  1. Yep, been using spin doctors for big lakers for the past 2 years now. I keep trying to refine ways to attach a treble like a conventional spoon setup. You dont want the hook trailing too far behind or you get head snags.
  2. Thanks for the offer Sam, but i already have some 8s from basspro. Need something a little bigger. Gonna look into the 9s Sk8 mentioned.
  3. Does anyone know where to get big, key ring size split rings? I’m trying to attach a treble to the rear of a spin doctor. I drilled a hole about a quarter inch in from the edge, center of the tail. I tried regular key rings a couple years ago, and big lakers just straightened them out.
  4. Went out this afternoon with Captain Chris Cinelli of Grand Island . Kinda slow until this beast hit around 3 pm. 47 inch, we’re guessing 33-35 lbs. Fish of a lifetime for me.
  5. No, just straight up trolling sinker and gambler rig
  6. Yes Shawn, I had Gambler make me up some big rigs and they made there way into the rotation. They do seem to work anywhere.“
  7. Hey Pap, I was fishing on the Olcott pier for salmon and another guy was telling me about his trips to NW Canada. He said Lac la Martre was on his list. I googled it, thought about and pulled the trigger. I had never been on anything more than a local charter but thought what the hell. I’m so happy I did. No walleye in LLM. It’s only 60 ft deep so they dont get the true monsters some other deeper lakes get. I did catch 45 lakers 20 lbs and over, so it has numbers.
  8. I went to Lac La Martre in the Canadian NWT for 3rd year in a row and had another great time. Great mixture of laker and pike fishing even though pike are tough in late July.
  9. I went on a charter a few years ago and the captain put couple of rods in the rod holders and put them straight down in the water. He had some perch body baits on.
  10. Don’t know much about stripers. Do guys fish for them for the fight or to eat them?
  11. For the past 2 years I’ve been going to Lac La Martre in the Canadian NWT for lake trout and pike. I’m thinking of trying a king salmon trip this year instead. I’ve been doing alot of online research, but there's so many , its tough to tell which ones really are worth the money. I need a lodge that provides a guide, any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

  13. What kind of net ? I've been using a Cummings landing net with a telescoping handle ( gotta be 7 ft ) on the piers for salmon. The handle is fine , but the net is the basic big hole mesh. A big salmon flopping around can make a tangled mess. I want to upgrade, but I'm not sure which kind works best. Rubber, Rubber coated mesh, PVC coated ?
  14. A stradic 4000 is a great reel. I started out witha Cabelas 9 ft heavy power salmon rod for $99 4 years ago. This year I decided to try an upgrade and bought a St Croix Wild river 9ft heavy power salmon rod for $199. No difference in my opinion, I just spent an extra $100 for the St Croix name. I like the 9ft rod for casting on piers, but everybody has their own preference. I also like #20 power pro.
