  1. All nice pictures, but I thought there was a dedicated page for that. Anyone have any information? Boats are out there catching fish, maybe not today though...
  2. Had a report through a friend that they were catching browns on rapalas in the shallows, temp 43. Then moved off shore abit and got into some decent Lakers 10 - 13 lbs. Not bad for january! I fish out of the oak, I wonder what the warm waters will do for the salmon migration oh... about the second week of May? Might not be a need to trailer to the Bar!
  3. I don't disagree with Evil-I's position. While believing whole heartedly in conservation and treating everything humanely (sp), even when it involves killing the animal, the fact is that there are a whole lot of people out there that don't hunt, trap or fish and don't see why we need to. Groups like Pita feed off ignorance and emotion. They are also able to capture quotes made by non-thinking sportsman that although not intended, sound harsh and cruel. This is where we need to wise up! I grew up as a fur trapper, and trust me, fishermen haven't felt the heat the way trappers have. Sad part is, alot of gun and fishing groups turned their backs while we took a beating, well now its coming around to fishing. Thats why I say, we as sportsman have to stick together, or they will pick us apart. One scientific point made in the article that is hard to argue with is the introducing of exotics to lakes through escaped bait. There is some truth to that.
  4. They have also all but banned hunting in many European countries, just another reason for all sportsman (hunters, trappers, AND Fishermen) to stick tight. As for some "things" being destined for bait... They may be prey, but whether they were created to be hooked is debatable.
  5. Rash... www.loc.org all the info is there
  6. I may not be envisioning this correct, I usually run a cheater on a rigger where you have a semi verticle line witha bow in it. On a wire dipsey teh line is far from verticle and has no bow to speak of. I question whether you would have the clearance needed for the spoon to run properly, of if it would just wrap around the wire line. Good luck with it, look forward to hearing how you made out!
  7. Reeljerk, guess time will tell on your present. Will have to wait until September to find out if it was a $20,000 + gift or a $75 lump of coal! But I am sure you will have fun with it either way! I got my Simrad AP14, just have to work up the courage to install it!
  8. I did, i was there for the Con club event. I actually was in the slip next to Hooter, I think it was 'supps' old slip. We actually did well for the 1st 2 days of that tournament, then I made a fatal flaw. I listened to a guest on the boat and we decided to fish Saturday night. Had a great time though and will do it again this year. It was my first season with my own boat and I am hooked!
  9. Times Two, Small world! I plan on hitting the Southtowns and Con Club events at a minimum. But will call the Oak home for the bulk of the season. When i do come into town to fish, i will let you know or ask around for you. Been a long time, be nice to say hello. I generally fish with hooter (a guy can't always pick his friends), and the rest of his crowd.
  10. John, I have a uniden oceans and have pretty good luck with it. On a side note, we may have crossed paths in the past. I grew up in Dunkirk and I think I graduated with your brother in '81. And if you are slipping at Wiley's this season, I am sure we will cross paths. Happy Holidays
  11. http://www.sailingbreezes.com/Sailing_B ... /zones.htm interesting link, only 3 zones were proposed for Lake Ontario.... This is what I mean when I say it was given too much press originally. Lots of miss information by liberal news organizations. Longline, I apologize if my last post came across as a personal attack, wasn't meant that way.
  12. erby, you are correct sir. The hot spoon last summer was the yeck Coyote and Sharon at Narby's went through a lot of them. Fuzzybear, which I believe is a dreamweaver spoon has a close pattern also, I believe that is actually the pic shown earlier.
  13. Just out of curiousity I checked your math. 2,080,000/8 = 260,000 rds 3000 rds 5 times a year @ 8 grams/rd= 120,000 grams or about 520 pounds of metal I would dare say the black hole in the salmon river has that in lead from back in the day! As for security during the shoot, patrol boats or helicopters could keep the area clear. I am not trying to argue with you personally, but I think the good greatly out weighs the bad. A coastguardsman stationed on the bar this year could be reassigned to a more hazardous station with very little notice or time to re-train.
  14. I will be doing the same install, maybe we can starta support group!
  15. I wouldn't, not that garmin doesn't make a good product, but because if one compoment goes down, you will have nothing for the duration of shipping it out for repair. I use the Lowrance global mapper 7600 for gps and auto-pilot and a smaller unit for sonar. If one went out the other could cover the missing function. Another plus is that split screens can be hard to read.
  16. The top pic of LongLine is very close to my yeck Coyote, it produced very well!
  17. As I said earlier, the story was really blown out of proportion when it first came out. Given the assets of the coast guard a "zone" could be shut down for a day or two very safely and with minimal impact on charters and recs. I heard one arguement that the lead would contaminate the lake, yet we all still use lead, hell, I lost a ball last summer. The Lake has withstood insults much worse than some lead and spent brass. Most of the posts so far imply the same sentiment, The world has changed folks, like it or not, there will be times when we need to put security before comfort. The Coast Guard will always be the object of jokes and ridicule, but should we ever find ourselves in trouble we all hope they do their job and respond in time. fwiw
  18. Personally, I think that topic was sensationalized way beyond its due. I feel in reality, the risk was neglible, both to boaters as well as wildlife. If they decided not to do it, great, I guess that eliminates all chances of a problem.
  19. That does clear things up, I had a similiar system mounted over-head witha diagram of the boat and all possible rods (including planers) and I would just fill in the blanks. I do like the built in erasers, we constantly lost ours.
  20. Syracuse boat show 2/14 -18 NYC 12/30 -1/7 IIf you have never been and are looking for a boat its incredible! I worked it for 3 years and still haven't seen it all.
  21. Have you considered the patches or bracelets for her? The pills will knock her out. I get sick on somedays too and found the bracelets will extend my day by alot.
  22. Im not a fisheries biologist, just a dirt forester, but it could be that while a large majority of salmon make it back to their original waters, a few may try someplace new, for whatever reason....
