  1. Depends what theory you subscribe to. Some people will switch over to all one color if a spoon gets hit. (and sometimes it works), Others, look as the combination as being part of a dynamic, where the orange spoon combined with the green trigger the reponse from the fish. Personally, if a set up works, I may try to alter it but if I don't get results quickly, I go back to what works. 2 mantras of fishing Never leave fish to find fish If its working don't change it.
  2. For my fixed sliders, I just use a rubber band. Its cheap and provides some resistance as it slides down.
  3. Make sure you check the report at "attheoak.com" for up to date info
  4. Bill, I am not sure what size the shot was, about 1/8" in dia. I was using 2 of them, just enough to get the spoon to sink a few feet. I placed them about 4' in from of the spoon. and ran the spoon 150 off the big boards. I don't have leadcore or copper rods (yet..) so this about the best I can do for surface action in the spring.
  5. What did you expect, for them to donate them to you and send back your money? Especially after you go online and slam them? It sounds like you are getting a fair shake. And if you approach them witha softer approach, I wouldn't doubt that they may send you a few spoons to offset your shipping. What I have ordered from them has been flawless.
  6. Hard to say without more info. FOr the last month my divers have been over the top for production. I use 1000' wire with 100' of 30#mono to adjust the slider. I generally set them on 5 or so, to get them away from the boat and the rest is up to the fish.
  7. Ran out early this morning, set up at 180 FOW, 2 miles west. Ran 2 orange stingers on the planer board with splitshots and immediately hooked 2 cohos. Riggers with green flasher/ mirage fly were responsible for 8 fish including a 18 pound king. A few other fish on slider dipsies and fixed dipsies. All in all, it was a good day. We had 2 kids with us and they had a great first experience with the cohos. caught most of our fish within one mile of our set up.
  8. Maybe a little of both! Either way, i am sure it was a great day for both of you.
  9. Thanks, I have been doing that without knowing the name!
  10. I have been able to figure out most of the jargon associated with trolling, but one eludes me. What does it mean when a spoon is mupped? thx
  11. I figured, just couldn't let it go. I have been doing better west of you. The summerset area has been a gem
  12. My Crew (Tim Schrantz and Dick Kern) and I were fishing out of the oak. We had decided to fish west, because I had success that way earlier in the week. After an exciting day on Friday, we decided to make the 20 mile run to the area off the powerplant at Summerset. Waves were 2-3 and the water full of debries. We arrived at our number and after setting 4 rods had a release on a leadcore off the planner board. The spoon was a orange and green stinger. The fish ended up being a 22 pound king. It was only 7AM! Because of the time and conditions we opted to fish for a while before running in, that may have been a mistake. We fished until about 11, caught a total of 9 fish, then made a 90 minute trek back to the Oak. The fish weighed in at 22 even, if you look at the board a few hundreths would have moved us up considerably. In hindsight we probably should have run to Olcott (down hill) for a quick weigh in. But we managed to stay on the board! It was a great week for the derby, and all that fished with me had a great time. PS the simrad auto-pilot is priceless!
  13. After a long week of fishing we managed to land a 22 pound king on lead core. Over all we boated about 80 fish in 7 days of fishing, had about 6 kings over 12 pounds, lost a nice steelhead at the boat, and found that the bar isn't the only place with fish! We fished alonenear summerset most of the week and had a great time!
  14. yecks coyote, glow frog, orange crush
  15. Can't speak for Sodus in particuliar, but the "in close" action is slowing quickly. Unless you find a patch of colored water, you may be better off start at 30-40 fow and working out to 80-120. I have been fishing west of the oak and we are finding plenty of fish, just haven't encountered any of size yet. Sliding dipseys have been hot, as have flasher/fly combos.
  16. Leaders the length of the rod, no dipsey you are in shallow water and the stick will dive a few feet on its own. Last week we had a flasher fly combo on a rigger and during a fight with another rod we raised the rigger to the surface. the fly was creating a wake and we caught our nicest brown of the day. You'll do fine!
  17. I have never fished Rochester, but right now the shoreline seems to be pretty hot along the entire lake. Read all the other posts over the past 3 weeks and you will see the trend; colored water, 5-20 fow, stick baits, riggers just below the surface. speed about 2-2.5 mph, warmer water is better. Past that you will need to just get out there and give it a shot. Another site that has great info just west of you is attheoak.com . read the fishing report and scroll down to the link for total chaos, they hae some great info there on spring fishing. Good Luck
  18. Your right, but I figure a little pre-fght cockyness is a good thing. I just hope some of the 30 - 150 fow fishing turns on.
  19. Just wanted to wish everyone fishing the LOC the best of luck at 2nd place. We will be fishing out of the Oak, if you are in the area the name of the Boat is "Reel Mayhem"
  20. 34 degrees in buffalo, not quite 60...
  21. 60 degrees by monday? Maybe at the extreme western end, in a shallow puddle near the lake! There is a lot of ice still coming off the lake, its coming but will still take a while.
  22. Windburn, I think handlining would work on some smaller fish, but I think if I were that determined to use long setbacks from my diver I would use slide divers first. just can't imagine handling a 30 pound king!
  23. Ray, That hurts... I manage forests for timber, Far from tree huggin...
