  1. I fish stricly with estaz flies once the fish enter the river. I have always done well on the lake with anything Green or black/white. Make sure to check the regulations in the river. I believe the lures need to be the floating style and have a hook regulation. Good luck out there.

What size estaz flies and what colors?

  2. It comes up really fast, especially if you are tight in 80-90' of water. You can see in above picture how close the contour lines run. Just be careful and pay attention. When the kings start staging they will be tight but you can do fine off the break and not be so nervous.

One thing though please pay attention to other boats and try not to pinch someone on the inside as if they are running wire dipsys there isn't time to clear everything. I have been pinched in and locked up a few balls.

there also is a hump in the 140' of water a little ways off the mountain that goes to 107' and then drops back down. It doesn't show on the updated map and isn't that big but can really surprise you. I have it marked so I raise my riggers at the last second if I'm running any below 105' of water. Most times I don't worry about the dipsys, I usually run them 100' or higher.

One more thing I'd like to point out is running copper. It really works but in my opinion isn't something to run when combat fishing. People are not expecting it and will turn Behind you causing a disaster. I love copper but only deploy when Ive found a pod of my own fish with no boats around. When the trench heats up and there is a ton of boats I sometimes elect not to even run my dipsys if I don't need to, but this is just my opinion.

I don't run copper neither leadcore, I fish alone or with my girlfriend so two riggers and two dipsys is enough for me. Talking about browns, will it be good in the next two months or so?

Here is a better picture of the mountain or the wall as some call it. It's a great spot to run tight on the break with spoons on the riggers for Brown Trout.

    Hi starcrafloaded,

Is that wall dangerous like the wall in shipping line to snag the downrigger ball? I hope to get there soon, it seems that the weather can't give me 2 or 3 days with good conditions. We're in the second week of august, is the kings going to begin stagging soon?

  4. We all better start taking more lakers out of the water or that's all we will have to fish for. Nobody travels hundreds of miles to catch lake trout. It's all about the Kings.

I do travel hundreds of miles for lakers, many times each year, from Quebec to Lake Champlain or Lake Ontario. But I agree, most people want to catch King.

  5. I put them on the bogo with a 3ft rope with a loop, put them in the water, hook to the center cleat tow them for a minute or two, with the water flowing through their gills in the proper direction, most all take off like a rocket. Some of those who said they plant lakers in their garden, Hmmm,,,, how many charters did they save last year!!

Well said! I hope you guys will take great care of that amazing fisheries.

  6. We caught 4 kings and 1 lake trout between the mountain and the finger. We caught fish in 135 to 145 feet of water down 90 to 135. FF and spoons. UV green was best. We caught 3 of the kings on UV green spoon 90 down on wingers. They were definitely in 60 degree water. Lake was calm. All fish came between 1 and 3 p.m.

Hi markdaniel, I've been following that post from the begining and it's very interesting. I'm wondering where are the mountain and the finger?

  7. That DEff was not the case on the east end!!! All day 5-8' and it is still close to that now. This weekend, Saturday should be fine for your boat. If you are looking for lakers out of the SR, run north off the dunes, there will be an armada there. Most if not all of the charters from SR will be there fishing lakers. Good luck.

    Capt Rich

Hi Capt Rich, was wondering what is the dunes?

  8. 24 volt terrova. Autopilot for steering with the main motor as thrust will last all day. Just using the terrova for night walleye in shallow, I only get about 5 hrs

King Slammin, when you use your terrova for steering, in how much you have to settle the power thrust to keep the boat straight and be able to last all day.

  9. Scoot to 150' - 180' and work the contours near "the wall"... they call it that for a reason, so don't get caught with your riggers down and come up on it!!  Give yourself some room, especially if you see the charters working that area tightly.  We'd all like to think that other boats will do the right thing and not force you into a bad position but that's rarely the case.  Don't get caught inside and put yourself in that position.

I'd start with a rigger high around 40-50' and another rigger 80-100' and dipseys splitting that range.  Do you have a temp probe?  I usually put my deep rigger at 42-43deg and work up from there.

Spoon on the high rigger.  flasher/fly on dipseys and low rigger.  "Stack" or "Cheat" the low rigger with a spoon.  I have been running big boards and throwing out 6-10 color cores but not necessary.  keep it simple.

FleetTracker, in the Henderson area is there any closer productive spot then the wall in shipping lane to catch those monsters lakers and kings. I'm from Quebec and have been interested in going in the Henderson Harbor this summer. It's a 3.5 to 4 hours drive for me to get there witch is reasonnable. I have a good size boat (Crestliner commander 1850) but it's a 20 + miles ride to get there. I've been fishing lake Ontario for few years but never fished that far.
