  1. hey nick this is a great thing, we have never met, but i want to volunteer my boat and 2 seats, i am a marine war vet and my buddy also is, he has videoed for team e outdoors on vet hunt in pennsylvania if u are interested in something like that maybe we can get a few cameras and tape it, pm me we can exchange numbers and set it up
  2. love them, bleeding alewive is doing the damage now, but bull blue dolphin is good one, there kervorkian one is always good for king or two, i like them cause there colors are smooth if you understand that, they have all the same patterns as u are probably running now, paint is good
  3. Hey Tom is there a kids division like Fair Haven, and i think they have one in Mexico ? just wondering i am also bringing my son that day
  4. i just put a full core on my 47's with 360 ft of 50lb braid backing with 30ft of 30lb test to make sure the braid dont slip on the spool, 20ft flouro leader, works fine, all tied with albright knot, although i am concerned that a king may spool me, but 360 ft to play with should be enough, if not, if anyone catches a king with that setup in his mouth i would like it back, with a reward of coarse, lol
  5. The BOAT US package I have will tow me within 25 miles from there slip and pay monetary amount for another tow company to tow me if they can't, and they are supposed to put one of there boats on Oneida lake but like I said if I broke down on onieda lake and got towed in by a tow service then my package would reimburse me for that tow, and yes it is 24/7 on Ontario, but u still need a radio and cell phone to contact them and GPS to tell them your coordinates [ Post made via Android ]
  6. I started fishing lake Ontario 4 years ago, broke down out in front of oswego in 100 ft of water 1 St thing in the morning (blown drive shaft) had tow company coming to get me, they came out a hour and half later and they broke down ( taking in water) so the coast gaurd was dispatched, make a long story short coast gaurd hooked up to us in 650 ft of water, oh yeah south wind that day, thought we would be drinking Canadian beer by nightfall, next day joined BOAT US for 63 dollars unlimited towing for a year, best money I ever spent, just like AAA on the water [ Post made via Android ]
  7. Looking to catch some perch this weekend, any hot spots would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!
  8. just got back from a blue fin tuna and stripper trip from virgina beach and i witnessed the most amazing thing 'boat captains and fisherman being nice on the water' now i know we are all nice people at heart but when there are 100 boats inside a 100 square yds all TROLLING , and no one was screaming and yelling at each other, well i knew than i wasnt in lake ontario, dont know why it was happening, maybe because we were in international waters or maybe they just realize that everyone deserves to fish and have a good time, i know i am the first one to let another boat have it, especially if he cuts me off and i am not above leaving downrigger balls down when they do, must be the marine in me, but this year maybe i will wave and say good luck (and tell him to go screw himself under my breath) WELL GOOD LUCK OUT THERE THIS YEAR IF I DONT SEE YA oh yeah we caught a 325 lb 83 inch blue fin tuna and about 18 strippers
  9. set the hook, males are showing teeth and hooking there jaw, dont set it like a bass master more like a controlled pull to drive the hooks deeper into the jaw bone, your drag is more likely to loose more fish, its got to be smooth and alow the fish to take drag if not you will pull the hooks out and bend more hooks, which sounds exactly what you are doing, also most of these fish are slashing at these baits, not taking them as deeply into there mouths as they were earlier in the summer, your releases no matter how tight will never drive those hooks into there mouth enough for you land them
  10. i just dont understand how walleye rods can be to heavy for browns, you do understand that you can expect to catch browns from 8lb to 14lb on every trip, yes the 4 - 8 lb are more prevelent in the spring, but a 4lb brown puts more strain on your gear than a 8 -10 walleye, and lets not forget you could catch a atlantic and the occasional king, your walleye rods are fine and those 8ft medium action rods will do just fine also, put alot of line on them
  11. its all about how the bait looks to the fish, at 100- 140 ft down on a clear sunny day green may match the hatch better than natural colors, now throw in water clarity, different depths, cloudy skies, partly cloudy skies, rain , high pressure, low pressure ,boat traffic, morning, and afternoon, and last but not least light chop, or heavy chop and you begin to realize why 8 - 12 rods just aint enough, one thing remains the same mainly at deeper depths low electrical currents attract fish, downrigger cable, steel line on your dipsys, copper line, and e-chips in your baits and attractors all put out a little electrical currents, this is one of the best reasons why there are charter boats ( or understanding wifes that allow you to spend a small fortune on a great lakes boat and equipment) , you just cant grab a rod and jump in your boat and go catch offshore salmon and trout, thats why i thank my wife everyday of the summer and then kiss her a## during the rut !!!!!!
