  1. It was all clear at the fort this morning. Let me know how you make out later in the week. Hopefully the smelt move in soon
  2. That was my first time on chaumont. I had my chance but blew it. It's one of those places where u might fish all day for one bite but that one bite might be a monster. That's how it was for me. Oh well. Plenty more out there. I'll be on Erie soon.
  3. I was on herricks and worked back towards Johnson. Lost a nice fish after a short battle.
  4. Had her cruising at around 29 mph at 3800 RPM's and topped out at 39.9 at 5000 RPM's. Could only get her down to 2.2 today at 550 RPM's. Fires right up every time though. She idles a little rough but that's par for a two stroke. Batteries died on the trolling motor so I gave the big motor a shot on our last pass in front of four mile creek. It was great to be on open water again.
  5. 2001 Starcraft Superfisherman 196. Mercury Optimax 135 and Minn Kota Terrova 80lb w/ I pilot. Maiden voyage was today and caught the first of many fish from her.
  6. I was on chaumont Sunday. There was 9-13".
  7. Took my new (to me) boat out for her maiden voyage this morning. Launched around 6:30 and passed by the coast guard station as they were having their coffee. Our first drift out to the green can came up empty. I hooked up with a smallish laker on our second drift and landed what was our only fish for the day. The boats started piling in as we set up for our third drift. We made a few more passes but it was evident the fish are not in their heavy yet. 36 degree water all along the bar and no bait marked at all. We marked a few fish here and there but nothing to keep us interested. We decided to make a quick run to four mile and try for some Browns. We found some 37.5 degree water at the mouth and marked some fish. We lost one bite on a brown trout pattern yozuri crystal minnow. Two passes and we called it a day. I'm just happy the motor ran well, and we got the skunk out of the boat. Next time it's game on.
  8. There was ice between the piers yesterday but my buddy said it has cleared out as of this morning. Launches are clear.
  9. For sure. Any fry along the shoreline is in danger from those bastards. It just happens that the smallies live there year round.
  10. Lake Ontario isn't really setup for a huge population of smallmouth. It gets too deep too fast and lacks the offshore structure to add to their habitat. I'm not saying that there can't be a healthy population in certain locales, because the Niagara river and the bar area has always been a prime location, as I'm sure your favorite spots on the east end do or did. Just like Erie doesn't really support a healthy population of salmon because it just isn't setup for the needs of that fish.
  11. Their hourly weather forecast is usually pretty spot on. As far as fishing, I look for barometer falling or rising, and below 29.90. And definitely days without any variation of an east wind.
  12. Order berts holders from north woods outlet in pinconning Michigan. Best price around and great company to deal with. I think they were $65 each. Just be sure u either tape the caps on or use a better glue.
  13. I just backed my track with some scrap 1x6 Azek vinyl board. Ripped to 3.5" and an inch longer than the track. Pre drill with track as template. And install with fender washers. Makes my 1/8" aluminum gunnels nice and solid, and will never rot. Made two transducer boards too and attached my underwater lights to them
  14. Man, I love my cannons. Just bought my third set of electrics and had a set of manuals many years ago. Tough as nails and handle all the abuse fishing Lake O puts on them.
  15. Same here. I have a couple 3 colors on the 30's and full core on a 45. Make up a 5 color on one reel backwards and load it on the other reel. Count the backing as it goes onto the second reel and duplicate on to the next reel. Power pro will get you more backing due to small diameter.
  16. I have one boat with double keels. Starboard side. I'm near olcott.
  17. Yeah I sold a bunch of gear, $1,300 worth last week in less than 24 hrs. I just thought this was pretty self explanatory without the pics. It's a lot of work shipping this stuff out though.
  18. Yeah. That was an oldie. The 1990 and above superfisherman a have a 96" beam for 176 and 100" for the 196.
  19. You won't be disappointed with capt. Vince. A true legend on Lake Ontario. Good luck
  20. I just sold my 500 because it sucks to pull a fish in on that. If your tourney fishing or chartering, that extra weapon might be important but like these guys said, I fish to relax.
