  1. Ed that second pic looks like underdog! It never hurts to take a super hero with you
  2. Got to see 1dogshy on the water this weeekend. I have been wondering what her secret has been for putting pig lakers in the boat all summer long. Most the time she fishes alone or does she. If you look on the bow of her boat you will see her secret weapon, a great looking weimaraner that has been trained to follow the sent of big lake trout farts. I figure lake trout like us fart more as they get older . That well trained dog has been putting her on big fish all season. I am wondering if she would be able to train my german shorthair to do the same Wes
  3. Hal, We should be out this weekend. I'm not sure which day. Most likely Sun. I need to get some rv antifreeze in my bilge lines this week. Clear days = cold nights. Wes
  4. Don't tell Kade I spelled tale wrong
  5. Nice to meet you guys as well, It was fun to trade fishing stories with Kaden. He will remember those days fishing for the rest of his life. I'm sure many more fishing tails in the future. Wes
  6. 1dogshy, 81 north bound closed between Chenango bridge and Castle creek. Detoured on rt 11. I drove home up Rt 26 after work today. Devastation every place you looked. People up in the hills got flooded as well as the people that lived by the rivers. Very sad. Drove up to Barney's tonight to pay. The lake has alot of crap in it at the south end. Barney said they didn't get that much rain compaired to south of Ithaca. Wes
  7. 1 lane open due to culvert washed out by Castle creek. Wes
  8. We do them on the grill. Lemon garlic marinade. I do not understand why they get such a bad rap. They are great. We also make chowder that is real good. Under 6lbs work good. I might be more inclined to come over in the winter if you get enough ice over deep water to fish for lakers. We did that on Owasco a few years ago and that was fun. 165 ' deep. It takes about 5 minutes to get your line down. Tough to drive past Cayuga if get my drift
  9. We saw you going up 81 this morning. Nice looking rig. Give me a call sometime. I have an idea for your rod holder problem. Wes
  10. Sounds like spawning grounds could be a big problem. I'm not sure how many of each species are stocked but if you say lakers are eating all the silver fish you don't think they are eating fry lakers as well. As far as weed beds that helps warm water fish like pike, bass, perch? Do think any of these fish could eat fry. Man brought invasives, stocked non native fish, destoyed streams and spawning area's. Inbalance in ecosystems are complex ,sometimes natural most of the time caused by man. I'm just saying don't blame or hate the lake trout. They was here first. Sounds like I need to make the trip over. Micro light jigging for lots of 2lb fish sounds fun to me!
  11. Sorry but my vote is for zebra mussel. I was fishing before Zebra mussels, Lakes were murky, fertile, full of life, Zebra mussels show up and the smelt are all but gone , rainbows take a huge dump in all the finger lakes and they are clear as gin. Those little buggers filter all the food for the lower food chain. Everybody blames different things for the declines but when you look at the time table when things went bad in all the finger lakes it was when the population of zebra mussels were at their peak. You could kill every lake trout in the lake and if you have no baitfish you are not going to grow big trout period. Red cross derby winner lake trout was 30 some years old at 16.5 pounds. To get to this size it might have been caught and released several times. I eat fish but also believe in catch and release. A 10 lb released fish is not going to turn into a 3 lb fish but a released 10 lber might some day be a 16 lber. If the lake is over run with lakers you should be enjoying catching hundrads a day. Invasive species have a huge impact and change everything. Do not blame the lake trout that has been in these lakes since the last ice age. I also note that many people eat no lake trout but eat every legal salmon, brown, rainbow they catch. I also hate to see the decline of silver fish in the lake thats why I eat lakers and release the fish that are in trouble like the rainbows. I'm not saying that others have to do the same but that is how I feel. 4lb lakers taste great! Wes
  12. Nice job! Looks like another trip is in order How did that laker fight? I have alot of Lake "O" people say they are like pulling in a boot but I love the fight they give. You just cann't compare a 26Lb salmon to say a 5lb laker. Cayuga has been giving up some big fish this year! Wes
  13. probe speed. Gps speed runs about .4mph faster than the probe on our boat. I'm not sure what causes this I think elevation above sea level might affect it. If you troll and make a turn and get a hit note which side you got the hit on. Inside is going slower outside is running faster. Every day it can change. I talked with one guy that had never caught a laker on a spin doctor. I asked how fast he was trolling. He was fishing sutton spoons at 1.8 mph I told him to bump it upp to 2.2. The next day he told me he got 6 lakers on the spin doctors. If we are marking fish and not catching fish we will change lure colors and speeds untill we are. Wes
  14. Nice! I like to leave my tackle on the bottom so that I can do my part to help the economy Did we show you how to the wire knot?
  15. Sean is one of those guys I was talking about Wind can move the water around alot. Down temp probe is major tool but if you fish the bait pods you see on your depth finder or sometimes you can mark the thermocline on depth finder and fish those depths you will do O.K.. I remember one day last fall when I thought my temp probe was broke. We kept dropping the rigger and got down to 140' and it read 70 deg. The day before we had 55 deg at 70 ' Things can change fast. We have seen currents over 2mph. You think of a lake as being a still body of water but it is always moveing. Wes
  16. I like how he is going to refund for saltwater license sales. I guess the salt water guys don't need to help pay for law enforcment, hatcheries, biologist. research. Much better the upstate guys foot the whole bill.
  17. I should have added it depends on what you are running. Old school Sutton spoons, cowbells with peanuts 1.5 to 1.8, Stinger spoons run faster. Haven't had the guts to see what the top end is but we caught fish at almost 3mph. Stick baits put them along side and adjust speed up till they have a nice wobble. Spindoctors and flys 2.2 to 2.4. When fleas are bad run 30lb mono on main line for riggers or flea flicker swivel then leader. If you run flashers or spin doctor use heavy line to spin doctor 20 lb min. 30 is better and keep leads short to the rigger. Less chance of your line twisting. You have to pick lures that will run at the same speed. Our normal program is stinger spoons and spin doctors at 2.2 you will cach fish. I think the 30 lb leader was killing the action of your spoons. The finger lakes are blessed with many great charter captains. A trip with one of them could teach you what could take years on your own. Wes
  18. We run 8lb fluro in spring ,12lb when we start fishing for lakers
  19. Dry gas will not save gas that has seperated. Your 10% ethanol is grabbing water from the air just like the old dry gas did with non ethanol fuel. Once concentration off water is heavy enough to seperate you are done. Unless you add 10% of the amount of fuel with dry gas.
  20. Great job! It's great to fish with family. That is how we picked the name of our boat. Did you have any close calls running after dark with the bouys they had set up? I'm going to send a note to the sherrifs department asking why they had bouys out in the middle of the lake with no lights on them. We ran right through them. That could have been bad. Wes
  21. I think Nick is afraid he would have to move his boat east
