  1. My first open lake king, 26#. Had only done tribs prior. This fish ruined me. Forced me to buy a boat less than a month later....and here I am, Lou member and counting down the days till spring ! This was a buddy's boat, my first experience trolling for salmon. he was just setting up the program with 4 out of 8 lines wet and I noticed a rigger rod bouncing, I was like... Ummmm dude, what's with that rod..??.lol. FISH ON !!! Literally just got done telling him I expected a fish on in >5min.
  2. Sweet. What are you feeding these slobs ??
  3. Sounds like a perfect "excuse" to buy a new rig. I have a savage lightweight hunter. Bolt action, tack driver in .308. Unbelievably light. I still prefer the semi auto .223 for dogs but weighs 2x as much. Coyote caliber is only determined by end goal for fur. Want to tan everything you kill, .17 or 204 or even .223 with right ammo. Want them dead where you hit em, .308, 6.5 etc. Either way, just buy a few and see what you like [emoji12]
  4. Depends on the call/ time of day and stand. Distress I'll let go for up to 10 minutes but I fluctuate volume most of the set. As far as vocals go, as soon as the sun goes down locator vocals. After an hour or so of dark female howls for breeding season, coyote pup distress etc. I highly recommend you stay away from challenge vocals or barks. The only time they should be used is if you have a dog or two that will answer everything you throw at em but won't come closer. Basically it's the come here, come here come here's and if that don't work it's the FU I'm gonna come get you first or get the F off my turf ! Lol, sorry for the vulgar analogies. Every stand is different. Most dogs react different. Picking up the similarities during your stands will help make your kill number higher. Don't be afraid to try anything (besides challenge calls) when your out there. I have killed some dogs over some crazy sounds. Over calling is your worst enemy. The wind is too.
  5. Sometimes, the same call at the same place can get you fur. U never know. Keep trying. Don't overcall cause u will school the dogs quickly. Watching your wind is also very, very important. I can count on one hand the times dogs didn't come in down wind. Plan for that with caller and setup. If you saw alot of tracks but none were together that's typically a hunting pack that's spread out to cover ground. You catch them with some vocals at night and you may be able to stack one on top of the other !
  6. Good looking dog !! Nice work
  7. Heck yea !!
  8. I'd stick with distress calls. Birds. Rabbit. Domestic etc. U may get a fox to come in too. I typically use vocals at night only. Hardwoods try woodpecker. Thick and brushy try rabbit.
  9. I'll look for him !
  10. This will be my first expo. Excited for it. Hopefully I can score some new ideas and gear and not break the bank. Btw, if my wife asks I'm on a "business" trip....
  11. Fishing in the off season....lol
  12. Had an awesome first hunt last night. Got out of the truck and they were singing about 1/4 mile away.. headed to my spot and had an alpha howl within 100. Setup quick in a spot I didn't love, but didn't want to blow him out. Ended up having two dogs make a giant circle around me (wind was swirling) they barked a few times then came behind me through the woods and came out in the cut corn. Unfortunately I didn't have a great shot so I decided to hold off instead of educate. I'll give em a couple days rest and hunt another location a few hundred yards away. Nothing like headed to a stand at night and have that big ole song dog howling close.
  13. That deer on the far left has some cool white boots on !!
  14. Get my first full season in as a new captain! Get the wife and kids out for a few sunset cruises Try and repower to 4stroke ($$) And the two goals I had in 17 that I'll carry over to 18... Catch a 40# king Catch a 50" musky
  15. I have the foxjack that is incorporated t In the shockwave. I love it. Works great, crazy action and operated on the same remote as the caller
  16. Coyotes can be killed at anytime of the day... I stick with night time as I feel I'm more likely to cross paths with a naturally nocturnal animal. Once the temps drop and snow conditions change I will do some early mornings and even some afternoon hunts. If a yote can't fill his belly at night and it's cold, they will need to hunt the afternoon. Also, they typically aren't in a den and they are bedded in earshot of a call. Sometimes you can just be at the right place at the right time and score one at high noon. I am Def not an expert hunter, trust me but I have spent alot of time after em. If you like forums check out bark at the moon. Great group and always willing to help. There are some guys on there that put down unreal numbers. I believe there is a 2 man crew on there way to the 100 mark for this year...
  17. Best bet is to knock on some farmers doors. They usually have no issue with dog hunters. Also, some have dead piles and can be very fun to hunt over.
  18. X2
  19. I have the shockwave. Love it. Use the heck out of it too. Just got dropped off by the mail lady too, so I'll be after some Erie county dogs tonight !!
  20. Ok, last blast with everything I got !
  21. Triple post... Jeez. My bad !
  22. Double post
  23. The "overwatch" bed. Top of the ridge, overlooking a big bedding area on the left and cut beans on the right. One more step and your down the hill. I have a feeling it was a mature buck, at least it's nice to think !!
