  1. Won't be able to make it up this weekend. I ended up getting stuck working. I'll get as much sanding and stuff done as I can. I'll pm you Wednesday when I know how my schedule looks. Which epoxy do you guys recommend for coating the transom Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Firewood law applies to this wood. Can not be transported over 50 miles from harvested location. Guess mostly finger lakes guys would be interested Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Might try Cayuga tomorrow for perch from a canoe. Anyone have any luck? Don't wanna post? Pm me details. Thanks a ton! Mike Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. How many coats of resin on the plywood? Or is it epoxy? I know I read it some where on one of the boating forums. It seems like a lot a work a head.. But I'll be so glad to not have to worry about sinking any time soon. Next boat I buy I'll know what to look for... Live and learn. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Sounds good. Can't wait to get this thing floating! I'll pm you tomorrow. I appreciate all the info. Lots of sanding ahead but with this warm weather coming I'm looking forward to getting it done Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Not kiln dried. Air dried since January. I got most of them cut in small chunks maybe 3" x3" 16" long. I still got to split a bunch just seeing if there is any interest. I'll be setting up a couple pallets with a pay box. Usually some one is home even if my truck isn't. Mike Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Got a bunch of hickory and cherry. Anyone use it? Selling it by the bundle $5 a bundle. 3 bundles for $10. Pick up Ovid. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Works been slow. Trying to come up with the funding right now for the rest of the material. Good info to know tho. I'll start looking into prices tonight. I'm north of Ithaca but don't mind traveling. With the weather warming up hopefully people start spending some money with us tree guys instead of the heating companies Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Scrapped all the wood that I could get off. Is it possible to paint a layer of resin over top of the little bit of wood that is left and sand it a enough to get the new transom in? Only other way I can think of is a power metal brush or sander Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Transom is out! Having hard time getting the last bit of wood off. Looks like they just added one piece over the old one... Fiber glassed it back in... Any suggestions for getting the last ply that is glued to the hull off? Warmer weather coming. Hope to get this project done in next 3 weeks. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Alewives covered a lot of the north shore of Seneca. I've never seen so many. For two miles or so in late May that's all we saw and caught a ton of Pike Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  13. The inside is real bad. Paper like. I think the easiest way is to cut it from the outside. 3" all the way around seems a bit big. 2" probably would work better but I'll start with 3". I can pull the trim off but I'm going to try refrain from popping the top. This my plan- Cut the outside back out, pull all rotted wood and material out, build a cardboard template, cut the new transom, treat with West system, insert new transom, fiberglass the outside, paint, then get in the interior and cut the interior fiber glass out, fix the floor beams in that area, fiber glass the interior back, fix the rest of the main beams, paint for protection, insert floor board, fiber glass that in, after that... it's seats and exterior paint! Lots of work a head of me. I'm defiantly upgrading to a face shield and breather. White masks don't last long and still let stuff threw. Painter suite is a good idea also. I use them when cutting down trees with poison ivy on them. They tear easy but they save a lot of skin!
  14. Sounds good. Thanks again. I have a small job for this morning then I'll start the cutting. Looks like crap weather for another week but I can get the transom out, cut, sealed, and ready to put in for the next warm spell. Looks like late May or early June she'll be in the water!
  15. Motors off! Ready to start cutting... time to decide wether the inside or outside.... either way inside glass needs to be replaced.
  16. Bite has been good on days that reach 60°. Night bite wait till it stays warm over night. I look for spots that the sun has a chance to warm up. Two shallow tho and you'll find all the 6" bait stealers. Chicken liver size depends on what your fishing for (cats or bullheads). The bigger the bait the harder to cast. Sometimes in Slower moving water I like to put a big piece on just a hook and let it sit on bottom. The fish usually run to shore or out, either way if the line moves, the fish has it in its mouth. You can also use a slip sinker in fast moving water. I tend to stay away from moving water in the channel. The stinks dissipates to much and you don't get the effect the livers are suppose to produce. I personally use chicken liver for cat fish, worms for bull head. Bull head are just a bi-catch when waiting for the big cats to move into Montezuma. I spent a lot time down south cat fishing when Katrina hit, waiting on contracts. From what I have read, 50° water temp is what to look for but I'd say any typical spot that has a had a lot of sun. Good luck. -Mike
  17. Not sure how weed treatment builds up into the fish. I'm sure there are a few on here that probably would know. Hip waders saved me a few times this year launching with my canoe. I need a smaller one but it reminds me to work on my bass boat... get it fixed, get it over... Any place worth fishing from shore down there? I might bring the canoe down on a day it's glass like Saturday was.
  18. Yep. Mud locks was windy but fish were there. Moved over to the state park. Not many big bull head there but was fun dragging slob of a carp in. Bowfin fought like a decent cat! Had the red fungus like Seneca pike.
  19. Caught mixed bag. One 10 to 15lbs carp. 29" Bowfin and half dozen eating size bullhead! Lots grass already.
  20. I'm going to try get away with cutting the transom out from the back without popping the top. Might have to install in 3 sections but it won't lose the shape. Today while it's warm I'm going to clean up around the edges, finish getting the motor off, and get some pictures. Couple more weeks and it should be warm through out the nights so I can start getting fiber glass laid. I'm waiting on a buddy to clear a section of his garage so we can get out of the weather. I found about 4 lights with clamps and lizard bulbs in storage. Should help get the holes patched. Seems all the pieces are coming together slowly. Envious of all the boats that were out yesterday! I'll make it out sooner or later lol
  21. I haven't tried them in egg sacs. I don't imagine it would slow the bite. Their after the taste and smell. Texture might make a difference in how long they hold on.... But as long as it's chicken liver it works. I plan on tying some up but weather needs to be 60 again
  22. Heard the perch cycle was good this year. I also was going to try it out but I had concern about eating the fish. They add weed treatment to the lake from my understanding. Not sure how it effects the fish health. Good Luck if you try. Pm me if you give it a try. -Mike
  23. I been wanting to type what sk8 said for a long time... I couple times I did and deleted because I think people don't understand it's not just one thing contributing to change in the lake it's many... I don't believe fisherman were a cause of change, maybe some due to lots of 2 cycle in the lake, but ALL the factors put together can and most likely end poorly...
  24. Comparing Seneca to Ontario is like comparing apples to oranges.... Look at the size difference alone... Fishing has gone down hill in 30years... Keep denying it won't change the facts...
