  1. Thanks p3434 and skipper19 for advice. I'll check both
  2. Sea Flea is sold out on Blood Run web site. I assume that means it works well. Thanks for the info sea-IV. I'll start searching local tackle stores and web search
  3. I fished yesterday with wire dipseys and the fleas were not that bad. I had Berkley big game on my down rigger rods, and fleas were brutal. Couldn't reel in a fish after 45 minutes in the water because the fleas would jam in the rod tip. My brother in law had some kind of blood run flea proof line and wasn't collecting fleas. I have to find out where he bought it and what it's called. Didn't run any braid.
  4. I have a protroll 2 on a 9.9 Yamaha. Lately it's been screwing up and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen similar condition. After running 5 or 6 hours with no problem, the motor will suddenly speed up by it's self without touching the speed knob. Then the knob wont change the speed when you turn it, until you turn the unit off and back on again. I'm running off the big boat gas tank not the small tank and hose that came with the motor. Wondering if the servo motor is getting too hot or maybe the controller unit is getting too hot from sitting in the sun on the dash board. Or maybe fuel flow from running on a half full large gas tank is messing things up. Any opinions ? Pro troll is new this year and Yamaha is only 1 year old. Motor runs fine with manual throttle so I think it's the pro troll messing up.
  5. I also fished Wilson Thursday. Went 12 for 15. 10 kings 2 Steelhead. Majority of fish came on dipsey, spin doctor fly combination. Dipseys on 2 setting 250 back. Pink chrome dipsey with white oring. 270 to 220 FOW. Took a couple of fish on down rigger/spoons. Nothing on lead core.
  6. Thanks NOAA for a totally wrong prediction. 5 to 15 sw wind was east 15 to 20. Still managed two hits on wire dipseys east of Wilson before my rookie crew got sea sick and had to quit. 163 fow, nuke green dipsey, nuke green spin doctor, green fly.
  7. Make sure you have enough down rigger motor if you buy heavy ones. I bought 12 pound torpedoes a few years back. My electric Big Jons were so slow, I had to sell them and go with 10 pounders.
  8. I'm a Lake Erie walleye guy. I take the front treble off my renosky's and they wiggle better, but I really do it because rarely do you catch a walleye on the front hook. Plus you have 3 more barbs to get caught in your net. I keep the middle treble because sometimes you want to add a piece of night crawler and if you put it on the back hook it destroys the wiggle action.
  9. I fished 78 fow out of Catt, half way to Dunkirk Aug 29th. Killed them. Not big fish, 3 to 5 lbs, but tons of fun. We were getting 2 at a time on big dipseys with wire line. Both dipseys set on 3.5 One out 260 feet and the other 200 feet back. Black and purple worm harness on one, Renosky on the other. Down riggers worked also, when fish on screen, send rigger to bottom and trip it off. Worked every time with a bare renosky (no worm required). Worm harness works good but 2 silver bass for every walleye. Find a bunch of fish and stay on them with big wide circle trolling pattern and you will limit. Never got a single fish on the boards with lead core.
  10. I had similar issues with flourocarbon leaders and it turned out to be the knot. Improved clinch does not work with flourocarbon. It slips and unties. Switched to uniknot and no more problems.
