Does anyone still do any smelting.

Dec claims Zebra mussels eat most of the plankton that they consume. I haven't don't much research.... possibly run off from farms also -
Problem with giving Id #s to track sells of fish is... not everyone is honest... someone will always be paying cash under the table. The answer is... Protecting natural resources from pollution... Not only is there run off from farms, wineries, and homes.... break it down to a sub atomic level and you got particulates from two dumps bonding with hydrogen and oxygen atoms forming rain causing polluted run off... Every time you get a north wind and walk out of the Waterloo Wal-Mart, it smells like you shoved your head in a dumpster... Birth place of Memorial day smells like America's dumpster... Two small towns ran buy idiots that don't even live there greatly effect the natural resources ( the Finger Lakes) for money... Just remember when you smell a fart.... little particles of crap.... just went up your nose... same thing with the smell from the dump (rotting trash)... Wonder how many of these politicians passed basic chemistry....

John from Finger Lakes Angling Zone. He also give a good info on his site. -
Thanks for the info. Probably is better places, last year I really for back into fishing so I'm trying to broaden the types, areas, and techniques. Right now I'm focusing on Perch and Gills. Is there ice on Cayuta still? Maybe I'll just wait till Monday and go down when it a 60° with the canoe.

Seems if everyone got tired of catching nothing... that these smaller lakes would be worth fishing... surprised no info or even views. Guess I'll have to give it a shot

They have to water moving pretty good there. Can you still walk crossed the lock to the spill way side? Had a no trespassing sign so I didn't try... used to be some big fish over there

Tried mud lock today. No luck.

Husky Jerks been the best producers for 15 years. Straight acrossed from Clayton Marine there is a little area me and buddy called pike alley. Usually caught the big ones out front small to medium ones inside it. French creek usually has some in there but I don't know about that late in the season. When the husky jerks won't produce bust out the chartreuse jigs with minnows. Usually do it for perch but it always seems to get some big pike... Few times I've ran into musky up there... Never caught one or had one on... But its exciting to see them raise off the bottom like a log and stare at the boat... If you want pike, Seneca lake has pretty good pike population. On a decent day i can average 2 o 3... Some days up to 10. Just gotta keep casting moving in and out of big Rocky areas. Best of luck to you and the kids. -Mike

Cayuga hasn't had much of chance to freeze. When it has, it didn't look very thick or when I gets thick enough we get a day like today where it is 50°. I wanted take my canoe over to Union Springs but didn't get an answer if I could get out there in a canoe. Might be to shallow. Wishing my main boat would float... But its going to be awhile before it warms up to do fiber glass
