  1. If you compare all charts they seem to plane out around 140 to 240 ft based on setting. I think the 50 lbs stealth is to much, I'll end up switching it out. I'll give the planner boards ago tomorrow. I was going to try a kwik fish out on 5 colors. I read some where braided backing is better for planner boards or mono? O had better luck with the thicker mono.
  2. I think some of the ones you let to in the north end made their way into the state park area. Was loaded with baby trout! Spots on there backs? There were lots of ducks working on them if my eyes don't lie to me and they were trout. Is it possible team release them later in the year when water fowl have migrated south? It might help the success rate. Another thing is the loons were stacked up on port and starboard side marks exiting the canal picking them off... Just a thought for future generations. I truly do care about the lake, and glad to see your efforts! t
  3. Bought a magnum Wednesday, Thursday it met the bottom of Cayuga lake 😒. Oops. Lol. Funny now wasn't funny then. Got another Magnum today. Going to give Seneca ago again tomorrow. What diameter is the 30lbs braided? I am I just going for over kill? Lost dipsy to the bottom that's why I switched to the heavy braided. I always run with rings. Is there a conversion I can go by or just run it out till I hit bottom? Or will it just get a "belly" in the line and go no deeper? Les has mentioned this to me when I met him in person. Just wondering if the belly holds true with dipsys.
  4. Here is my exact dipsy spread with line. 50Lbs backing with Spider wire stealth 50lbs with 14lbs dia dipsy #1 on 0 150ft out. Same setup on pole #2 with 180 ft out. I also use size 0 on #3 with 300 ft out... seems to be my lucky number on Cayuga. Boards seem to be way off to the side but the front seems to be lifted even with 10 lbw mono with a storm stick behind board. I put the 45° bend in tow arm... will try that tomorrow. If the board runs rough will it still produce? Thanks for any info!
  5. LoL. Like I said had to vent after morning in the north end both sides deep and shallow. I wasn't the only one out there frustrated, couple others just weren't producing. Plus no bait. Here is something I did observe.... on the way out just before sunrise, bait was in front of the canal entrance 18 flow with fish. I kept moving assuming they were just perch. Probably should just put a top line out but I was trying to get to deeper water. On the way in to the dock, it looked like tons and tons of baby trout swarming the area. Lateral line with spots on the back. Maybe cause Seneca plankton is dying off bait is starting to move back in for cover and food supply. I still can't figure out why my boards won't run with the boat. They seem to be back heavy and front comes out of the water with the weights all the way forward. Even tried boards with 10lbs mono but changed nothing. I put a 45° bend in the tow arm like I read on Blood tackles pro tips. I'll try it tomorrow. A buddy told me to run copper on a board for Brown's but can't get the board to run right... maybe it is... good luck tomorrow. I'm torn between north end of Cayuga by Shady beach or go for a Seneca slob. Chocies....😜
  6. Gotta say it... and I might be venting a bit... but fishing on Seneca sucks. The fish that I have caught there were like dragging a boot in.... and some one stated that when you catch them on Seneca they are bigger... Not true. Maybe the lunkers, if you catch one... but still compared to any other body of water, Seneca gets two thumbs down for all species except perch and Pike... to bad Pike season isn't even open during the best pike fishing... Mostly venting but I'm in 20 years... Seneca sucks.
  7. I bought some church walleye boards. At this point they seem like a huge waste of money. They won't even pull 10 lbs mono level with the weight all the way forward. I read you can pull 450 ft of copper with them... what am I doing wrong? Also I switched dipsy lines to braided after losing a setup, I put enough line out for 70 ft down. When I try to bounce it off bottom it don't hit till about 40fow. What is going on!?
  8. Out on Seneca now. Huge waste of time. Don't see bait unless it's tight to the bottom. No strikes east or west. Cayuga keeps producing if you wanna catch fish and not waste your time
  9. Drift sock, Dipsy rod or Lead core or Copper rod, 2x decent rod holder's, 2x Dipsy Magnums. Also I have two Church Tackle Walleye boards to trade or sell. Brand new they just are not big enough for what I was trying to do (lead core out on boards). Thanks, Mike
  10. I read an article post on Finger Lakes Times web site about how terrible the fishing in Seneca is because how much bait there is. I don't know how true this is tho. I personally have never seen a bait school as big as the one in spring on Seneca. Maybe the charter guy was just mad that he wasn't catching as much. More bait the bigger the fish right? Maybe harder to catch but from pics I've seen of fish on Seneca... they seem bigger and healthier
  11. I was going to try it Saturday by Sheldrake with some lead core down the shoot. I as getting LLs and bows. There was a huge school of bait by Sheldrake, LLs were chasing my jig right to the surface! Water was 64°. Went up 2 degrees.
