Todd - thanks for the info. Do you think chips are far superior, or a worthwhile investment over factory maps? I know there is a feature that I can plot and save my own readings but as a rookie I'd rather spend my time learning my gear and getting on fish than monkeying with the chart. I think if I sit there and poke around I'll be like the people you see out to eat at a restaurant jamming on their phones all night or the folks that text and walking into walls.

So, I did a search but nothing was really current or answered my question. Obviously my #1 target is salmon on LadyO and will prob spend most of my time within the 400' mark. Also plan to do some Erie eyes/perch and musky in the river, smb, and chataqua. Looking to see if the chips like navionics etc are worth the investment. I'll be running a carbon and an smaller elite this year (my first full year) and I want to get my gear right sooner than later. Any suggestions are appreciated ! Tia

Loaded question(s) Do you have a shotgun/rifle already ?? To blindly answer your questions .223/.243/22-250/.204 w/factory hornady Optics, as much as you can afford (thermal is ultimate) Lights, a good headlamp for scanning and kill light in red LED Hand calls are great, FoxPro with the tx1000 remote (is ultimate) Decoy that attached to FoxPro (foxjack) so you control movement.

Ended up with a carbon 9 with totalscan ducer. Cost less than most places sell gen3 without ducer. It was a new, take off but still new with warranty and a considerable savings. I saved about 50-60% of average retail. Went back and forth and ended up in the middle

But the biggest value was the fact he took the time to help me and answered a ton of questions. Not that I expected any different but more knowledge in 5 min then countless trips to Cabela's.

If you look at the prices they have, they are already some of the best on the web. Justin worked with me and I'm a bit frugal to say the least. Needless to say I'm happy and saved more than I spent. I'll assume he will do group buys. He's on some other forums and gives them great pricing too...

Just picked up another chart from Justin. These guys run some great deals and A++ customer service and knowledge. Figured I'd pass this along. I asked Justin to sign up with the site in hopes we could get some LOU discounts too, not sure how that works with the mods but I'll let him figure that out. I am not affiliated with them, just enjoy a good transaction when your spending hard earned cash http://www.russellmarineproducts.com/default.asp

My first open lake king, 26#. Had only done tribs prior. This fish ruined me. Forced me to buy a boat less than a month later....and here I am, Lou member and counting down the days till spring ! This was a buddy's boat, my first experience trolling for salmon. he was just setting up the program with 4 out of 8 lines wet and I noticed a rigger rod bouncing, I was like... Ummmm dude, what's with that rod..??.lol. FISH ON !!! Literally just got done telling him I expected a fish on in >5min. -
Sweet. What are you feeding these slobs ??

Sounds like a perfect "excuse" to buy a new rig. I have a savage lightweight hunter. Bolt action, tack driver in .308. Unbelievably light. I still prefer the semi auto .223 for dogs but weighs 2x as much. Coyote caliber is only determined by end goal for fur. Want to tan everything you kill, .17 or 204 or even .223 with right ammo. Want them dead where you hit em, .308, 6.5 etc. Either way, just buy a few and see what you like [emoji12]

Depends on the call/ time of day and stand. Distress I'll let go for up to 10 minutes but I fluctuate volume most of the set. As far as vocals go, as soon as the sun goes down locator vocals. After an hour or so of dark female howls for breeding season, coyote pup distress etc. I highly recommend you stay away from challenge vocals or barks. The only time they should be used is if you have a dog or two that will answer everything you throw at em but won't come closer. Basically it's the come here, come here come here's and if that don't work it's the FU I'm gonna come get you first or get the F off my turf ! Lol, sorry for the vulgar analogies. Every stand is different. Most dogs react different. Picking up the similarities during your stands will help make your kill number higher. Don't be afraid to try anything (besides challenge calls) when your out there. I have killed some dogs over some crazy sounds. Over calling is your worst enemy. The wind is too.
