There are always a few big kings to be caught look at the 48in 37pounder caught of wilson this year. Alot of water to find 1 big king and then have him grab your offering.lol Last year I spoke to a charter captain on the little salmon river. I asked him why no big kings of yesteryear his answer was the Charter captains meet with the DEC and were asked if they wanted more fish or bigger fish and all said more fish. I get that thats how they make a living .happy clients repeat customers its numbers not size.

Maybe if our DEC would tag some salmon like they did lake trout they would have a better idea of what ages are going up river. The lake trout will be the new big fish of the lake

I'v always been told the salmon spawn after 4yrs and die.So if a 2 or 3yr old fish go up river do they die also or go back to the lake. you would think the eggs in younger salmon aren't matured enough to hatch they still need that extra time. If any large numbers of young fish spawn and die you would think you would have a poor catch rate the following years

I spoke to a charter captain out of the little salmon river a couple of weeks ago why aren't we catching the big kings 35 plus pounds any more. He told me the charter captains meant with the DEC on this matter and was asked if they wanted more fish or bigger fish. He said all replied more which I get.Its how they make a living. they want clients to catch there limit of salmon. They want them to rebook. Me personally i fish for enjoyment I would rathger catch 1big king of yester year than 5 15lbers. lets see what size fish wins sonnys big fish this weekend. good luck to all who entered.
