  1. Back at it again today. Lookin for my bear. Now that i found the food and lots of bear sign its time to give my feet a break and sit and wait. The morning started off right. Within minutes i had a nice mature 9pt walk within 40 yrds. I was thinkin of bringin the crossbow with me but this week is all about a bear. I’ll start archery huntin after muzzleloader bear is done.
  2. IMO. Its all about the story. U hunted him for quite some time now and if he messes up and u capitolize on it. It will make on hell of a story. All my mounts have a story behind them. Even my smaller mounts. I hunted a big mature 8 swamp donkey last year up until the last day of flintlock season. Got within 20ft of him and he outsmarted me everytime. I passed a nice young 10 up waiting for that 8. I respect that deer and if i get on him again this year, my tag is saved for him cause it would be a great story behind it.
  3. Pretty sickening story here. This fella pissed me off to the point he almost wound up Dead like the bear he shot. i had to pour a concrete floor today in a garage, 75yards of concrete, so needless to say There was no hunting. The owner, owns a trailer park on the bottom of a mountain with 300 acres surrounded by 7 thousand acres of gamelands. He has a severe bear problem. There in the dumpsters every night and he has been askin me to please come down and take care of the bear. Honestly its an easy hunt, but if i took one out i could never be proud if it. I show up at 7am this morning and theres a kid my age 35ish walkin around in orange and he told me he just shot a bear and hes trackin it. Wish him luck and i pour the floor. While I’m waiting to finish the floor I get talkin to him and even join in on the tracking. Well turns out he shot the bear from his truck at 11pm last night while the bear was standing at the dumpster. The owner pulled the surveillance and it showed it all clear as day. Kid walkin in 5 min after the shot and pushed the bear multiple times. The bear was Good size. Over 400lbs. The kid wound up payin $200 for a trackin dog and as i left at 5pm he was still lookin for it. He approached me after i seen the video and i snapped, called him every name in the book and kid cowered back to the woods. Needless to say i did not tell him when u find it theres no check stations open. GC goes and inspects all archery/muzzleloader kill sites. can’t wait to c what happened to him when i go back to pour again friday. theres a reason nuisance bears gets trapped and not shot out of a dumpster. Worst part of it. He sat in his truck for two hours waiting for the bear with his young 10-11 year old son. Way to teach ur kid skum bag. I didnt report it as im not that kind of guy but this is a fella who deserves Getting smashed with the book.
  4. That all depends. First off diet. A bear eating garbage has a strong gamey taste. The bear I shot all feed on oak cherry and hickory so theres hardly any “gamey taste” 2nd it depends on how fast a bear is processed. Theres two layers of fat. Outer fat is real greasy, and if it stays on the bear to long after it is killed it will seep into the meet and it will make the meat rancid. I process all my meat. My bear get skinned and fat removed as soon as I leave the check station. My bear meat is very good. I have had people try n give me bear meat, but i wont take it. Most people shot a bear and drive around with it for a day or two showing it off therfore it tastes like crap.
  5. Great day to be out again. Feels GREAT to still have a tag and keep my bear season goin. LoL. I shot 4 bears in the last 5 years. 2 archery, two rifle, all on gamelands in 3 different countys. Rangin from 120lb to 230lb. Rather difficult to let one go but If I have an opportunity to size them up i wont take a small bear and especially a sal with cubs. gotta pour concrete tomarrow and hopefully back out wendsday
  6. Beautiful day to be out in NEPA bear hunting. After my 16mile hike Friday I found a nice stand of oak with mostly full nuts and bear **** all around. I’m focused on that area today and already seen a sal with 2 1 year old cubs. Lookin for that big bore!
  7. I have a tagalong sandblaster and fresh air suit. Do alot of blasting on heavy equipment. Just never blasted fiberglass before. I ran a few cups of soda trou the harbor freight blaster and it worked pretty good. Definitely gonna take 5-6 bags of soda at $40 a bag to do a baha 280 weekender.