  12. Oh.... I used the cheap rod holder that was already on the boat... guess what's getting replaced tomorrow after work lol. Paddle tail Zoom Flukes work good. Has to be the paddle tail. The fish tails don't work. Spend many days catching nothing til some one at Dean's cove showed me the right ones. In my opinion if you get smaller alewifes (Sawbellies) and float them out there on a bobber or get it them out and down with a sinker you might have some luck. Jigging, I only get hits when I can get pretty much perfectly vertical off shore. Its fun when you get a big one on 8lbs test
  13. Jigged lakers over by Belhurts. Was early bite then nadda. Any Salmon of size when you went out Reel?
  14. If you get some Sawbellies and float them out you might get Salmon or Rainbows. I caught both all the way to T falls. Only around 16" but their fun. I also caught them on a bass pro jig. Looks like Alewife with a trouble hook. Comes in 1 oz and 3/4oz. The Salmon chased it right to the surface. Maybe you can get lucky with some live bait. I trolled from Sheldrake down. Then jigged in front. I didn't troll back... I lost a pole with full setup to the lake...
  15. If there is a contract for the right of way, I don't think that it can change if they shut down stream fishing. Right a ways can stay open for researchers keeping the right a ways contracts good. Like you said tho can't stop all criminals, but there are ways to deal with them. Game cams are and easy start. If your caught on camera at night.... ticket. No point of being in creeks after night... I haven't seen a smelt run since I was 10 or 12.... almost 20 years... I'm sure closing them down won't stop people from illegal harvests... but it will slow them down. Hopefully.
  16. Jason I sent you a message with some observations I made. If you need to know where that beach I told you was PM me back. Seems every fish in the lake was out there Monday. I may try it today... but I'm pretty sick
  17. Surface was 62. Might get a probe. "Last thing I need" for trout fishing... girlfriend hates hearing it... there always is one more thing. Oh well. That's fishing...
  18. Tons of baby bow and Landlock by Sheldrake. Couldn't lock onto anything big. We could easily find the LL's and Bows by swirls on the surface. Didn't see much on the screen below 150fow. We gave it till 2:30and had enough. We gave jigging a shot. We would lose the bait school soon as we turned the main motor off. Thought I had one small one on but shook the hook just as quick.
  19. Thanks Les. I've had the lines set to 70 ft and didn't end up hitting bottom. Switched my lines to braided so the dipsy what trip and wouldn't stretch with the longer line out. I was going to try a 2oz trolling sinker on a board to start tomorrow. Customer told me where they were catching some Brown's and showed me what they where using. Hopefully we can hook up on something tomorrow. Got a friend coming out to co-pilot again. Hit it every which way we can. Kids turned my new fish finder on while it was out of the water, who knows for how long.... hope transducer still works :/
  20. I use between 4 and 6 foot leader. Haven't tried over that with dipsy cause it makes the fish hard to get to the boat with SD leader down to fly or wobbled leader. I use floracorbon for leaders.
  21. Yep, noticed a less consistent hit with the braided. Better hits on mono but had hard time getting dipsy to trip
  22. I been running a Dream Weaver Chicken Wing. Its Black and Copper with a emerald sticker on it. Dipsey 0 on 3 with 300 ft. Or on 0 at 240 with braided line. I had a nice one on between Dean's and Sheldrake. Charter guy come from past LP when we were out. I wasn't braving the bigger waves
  23. Rainbows down 40 ft. All dinks. No Lakers out of Sheldrake to LP. Might of had one but newbie yanked when we were trolling,g Was real rough yesterday. 4 ft swells. I had a co-pilot for yesterday. Seneca had Lakers stacked out by Belhurts. Was solo that day.
  24. Sounds like a good idea. Girl friend might even be down for that. She likes the shore fishing better. Hook it to a surprise fish may the kids will get off the games
  25. Thanks all. Going to trying couple spots in the rain. Then take the boys out this weekend. Next week is all work. Everyone is looking to get final trims before heading south for the winter. I'm not one to sit home just because it's raining.
