  1. FLTA has a tourny there on April the 12th. Does it look like it will be open by then? We had to move it to Seneca last year.
  2. I hear ya about the shoveling. I hope i'm done for this season.
  3. Ouch! Got any neighbor kids looking to earn a few bucks? Thats got to be hard as a rock.
  4. No, I would agree with you. Cayuga isn't what it was 10 years ago. It used to be my favorite lake to go to. We used to love going to Sheldrake point. Spent a lot of my youth there.
  5. If they can find a way to fix Keuka and Canandaigua we would have some serious fishing here. Seneca, Owasco and Cayuga seem to be doing well. Cayuga not so much as Seneca, but in my lifetime, ive seen them swap places. That tells me its not out of the question. Effort on their part is whats needed. Maybe we need to be more involved in discussions about how to proceeded from here. Maybe more Angler Diary Cooperator programs would help. Les had a good point about that, and we should consider the effects.
  6. I would really like some tuna... Mahi will do, but the tuna is to die for.
  7. Hybrid species of trout and salmon arent much different that hybrid plants. There is a reason they are dabbling in this. There is a known decline in natural stocks due to "human impact" of their waters (pollution). Could it be were developing hybrids to combat the contamination of our shores? In the fingerlakes they bred Seneca lake trout with strains from Keuka for a reason. I'm not saying I agree with it, but wouldn't it make sense they are trying to combat something. And experimenting with it. At the same time trying to produce a fishery that can sustain the changes we have made to our waters. There could be hundreds of hypothetical reasons, but Gill-t has raised some very obvious questions about public relations and industry practice when you consider both the NY and Canadian "policies". The fish in question resembles a steelhead, but very thin and not doing well where it was caught. It looks as though the dorsal has been clipped. Many fish in the fingerlakes have dorsal clips that look very much like that. Anyone with DEC stocking reports from that time period could tell if NY released those trout, sold those trout, or other during that time frame. Canada would be another story. It's a really interesting topic to say the least.
  8. I saw the trucks leaving as I was coming back to Watkins today. I was hoping to catch them and to see what was in the creek. Bigfoot, do you happen to know what they consider "safety concerns"? Possibly a large crowd I would guess.
  9. Here are some examples of Pine Valley spoons as well as their catalog #18. I could not find a date on the catalog, so no idea it's vintage. Also, pics 2 and 3 show a Pine Valley with a Great Lakes Lure copy. The "laker" was a popular lure in it's day.
  10. We almost purchase purchased pine valley in 1983. I never knew them to be sold taped, not that they weren't. I was only 13 then. I have one of their catalogues and one of every spoon they made. I will post pics when I get home from the shop tonight. I agree with Les, the 88 does seem to be a pv spoon.
  11. You remind me of my dad. Determined and tough as nails. Nothing wrong with that.
  12. bondo478, Thank you! Hope to meet you at the flea market. Jason
  13. Yeah, I saw the trailers at the harbor. There is a ton of lumber there for the new docks. Took me a while to figure out where they launched. It;s so shallow there I found it hard to believe they could launch there, but it's the only place they could have.
  14. Nautitroller, As of Friday the harbor and the launch are still iced in. I been checking it periodically through the week and it was thawing rather quickly, so who knows, maybe another week or so if the weather stays warm. If I see it open I will post it here. Getting the itch myself. Joe, did you manage to get out this weekend?
  15. I have been meaning to post pics of mine, but its been hectic here lately. I use 2x8 boards for mine. I fish the fingerlakes and I pull 5 leader rigs on mine with 60 oz of lead holding them down. (the rigs) and I can run thru pretty serious waves and not flip them. They pull like a mule, but when they are tuned right, they dont fail. The biggest problem is not to let them stall, cause they will flip when that happens. Mostly because of the weight they are pulling. I will try and post some pics, also, I need a new pair as these have been used for year's and are wore out. So if I get a chance to make new ones, I will post pic on how they are constructed. There was another post about boards where someone said they used a long threaded rod to attach to and bent them for the proper pull. He was spot on about that. Kind of a cantilever effect. thats exactly the way mine are pulled. You can adjust the "drag" and the height with that setup. I use a bunji to hold on to the rig, so shock can be absorbed.
  16. Got plenty of time to figure out if you want to go, so let me know. I have a good friend who just bought a place in Dresden and has 2 docks with lake front property, so we'll be fishing from 2 boats out of there. He's gonna be fishing it a few days prior so we should have a good handle on the conditions come that day. Depending on my schedule before that date I may be there earlier, but not sure as of yet. Keep you posted here as to the details.

  19. I have a 21 ft Chris Craft. 4 is the most I would normally want to take. Anymore and it's a little crowded. Check in with me as the day approaches, we can iron out the details. Jason
  20. I have a spot open. Only 2 of us for that day. I'm staying at Dresden day before and day of, let me know if you want to come. Be glad to have you.
  21. Lost my dog and cat last year. I'm sorry for the loss. It never gets easy. Just harder. Very sorry to hear that. A loved pet and companion is always hard to adjust to. I wish you the best.
  22. I heard the ice was 12" on keuka. 8" is enough to drive on.
