  1. I never wear shorts and a t shirt on the boat. Its like a football player forgetting his pads and helmet. It’s just not worth it. Invest in some real fishing clothing— pants, long sleeve hoody.. There’s plenty of stuff out there that is breathable and comfortable. It has become my standard gear no matter what conditions. I watched my buddy a few days ago get eaten alive… he was desperate for chemicals that don’t work while I didn’t even get a single bite with nothing but the proper clothing… Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. What’s the minimum amount of backer you would accept for copper/WS long line? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. My prayers are with you my friend. I’m glad you are still able to find some joy now and then. It puts things in perspective when guys like me get spoiled… how soon we forget Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. They definitely make it much nicer to clear and check lines, but I could barely move that fish with the boat in motion and it was only 10lb. I was going to convert my HS reels to use for Lake O rigger meat setups for faster slack line pick up and having less line out to deal with the lower torque. But even that kind of scares me if a big King were to go on a run. To your point, maybe a better idea would be to just use for leadcore walleye setups since they don't fight... maybe that's what Chowder is doing
  5. Yeah, after my experience with a 10lb fish, I can't imagine fighting a king on a HS with 400 ft of line out! So just curious maybe chowder has had a different experience
  6. caught 12 steelhead yesterday and they destroyed my stingrays! when they get damaged I tend to pass them up when going out the next time because they don't looks as pretty as all the other spoons in the box!
  7. Love Stinger/Stingray spoons, they flat out catch fish... BUT the paint/tape usually gets damaged after just a fish or two... this doesn't happen with the Moonshines, really wish Stinger would fix this. How long will you guys continue to run a spoon with the paint/tape messed up? Does anyone have any techniques on how to prevent this from happening as much -- add a clear coat? thanks
  8. Nice report, you guys had some great action! Back problems are no fun -- hope you find relief soon. I had mine operated on 4 years ago and mostly pain free but it rears its ugly head now and then.
  9. @chowder do you use high speed reels on your long lines? I picked up a couple cold water 453 high speeds and experimented on lake erie with them. Caught a big sheephead and it was extremely hard to reel... so I kind of gave up on using them for Kings. Maybe the Daiwas are better but just curious what your thoughts are on high speed reels in general... thanks
  10. Well hey that makes me feel better! Wasn’t sure if a snap rather than a loop impacted the action of the fly at all. Both methods make the fly interchangeable on different rigs but I guess the advantage of the loop is that it’s free. I started putting snaps on mine because that’s what I knew how to do…
  11. You are first in so they are yours. PayPal friends and family: [email protected] I’ll try to ship today, just send along address Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Used only a few times... had a custom 1 7/8" aluminum rail clamp made. Comes with ~$50 in spare parts as well.
  13. New, never run, Reef Runner Lures... these lures are known to catch monster Walleye and can be used for staging salmon/steelhead, spring trout/salmon 18 Reef Runner 800 Deep Diver 4.75" 19 Reef Runner 600 Series, "Deep Little Ripper" 3.5" 2 Cordell "Wally Minnow" Plano boxes included as pictured... 39 Total Lures, huge savings off retail.
  14. Rather than tying a loop in my flies, I’ve been using a larger snap…. Is this okay?? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Different lake and different season, but some similar principles probably apply. This guy is a pro bass fisherman using bass techniques for Lakers. Ive done it in the fall in Lake Erie when they are in shallow spawning. once you find them, they are really easy to catch with vertical jigging… in the fall at least, never tried it in the summer. This time of year they are out deep, bellies in the mud. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. I’m guessing there’s no problem running glow during the day… it’s pretty dark down that deep. A bigger issue would be running UV when there’s not enough light to reflect. I caught two monster steelhead in Lake Erie this week on glow, mid afternoon, ~40ft. Before I put glow on it was a slow day… Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Nice haven’t seen the t41, will have to pick one up. You run it early morning or leave it out during the day? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. The Okuma White Diamond copper/leadcore rod has some has some nice big guides - much bigger than the TDR copper rod
  19. @J.D. do you mean ugly stik bigwater trolling rods? Don't see a tiger trolling version
  20. Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Any manufactures have larger eyelets to allow barrel swivel, crimp, shrink tubing to pass through easier? I Used the torpedo terminator kit on my weighted steel setup and it’s just a little too big for my TDR rods. I Could get it though but it was tough. Might lose in the future if it gets stuck. Did I crimp too much and make it too wide maybe? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
