Crestliner - Nor do I want to hijack the post - but curious.  I have two mag 5's.  Like the size since I run a 19' Key West.  but.  One year in, they are full of water and short out.  Closest place to get service is fairhaven.  Wondering id a $400 rigger is worth service or the car ride.  Have you ever had or heard of that problem.  I replaced some old mag10's that had to have 20 years on them.  The wiring was getting old, blowing fuses and were dead slow coming up from 100'.  No I wish I would have just rebuilt the mag 10's

I've had mine for three years and never had that problem. Obviously yours weren't sealed properly. Don't remember the cannon warranty but If I had to put money on my mag 5 I'd rather put that money on magnum-metalz.

  2. Very nice place, I fished lac Hebert about 10 years ago. We had to drive to Clova and than take a flight in a beaver for about 45 mins. All the camps are on an island. We were there for a week and every single day we were landing walleye after walleye, lots of pike too.

were running 8-9' talora mediums on champ and have been working good. not like catching on a lite uglystick but feel you need the backbone of a med with the divers.

I thought about using a medium downrigger rod but I wondered if it would have the power because it's not built for that.

I can’t say enough about the GLTs. I’ve had them for 7yrs now and they have taken a pounding by kings and lakers. Yet when I’m trolling on Erie for walleye they still have enough action to them to see when you pick up a 2lb walleye or sheephead. And at $25-30 bucks the price to performance ratio is hard to beat.

Actually I was looking at the GLT 9' M (10-25 lb) for dipsy. Built for dipsy and probably more lite than my coldwaters. Also it's not a big risk at that price.

  4. Hi all, I have two 9' coldwater pro dipsy rods (wire) and I'm very satisfied. It perform nicely with average to large size lake Ontario fish. But when I fish lake Champlain's landlocked salmon I barely feel the fish. I'm looking for two dipsy rods (braid would be fine) that can handle a slide diver lite bite and be lite enough to feel the fight. What are your thoughts?
