Its a shame that there are scum bags that put the effort into trying to cheat the guys that put lots of honest hard work and effort into it, but it always feels good to come out with an honest Win
There are always guys that will try to cheat when there is money involved, I've seen some fish weighed in before that looked like they've been dead and sitting in A live well for two weeks, luckily none of them have been money fish
That picture of the brown and bow was the 3rd place brown and I think the guy he was fishing with. I don't see a picture of ron or mitch's fish on seagers site. 99.9%sure they were both lakers.
Weather report looked good and heard of some real good eye action out near my buddies place out on Erie, so I hooked up the boat and headed out at noon. We were on the water by 3:30, started from 12-20 around some of the small unnamed shoals and pounded on smallmouth up to 7lbs, bladebaits, lipless cranks, jigs, cranks, jerkbaits, piece of hot dog, it didn't really matter what you threw out you were getting bit. As the sun started to set around 830 we decided to switch gears and lay out some boards pulling jdhj's taildancers, reefunners, and bombers. First eye(24'' male) hit a blue steel mr-9 flatlined back 120'. After that we had a slow but steady pick of eyes, eventually moving in shallow and switching out to all shallow sticks. Best part about it was there wasn't another boat in sight the whole time we were out there! Heard of a good bite up towards buffalo but we didn't really feel like playing bumper boats and we had a feeling that if we put our time in we would get some away from the crowds and we were right. Kings browns and lakers up on ontario saturday, monster smallies and eyes on erie sunday gotta love WNY!
Water temps started touching 60 at 330 and last time I looked around midnight they were around 56. Planned on trying for perch this morning but we woke up to 15mph southwest winds which are way too much for my 16'
My buddies mom snapped this pic of us from the beach which I thought looked pretty awesome
first 2 of the night
"average size" smallie of the day, only on erie!
launched at 530 went right out to the mudline and headed east. Riggers and dipsys were hot, nothing on copper, lead, or flatines. Purple and glow spoons took every fish. Made it to about shipbuilders before the screen went blank and headed back west. Screen was best from the mouth of Ibay west about 3 miles. All lakers from 5-20 lbs and kings from 5-12 pounds. Ended the day when some @sshole decided cut about 50 yards behind me. Seemed like once those fish on the mudline got ran over a few times they shut right down, but it was nuts when we went through it the first time.
I think I'll try to avoid the weekend/holiday crowd here for a while, seems like there isn't a real set pattern to how most people troll(east/west)
One ounce northland glow jig head with a pearl 4' Berkley ripple Shad paddle tail plastic, that combo has probably netted me more trout than any other set up I've fished