  8. This cracks me up everytime and thought it was good for a laugh for you guys. I try and watch the outdoor channel and most of the time after 10min I gotta turn it off. Hachimo has already busted one tv last year. One video had a bear run off screen to the right and the damn dog chased it upstairs He will sit for hours watchin deer on the tv. IMG_2180.MOV
  9. LOL. Just went to harbor freight and they have 50lb bags of sodium carbonate. Maybe i should have read the bag last time i was there. I thought it was sand
  10. Just wondering what medians people use to sandblast the bottompaint off. After lookin into it and other members said usually they use sodium bicarbonate “baking soda”. I cant find it in bulk anywhere. Anyone know where i can get 50lb bags? Also is there another median i can use without risking damage? thanks for any help.
  11. Man, I am doin something severely wrong with my plots. Never had anything come up like u guys do. Definitely gonna reach out to some of u guys next summer for advice. Great work fellas
  12. Not much happening on my game canreas but i got two mothers that each had twins and its so funny to watch them everyday
  13. It was great my friend. My track was 16.3miles. Just got done with the walk at 5pm. More of a scouting trip then anything. Didnt see any bear. If i did this walk last year I would have seen over 12bears. Food is scarce this year. There all in the towns eating out of dumpsters. I did have two bucks in the 120-130” area in the scope. Should have brought the crossbow. Monday will b another trip
  14. My season finally started this morning. First day muzzleloader bear. Feels so good to b out with my new Cva Accura MR.
  15. I have a similar goal for buck hunting my property. When I hunt in my nice enclosed treestand with my lazyboy and heater in it. I won’t shoot nothin smaller then 120”. But I hardly hunt at home. When I’m on state lands hiking 5-8 miles to my stand, anything goes down. For me the hunt means more then the size of the buck. Thats a great buck. I would be proud of it. Nice work
  16. Just home from the range. Only chamge I made is bullet to a traditions Smackdown 250gr and ai quite pleased. Gonna stick with the 110gr of BH209 250gr smackdown for now. Definitely shot better then the 300gr sst. I fired 4rounds at 200 and grouped them 4” a foot low. I can work with this for opening bear season saturday. I know I can probly find somethin better but this is good for now. I will b tryin pellets in the future thou. pretty funny. I was watchin a couple groups of guys with there centerfire rifles and there groups were 6”+ and they were happy it. Seen my targetand couldn’t believe it was a muzzleloader. Definitely a great gun to add to the collection! Thank all you guys for the help. Hopefully I’ll b posting pics of a bear Saturday
  17. Got on the range yesterday. Only had an hour to shot so started at the 100yrd and got 3shots in a 2” group about 2”below the bullseye. Moved over to 200yrd range and I was 18”low with a 5” group. I’m shooting sst 300gr bullet with 110grainblackhorn 209. I’m goin now to grab some sst 250gr bullets and doin some more shootin till its same hole accurate. Any suggestions of changes i should try and make? I was thinkin maybe keepin 110grBH209 and just shootin the 250grsst. Then maybe shootin 3shots with 100gr bh209. Really my main goal is to try n get it shooting a little flatter from 100-200yrd. Thats y i thought of droppin to 250gr sst. Any thoughts are much appreciated
  18. I have 2 link micro’s and a cell-link hooked to my old camrea. Got pics the first week then nothin for afew weeks then a pic of my buddy and nothin for another 3 weeks. There all way out in the bush in different countys. 1hr+walk to each. I was just thinkin maybe theres been no activity. Had them in the same trees last year and worked great. Looks like i gotta check em out this weekend
  19. That leads me to anotherquestion. When your done with ur hunt for the day do u shot off the load? Or open breech plug and push it out, or pull primer and leave it loaded? I hunted with flintlock last year so no choice u gotta fire em off. Just courious what u guys do.
  20. Definitely jealous of u fellas. My hunting season dont start till next Saturday here in NEPA with bear muzzleloader. I work as much as possible early archery so I can justify takin time off for bear muzzleloader and archery durrin the rut. Great pics!!!
  21. Thanks buddy. Yea i have no thoughts of pushin over the max loads. Just lookin at ballistics online. Tomarrow will tell another story with lead sled on bench. also i believe in “seasoning a barrel”. After each round tonight i cleaned the barrel and oiled it. Fired two primers to dry and loaded again. That also gave time for barrel to cool between shots. All my rifles i own are long range tack drivers. And if not i sell em. Just tryin to keep this accura in the collection. Absolutely love the gun. I’m a sucker for short “guide guns”. Lol
