10 pound big game as back for 5 and 7 core?

Based on my experience, 30# PP as backer on cores is absolutely terrible. I lost a pair of screaming kings a few weeks ago on 2 different cores due to the thin diameter power pro eating into itself on the spool and locking up. Fish gone. Spoon gone. Junk. 2 for 2 on that failure mode and I'm done with it. Off it came that night from all 6 of my cores and into the fire pit. Stuff burns well - finally found a good use for it. I hate the stuff. Maybe 50# power pro wouldn't be as bad. I'm stuck using the 50# behind my two coppers and can't get around that due to reel space - now I'm nervous about having that. I have 20lb Big Game behind all my cores now (2,3,4,5,6,10). All I can say is don't use 30# PP as backer. Maybe increase to the 50# to get the larger diameter. Or go to mono. I'm sure many will have comments about this post and many may have 30# PP as backer rigged right now... That's fine, but I feel obligated to share this. All I can say is once you have a day like I did, you'll be swapping out the stuff too. Losing screaming kings like that keeps you up at night... Especially when you know why it happened. I'll keep power pro on light action perch rods to get the sensitivity. Only good use for the stuff I've found. -

Cisco makes a far superior track. Their attention to detail and designing in features that other tracks lack makes them hard to beat. Is that worth the extra few dollars? To me, YES!!! -
Hit the trench out at Stony and set up at 5:30AM, out to the finger and picked up a brown, and then a small Laker, and to the shipping lanes we went and picked up a bigger Laker and a small Steely. Kind of slow but almost pulled off a grand slam. Lost a really nice ripping King and a decent head thrashing Steely. No complaints - the lake was absolutely beautiful and flat today. And most importantly, My wife had a blast! We put some miles on and headed out further then I've ever been today.

It's a clever way to keep releases stocked in the boat - no reason to pop that last line in if you're checking or changing it. Might as well capture all the inside releases on the way up the tow line! I don't think in my fishing lifetime I will ever be trolling at 4-5mph... unless i'm after Marlin offshore The Amish boards pull hard no matter what speed and I've had them in some rough water. As low as 1.2GPS, my average walleye speed on Ontario of 1.5-1.8GPS, and have used them successfully for Browns and Steelies this year at 2.0-2.9GPS, in 4' chop. I have no reason to exceed these speeds.

It was crazy! What a fire drill on the boat when it happened. I should have upgraded up front per their warnings. I didn't believe it. Now I know.Also - releases slide much easier down the 500lb spectra braid tow line vs the Dacron. That was a noticeable improvement.

My Amish boards snapped the standard hi vis Dacron that came with my GLP planer reels. Upgraded to the 500lb braid. Who has experiences with otters snapping Dacron? Haha just saying...

When you're changing/checking lines, Why don't you try pulling in your furthest line out and reel the release all the way up the tow line to the boat, capturing all popped inside releases on the way back to the boat. Doing this throughout your day should help you keep a good supply of releases handy in the boat. If you run out of 40 releases in a day I'd say it's a good day and someone aboard likely won't mind cranking them in I guess! But when fishing is hot the last thing you want to be doing is screwing around with bringing big boards in multiple times. But hey if that's what you like to do have at it. Just trying to offer some suggestions...

Decked out rocket launchers with 3 poles? Where do you fish, PAP? Some wild stories and experiences in your posts... The Amish boards are awesome. Do they pull hard? Yes! That's exactly what you want in a good set of big boards. Cranking them in is easily achieved while maintaining speed and favoring either a port or starboard heading, and reeling in the same side you're favoring. No big deal. Sounds like many of you need to invest in some more releases. Pulling boards in 2-3 times a day is insane and a waste of time. Keep your lines in the water!

I found the same thing over the last week. 2 of my 6 loosened up significantly. Sloppy. You can take them apart and tighten them. Take the two small Allen bolts out on the Bottom. Those screw holes provide access to 2 more Allen head bolts on the bottom. Take those out. Now the holder should be apart and you can access the large center Allen bolt and tighten it down. I added more loctite to that bolt. It's the culprit and why they loosen up. If cannon was smart they would have just flipped that bolt so that the bolt head could be accessed from the bottom and tightened. Or put a nut on the bottom so it could be tightened there. That way you wouldn't have to disassemble the whole damn thing when they loosen up. They are really awesome holders but going through this scenario is time consuming and not ideal.

Hey, but that new windshield looks good! Haha it was a bit slow this weekend but we still boated a few fish. The plus side was the weather was insanely nice... And we rocked out to ACDC out in the big lake for hours. It passed the time and pumped you up for the next rod that didn't fire. I still don't understand why you weren't picking up eyes out there. We ended with the two big girls and lost 3. Horrible catch ratio but it fit the bill given the type of weekend we had. See ya on the 4th buddy! -

I know man! Ridiculous... I was surprised myself. Ya never know out here though... Slow day for us again targeting trout/salmon. 2 browns, 1 king, and lost a really nice steelhead just outside of nets reach. Boy they're acrobatic. It hurt watching that Blue Tux UV stingray spoon fly out of its mouth this morning! Headed out again in the morning. Good luck out there!

Browns have been slower then normal this year. Walleye has been on fire but you're a little late to the game. Seems like it's cooled off a bit over the last week or so. I'll be up this evening and fishing Friday - Sunday. I'll report back here if there's anything worth sharing. I won't be after walleye this weekend, though.
