Apparently year 2018 and few years after will be the best in a long time for walleye on Erie. Perfect timing for a first visite.

wow man thats shocking. we fished Barcelona going east towards dunkirk. 30-60fow and slayed them on 2-3-5 color lead core, long lines, and riggers up high.
but like you said, it beats work. Well be out fishing tomorrow and sunday as well.
Wow, I will try Erie for the first time in august. Will Dunkirk area still a good place to go that time of year? What was the average size of those walleye?

Looks like you're all set for a great walleye season. For sure they won't resist

Don't always get stuck thinking flasher or Spin Doc because the old style dodger /spoon combination can often impart better action to the spoon depending on what you are running and may tolerate speed a bit better within the range of the spoon.
Yes sure I sometime use a size 0 trashcan dodger with a flutter spoon 3 to 4 feet behind on lake Champlain for lakers, works great. But I never tried a spoon behind a flasher or spin doc, was wondering what length of leader most guys use.

You dont here alot of talk about it but trust me i allways run spoons behind padels and spin doctors just use a long leader to the spoon as it does not need action from the padel .
What length of leader you normally use?

I used to go there in november for stream fishing and the owner of the Sodus Point bait shop right at the marina was also the owner of Sodus Point lodge and Log Cabin about 300 meters past the bait shop on Greig st.

Yes i was at main duck.
I've heard guys making the distance for eyes but for lakers, its the first time.

That's a long run, if it's there that you hooked the eye on your picture then it's worth the trip.

Hi Deltakid, did you fish the main duck for lakers?

If laker fishing is for lazy people, he has no idea what he is talking about. Laker fishing is WAY more work than king fishing. King fishing, you set your spread and cover water. Laker fishing, you are constantly reeling in fish and resetting riggers, adjusting the riggers to keep them close to the bottom and washing the laker poop off the deck.

The "Big Red Barn" is about 3 miles west of Olcott. That is just a guess. It is a landmark that can be seen from the water. If you are out in a boat, from east to west, you will see the Somerset smoke stack, the microwave tower, Olcott water tower, then the big red barn.

I've been reading this in some posts lately, is it the border?

they are generally meant to be used for larger flashers. you can use them with 8" and still have success.
One thing I do on some is I cut the lead just after the teasers and install either a barrel swivel or a snap on the end. I also install a snap on the tag end of the meat head. This gives me the option of running teasers with the meat head or just removing the teasers and run the meat head directly to the paddle. I can also change the meat head color anytime I want and use the same teasers
Thanks for sharing Mike!

Hi guys, I bought pre riged meat rig with three teasers and the meat head last winter. They're 57 inches long with the bead chain. Must be riged for large paddle only? I've only 8 inches SD and Pro-troll. I'm wondering if it will work anyway and if not witch modifications should I make to them. Thanks.

Hi Cuttermag, I have two of them and they're ok. I have four Okuma concector and for a little more money I prefer them, the drag is smooter.

If I were to run a barrel swivel at any time it would be at least 5'-6' away from lure with tag ends left on the barrel swivel at the tie points. Is it necessary? At the above distance, it probably will help more than hurt. I tie direct to the front eye on our Honeybees. Can't ever remember of ever having a twist from a clean lure (without debris). That being said if you take the front ring off and use a snap wit a barrel swivel, in line, line. Should be fine. I would never recommend for another product without testing it ad that won't happen much anymore. Check the url (http://www.tamiron.com/Articles.asp?ID=257) for what happens at various speeds and methods of attachment of Honeybees and try to use the same logic on other products.
I always used a barrel swivel with snap direct on my spoon and lots of them has a split rig on the front eye. It is certain that I am going to try this method. Thanks.

Rochester basin is one of the best place for lakers on lake Ontario. Before you get there, get in touch with Gambler right here in LOU, he's the guy you want to talk to. He's from the area and has all the gear you need. He has a web site, google it gambler rigs.
Well just realized you already got all it takes ... garanteed success in Rochester with that.

Two different lengths I will put to test on Champlain salmon. I guess spoons are more versatile.
