  1. i dont think they start for a few more weeks...last year I went in early may and the pike had just finished up and the walleye were filling the creeks
  2. gambler is right, as much as I dont like seeing pike iced letting them sit tight during the winter months would IMO lead to the hammer handles taking over and thinning out the bigguns through lack of food supply.
  3. ^thats kind of the point...it makes the odds of catch and release more probable thats the idea behind iti believe... 40' is WAY too short for keeper muskies, I think im just one of many people who are going to highly disagree with you on that.
  4. ....well I dont think my parents use their above ground swimming pool too much anymore...haha
  5. well I will be sitting for the civil service exam to be an econ officer in the upcoming months so you can guarantee if i get in the NYDEC ill be the fly in the ear for everyone about ny muskie haha
  6. a week ago my aunt said she saw 40-50 pike in the inlet, but then they went down there again and didnt see anything so im not sure whats going on yet maybe the water isnt warm enough yet?
  7. what if it comes right from a bait farm though? I got my bait license to buy from farms and hatcheries, does that make a difference or no?
  8. So I know I can get big suckers from a bait farm but the "pike" shiners are on average 4-5 inches maybe a 6'er scattered througout...i like using bigger shiners also especially if im fishing in water over 20ft or so they give off a nice flash its just hard to find any that are over 6 inches so heres my question, how long would it take to get these 4-5'ers to a plumper 6-8' size? and would it be possible to keep them alive that long given that you moniter water quality, feed them properly, and keep them in a well-aerated and suitable container? Back when bait shops could catch their own bait I used to get some nice big golden colored shiners pushing 9 inches that produced real well for me and I wanted to try and get some like that to fish along with big suckers
  9. do they have any intentions of trying to intervene to get the numbers up? possible stocking programs with muskie from chautauqua hatchery??
  10. I cant really take any credit for the idea though im pretty sure I read it before posted by nitro
  11. id agree with a larger creel limit...idk if id make any changes for tiger muskies though (given that they arent sharing waters with pure muskies) as much as I am a C and R fisherman tigers are "man made" and do grow fast so I dont think they would be regulated quite as much...theres a lot i would change about pike, id make a slot limit for starters....3 fish per day but ONLY if theyre between say 3-35 inches anything under or uver must be released
  12. what about the gander mountain out there? when i was at UB I remember they had a decent selection (compared to other ganders) of esox gear...im not sure if its still any good or not I remember someone saying they supply red october baits?
  13. is there anywhere in the rochester area where you can get some quality pike/muskie gear? I know the demand is limited but even if I could find a place to get some decent fluoro leaders/lures? I know dicks in henrietta has some musky lures and gander has maybe 6 lures total...bass pro has some stuff but their fluoro leaders have huge swivels and locks on them idk how I feel about that...any recommendations?
  14. so is it generally better fishing when pressure is rising or drops?
  15. so im starting to get lunar patterns down, now I just have a few questions with fronts... I know cold fronts make fishing real difficult especially for musky but ive read that before the cold front pushes in the action can really turn on...how long before though? is it like just as the storm is pushing in or hours before or the day before? If say youre in the middle of July and youre out on an 80 degree day fishing and a t-storm is pushing in but there isnt necessarily a temp. change, does this still affect the fish the same way a cold front would? thanks for any help
  16. about a month away! im hoping I can take a pre-opening pike/tiger day musky trip to PA but if not i will go insane waiting for the day to come...already put in an order for 2 lbs of xl shiners and 6 xl suckers to be delivered haha a little premature but maybe I can fatten 'em up for opening day
  17. Zach- When I first went trolling for muskies with my uncle in the 1000 islands him and his good friend who used to guide up there and in the niagara river used a lot of the believers...so I just started off with believers which is why i find myself having a lot of drifter baits! as for the ohio tourney....my boat wont be delivered to the marina until about the last week in april so I might have to scratch that plus I dont think ill be able to get off of work. PA would be a much easier task for me towards the end of april (if i get the boat in time) and Nitro I will get my PA license stat!
  18. Nitro I got my 16ft aluminum lund with a 60hp ill try it out with ya we can split gas and make it cheaper on the both of us!
  19. im still catching up on all these lure names...never knew what a wiley was until I just googled it...looks exactly like the stalkers how similar are they? im quite partial to drifter tackle myself but i dont know the pros and cons between the two or if its just personal preferance... I too will be making more trips to closer areas than fewer longer trips....being some what of a pure ski rookie i think it would be better for me to learn anyways. How far is the cow from here? like timewise? 2 hours? more? hows the susqi river too? which areas are the hotter muskie waters?
  20. loaded up on drifter believers/super stalkers along with plenty of bucks/spinnerbaits....tryin to get some baker baits!
