  1. a lot of the dicks sporting goods have the stren sonic braid in their clearance bins...you can get all the 300 yd 65lb spools for like 20 bucks which isnt bad
  2. just picked up some 30lb suffix for my pike rig and some 80lb power pro for my XH set up...ive heard good things too about those 2 my MH rods are all set up with 65lb stren sonic braid
  3. yeah i actually just tied that one, i guess its a good one for new braided lines
  4. ive always tied a clinch knot for braid to fluoro leader but just read that its not a good knot for braided lines and might explain why ive lost some lures on hard casts....what knots do you guys tie for super lines to leader swivels?
  5. im not an experience tournament fisherman but i would like to see what its like...anyone need a fishing partner for the tourney? wouldnt want any winnings just an opportunity to fish!
  6. my apologies on the use of names, wasnt thinking clearly when I posted so I am sorry youre all right there is no need for that
  7. sold larry! just ordered it should be here this week! thanks for all of the help
  8. well I have decided I am going to go with the st. croix premier...i love the ones I have already so i figure ill stay with what I know works well...I actually just got back from BP and they had zero for muskie rods...just petes BP series and those were all MH...im just tyring to decide between the H or the XH now but im leaning towards the XH just in case I do start to buy some bigger baits that are over 6 oz...just got a storm thunderbeast in the 11oz size so im thinkin XH would be the best choice right?
  9. captain larry you dont think i should do the xh if i am casting bigger soft plastics or do u think the h would hold up just fine?
  10. i would assume that they are american made isnt the st croix factory in wisconsin? alright i will check those blue grass rods out
  11. wanted some more input on some rods if any of you guys have a minute... was looking to get something in the heavy/xheavy power preferably in the 8-8'6 range, ive already got a stcorix premier 8'mh and a 6'6mh so i want something with some more backbone to it...thats my first question what action should i go with? Im going to be using it for throwing heavier plastics and lures and occasionaly big live bait and trolling, so something universal. so far ive narrowed it down to okuma 8'6 H, st. croix mojo musky 8ft H, pete maina's 8'6 xh, or those new black river musky rods in either the 8ft H or 8'6 xh...all pretty reasonably priced I dont want to go much more expensive than the mojo musky which is 150. im almost leaning towards the mojo musky just bc A.) im happy with my other st croix rods and B.) theyre american made but I am intrigued by those new black river rods and the okuma rods ive read good things so far any help would be good im quite indecisive about this and honestly I feel like im trying to buy a house with how much im looking into it haha, thanks guys
  12. yeah I dont think I HAVE to have split grip or a specialty rod like that (as much as I want one though!) I impulse bought my 8ft mh st corix premier and ive been very happy with it i just dont need to have every setup be worth more than a house haha...those shimano rods look legit and they have a 20.00 rebate on them until may im thinking about getting the 7'6 or 8'0 H or XH...which action would you guys recommend?
  13. while I would like to go with one of those price is a bit of an issue...I dont know if I could justify a 330 dollar rod...but I do like st. croix those are what my 2 other rods are
  14. and while im asking about gear has anyone used the shimano compre muskie rods? ive alwasy been real partial to shimano with all of my spinning setups and was looking into these rods...my only question is in regards to the lure weight, for the heavy actions theyre only like 1.5-3 oz lures i feel like thats awfully light for a heavy action rod, the XH goes 2-6 but im not sure if I want to go up to XH unless it would come in good use. all my rods now are MH one is 6'6 the other is 8'0 and I wanted to have a heavier setup for big suckers or bigger crank/bull dawgs. any input/recommendations?
  15. can anyone tell me what the benefit of having a split grip would be? I always thought of them as rods built for bottom bouncing or flippin jigs but im intrigued by these new st croix mojo musky rods and am thinking about picking one up
  16. stinky finger where in avon? are you talking about them going up conesus creek and getting in there that way? ive always wondered if there were fish in there or not...is the water in that section of the river the same brown mud colored water it is further north?
  17. havent used spoons in a long time... but the last one I used was a sutton spoon up in canada. i dont know the numbers of it but it was about 6 inches long. ive got some of those lindy gator spoons but havent used em much

  19. didnt catch anything! idk why, we worked probably 500 yards of ice and drilled 30+ holes and nothing! frustrating to say the least...the north end was a zoo when we drove by it so I dont want to know how many big girls were laying on the ice. I wonder if their foodsource is taking a hit, you see panfish carried out of there by the thousands I have to think that they take a huge hit I know there are a lot of them in there but that many??
  20. do you think id be better off taking that big circle hook and just back hooking him? they say those circle hooks really do a good job of not getting set deep in the mouth from their shape theyre supposed to get hooked at the mouth corners or the lips
  21. so I was thinking I should make a couple quick strike rigs for some of the big suckers I just got to put under tip ups but I have a question about some of the stuff i got... my only close option was dicks in victor and their selection on anything is god awful so I didnt have much to work with.. but I was looking to use some fluorocarbon but they the heaviest they had was 20 lb so I didnt know if that was strong enough or not and I didnt know if I could get away with using my 65lb braid or not but I got these big circle hooks size 8/0 with what I thought was 50lb fluoro attached but its just 50 lb mono...will that still work or should i cut it off and use something else? then from the eye of that hook I was going to tie a 65 lb. braid line with a trebel to put behind the dorsal just to have some sort of make shift quick strike...will this work or should I do something else?
  22. just got back from S and R bait shop up on culver...drove all the way out there bc no one else around here had suckers and it wasnt a disappointment either got a couple around 9-11 inches which was nice