  12. hey that guy got a 40 ft boat cause if so he is noted for that, with those guys there i have no tolerence for them, its us the residence of this state that make this fisherie, not his customers, are licence fees have more impact on are hatcheries than the non-residents that buy a 3-day license for pocket change, make no mistake the restarants, gas stations, bars, and hotels make there money from there customers, but you dont see any of them (restarants, gas stations, hotels, and bars ) donating money to the dec or buying conservation stamps. obviously we were all out saturday combat fishing and you have to expect that, but there are small percentage (very small) that think they own those fish and the water, and to those game on, i got one rig this year that cut me off 4 times, 3 i was able to avoid the last i would have to go into neutral, i choose not to, and that rig became my go to rig in bright sun, ha ha ha
  13. great post, looks like you wore out the kid (video games sure dont make them that tired)
  14. hey tim we tried to get out this morning also, only to find my starter off the engine in the bottom of the boat, oh well hard days turn into good days, gonna fix it tomorrow, and try to be out for the weekend, going out of oswego ,you oughta make the trip we can gang up on them

  16. hey, chris it was also nice to talk to you on the dock, i have to say i am a little interested in this jigging for salmon, last year i spun my main shaft and we were driffting for awhile in a south wind, we made it to 650fow water before we were picked up, but we marked a ton of bait and fish and i thought what if we tried jigging for them, unfortunatly all we had were trolling spoons i figured it take for ever for them to get to the fish so we never tried, but after talking to you maybe we should have. well good fishing and we will see you on the water

  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:fast and silver ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/10 Time on Water:5am to 11am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location:fairhaven LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:all kings Hot Lure: flasher flies Trolling Speed: 2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 250 Lure Depth: 95-110 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS 1st rod in, down 3 minutes took 1st fish and what a fiasco that was with all 5 other rods still in the boat, we had to work around all that crap but managed to land upper teens king, did 7 other hits losing 4 , landed 3 in the 20lbs range, great day for the 2 newcomers on the boat they had a blast and had fish and fish stories of the big ones that got away, lol, all flasher flies, couldnt narrow down a specific color other than anything with white and green and all glow 1st thing in am ====================
  21. try walker downriggers for that spring, they have a similar setup for there line counter, springs are only a couple bucks to try
  22. run 2 riggers, 2 divers, and torpedos off the board with braid or wire, alot less expensive to start with then 2 copper setups, also you and fishing partner can see what it takes to run 6 rods
  23. UPDATE: it was bugging the heck out of me why it was breaking, i was sure it wasnt my knots, remembering back 15 years ago when braid 1st caught popularity i had bought some fire line when i tournament fished for bass and on the hook set i would break off, come to find out i could snap the line every 12inches or so, apparently it was a defect, so i took 10 ft sections off my diver rods and tied on a swivel on each end, hooked one side to sometheng stationary and the other to my bow scale and pulled, the 1st line broke in the middle at 7lbs, the next 2 broke in the middle at 22lbs and the 4th broke at knot at 27 lbs, just to see where a mono line would break i tied up 20# fluro leader and that broke at the knot at 29lbs, to say the least i was beside myself, i called bass pro (where i had bought it), they said to bring it in and they would replace it, and they did, i happened to google this problem and it seems to happen alot, something to do with how they make the line, unfortunatly the only other braid they had at bass pro was spider wire, i put 50# on, hopefully that works untill i change over to wire.
  24. I lost 4 divers on saturday due to line breaks on my 30# braid from power pro, i had to respool my reels the night before, couldnt find any suffix 30# braid that i used last year with no problems, i tied a snap lock on the end with a palomar knot that i know is best to use with braid, i did bump bottom on occasion and at time of breaks but i did not think that was significant to break the lines, i did notice that the breaks occured near or at the knot also all 4 times the line broke we were releasing the release to bring in. any suggestions would be appreciated, losing that much tackel was very expensive
  25. i used them all last year, cuda's and musky's, using cuda's by themselves and doubling up the musky's to achieve the depth i wanted, i ran flasher flies with no problem, but when i ran spoons the clips to the divers tangled on the line (30lb braid) making it imposible to detach to bring the fish to the boat, i was careful in deploying them but to no avail it always tangled with or without a fish on, i would love to know what i am doing wrong, also i want to deploy them on my otter boards this year and would like to know if it will work
