  1. OK I did the break in and swapped the prop to the 9.25 x 11. It did not work out very well. 4500 rpm and 8.5 knots. I ordered the 9.25 x 9 and will try it out next week
  2. I’m looking into the rev limiters and the throttle position sensor. It’s a pain. Everything I try I have to drive the boat 20 miles to the lake to try things
  3. OK, So I mounted my 9.9 2021 Suzuki on my 16 ft Sylvan Pro Select. With the supplied 5 degree 4 blade prop. I could get 8.3 mph out of the engine. I installed the new ECM and Throttle plate to convert to a 20 HP motor. I also changed the prop to a 9.25 x 11. this is where the problems begin. Now the most I can get is 4400 RPM and a max speed of 7.7 MPH. Its not the prop. The engine just hits 4400 at 2/3 throttle and stops. if I trim the motor way up it still won't go over 4400 RPM. Any ideas
  4. Keep the 175 on the boat. It need the power. 90 HP will just not be enough

    10 hp motor

I’m glad I have twins on my saltwater boat. Last year I blew a lower unit 74 miles offshore. Took a long time but I made it back

    10 hp motor

When I spend a day trolling for striper done by me (NJ) I burn through about 25-30 gallons with my twin 175s. This 9.9/20 will be on my 16 ft Sylvan pro select. I would think I will be able to troll all day for about 2 gallons

    10 hp motor

Looks good, I have mine mounted with the digital gauge. Everything seems to work. I am just over 3 hours into the break in. I’m going to take it out on a local lake Saturday and try to get 3 more hours on it. I’m going to convert to the 20 hp when I hit 15 hours.

    10 hp motor

Yea the cables ran me $58 each for 16 footers

    10 hp motor

I have the elec start remote with power trim 20 inch shaft. I have the new restrictor and the 20 hp ecu. I won’t put that stuff on until the break in is done. I bought all the extra parts from Precision Marine in fl
  10. good luck with the stripers. My boat goes in the water for the season in 3 weeks. I am at the end of the Hudson in Raritan Bay and mostly troll for them. Come May I will anchor and use clams for bait. Yea, stripers are really dumb and easy to catch. Fun stuff

    10 hp motor

I would buy the Suzuki 9.9 HP outboard. it is a good price and for an added $400.00 you can convert it to a 20 HP by just changing a couple of parts. I just purchased on from Portaboat in CA. $2650.00 delivered. I am in break in now and then I will install the 20 hp ECU and flame arrester making it a true 20 HP outboard
  12. I just ordered all the parts from Precision Marine in FL. under $400 for the parts
  13. Mine came with the 4 blade 10 x 5
  14. I have received the motor and started everything to get it mounted. I have all the parts to convert to a 20 HP. I plan on doing a 20 hour break in before swapping the parts over. I'm hoping to get 20-24 mph with the upgraded engin and a 9.25 x 11 inch prop
  15. That’s good to hear about the boat prices. I’m considering selling my 25 Ranger this season. I was thinking $23k. Now maybe $28
  16. Well I’m committed to the Suzuki. They just called and told me the motor is in and will ship out to me in the morning. Can’t wait to get this thing mounted
  17. Yea, it seems like a good deal. I’m waiting for my motor. Some time in March I’m told. Can’t wait to see how it pushes my 16 ft Sylvan
  18. I will try the engine on my 16 footer before swapping parts to get 20 hp. However my 16 ft boat weights 890 lb boat only. Add all the crap we put in these things and 25 gallons of fuel and I think the 20 will perform better. As far as changing the stickers. Some of the rangers think they are detectives. They have checked serial numbers on the engine block. Currently I am running the boat with twin 1995 9.9 Evinrudes upgraded to 15 hp each. Too much time on my hands I guess.
  19. Thanks for the input. I just ordered the 2021 9.9 long shaft elec with power tilt. I will upgrade it to the 20 HP with the flame arrestor and ECU swap out. The local lakes down my way only allow 10 HP max. I'm hopeful I can get at least 20mph on my 16 ft Sylvan
  20. I purchased a Suzuki 9.9 from Porta-Boat last week. I don't believe I will see it until march sometime. Good price $2695.00 9.9 long shaft elec start power trim remote with controls. My plan is to upgrade it to a 20HP. local lake says 10 hp max. I'm hopeful i can get 20mph out of it on my 16 ft Sylvan. Currently I am running twin 1995 Evinrude 9.9s upgraded to 15HP each. My other boat is a Ranger 250C center with twin 175 Optis. Gonna get me a big shark this season.
  21. Most of my trips are Tuna and shark. Really anything that is out there at the time. It is not a trip for the timid. We are taking a 25 footer 60-80 miles offshore. The weather is everything. I ran out 4 times last season. Best trip 4 bluefin to around 60 pounds. Shark is always fun. Hard to get the keepers, but it is still lots of fun fighting a 100-200 pound shark. Normal trip is 2-3 sharks caught. Fun stuff. Lots of whales out there. Had two humpbacks breach 100 yards from the boat last year. It was like a Nat Geo program.
  22. Good day all, I just wanted to intro myself and give a little rundown on me. My name is Bryan and I live in NJ. I am an avid fisherman that fishes 3-5 time a week in NJ. I have never fished your lake or any others up that way. I have been mostly doing the saltwater thing off the coast of NJ and NY. My goal is to get up there this year and catch my first Salmon and possibly Walleye. For my saltwater fishing I have a 25 ft center console Ranger with twin 175 Optis. For the local lakes I have a 16 ft Sylvan with twin 15 hp evinrudes. Maybe we can trade on fishing trips. I can come up your way for big lake fishing and you can come down my way for stripers in the spring and Tuna and Shark in the summer. Anyway, good fishing and stay safe all. Bye the way.....Great Site
