 125 feet down (2.5 troll speed)
  13. great advice above but forgot one thing, alot of the reason you use braid is for the smaller diameter ,so your dipsy or torpedo weights dive deeper ,going to a larger diameter braid you will loose that, one thing is sure they do clean off easier with braid and when they make it to your tip they dont jam up and you can still real
  14. i am no pro but when those big kings stop hitting flasher/flys and the spoon bite isnt where it should be ,try a sushie fly, i run it behind a pro troll 8'' or a 8'' spin doctor, all you have to do is retie a tournament fly rig by dropping that treble back a inch and half and installing a .020'' brass wire thru the eye in the beak hook and tying your knot on top of it. that wire wraps your 2 and half inch familiar bite or hearing strip cut in a diamond shape with nose of the bait with a 3/8 inch nose and the rear with a 1/2 inch rear, remember you are still running the skirt from the fly, with this rig it gives it the added smell and body that makes it a little more interesting, i do run a average 20'' leader that gives it the action that is needed
  15. a palomar knot is one of, if not the strongest knot a fisherman can use with mono or braid, i use them exlusively with all my knots to swivels with mono or braid, with no fail. you may want to check if you are tying it correctly and if so, make sure you wet the knot when you cinch it so it does not put a kink in it. if thats all set it may be beat line, i have noticed that with heavier line it does take a little more elbow grease to cinch the knot, hope thats the advise you needed, i know what it means to loose fish especialy when the blame goes on are equipment, good luck
