I have never seen the roamers, but I use a blacks above the sub-troll, someplace on here Longline has a couple pics that show how to do it, it works very well. He uses the straw from WD40 as a sleeve to protect the cable.

Narby's is worth the trip, She has what works! While you are there, Captains COve is also supposed to be good, although I have never been there.

I don't know who Rick is, but since I mentioned 9's and 10's I will chime in. I keep them about a foot apart, just enough so the poles don't interfer with each other. I also keep both sets horizontal.

I second Billy's comment, we also run different length rods (9's and 10's) with the longer rod to the outside dipsey (also further forward)

I use the cannon kits with no trouble. Just make sure everything is cinched down tight.

We took my friends nephew out a couple weeks back. He is a paraplegic (sp). I fish out of the oak, I brought the boat to the town service dock and he came along side, we helped him to sit on the rail, moved the chair on board and he swiveled his legs on the boat, we then helped him back into the chair. Had to move a few rod holders, but it went smooth. I thought we would have to ratchet strap the chair for the run out, but he just locked the wheels, no problem. I was a little nervous leading up to that trip, but would gladly do it for him or someone else again.

I have never tried dipsey's off the riggers, but run them of my boards regularly.

My wire rods with slide divers have been top producers this year. Its a great set-up.

traveling man is right, for lead core a big fat reel is all thats needed. you all ready have a gauge of how far out you are by counting colors. If you go past the knot, you can get a rough idea by counting "passes" of the line guide on the reel.

I believe my wire rods are 9 and 10', and I use twill tips mainly cuz thats the way I was taught.

If you search thru the past posts you will find tons of wire info. But to answer your questions, yes, at the end of the wire you tie a high quality snap swivel using the wire knot (its on here somewhere) or crimps. I was a fan of crimps until I tried the knot, its simple and it works. The snubber follows the dipsey, then comes the leader. The big thing to remember is that wire has no stretch, without a snubber, if you pull that rod 4 feet, your 30lb king just moved 4 feet. For a leader I have been running seaguer 20#, but just moved up to 30# berkley biggame. I normally use 5 - 8' of leader, less if I am running a flasher/fly. good luck

I don't think the spool really matters since the spool turns as the line goes out, there should be no friction on the spool itself.

I ahve been having difficulty this year trying to run 4 riggers. My boat has an 8 1/2' beam, I run a rigger at each end. In addition I have one on each rail pointing 90 degrees to the boat. I run cannons and I think they have a 4 or 5' boom. My problem is down rigger lines crossing. Is this a fixable problem, or do I need to find a way to extend the side riggers to say 8'? I have tried the "directional" balls with little luck running a blacks release above them (I may try attaching to the ball, like a rudder, to help it run true ) and I have tried pancake weights with a near disaster (lowered the weight and it caught water , went sideways into the prop, luckily all I lost was the weight). I am open to suggestions. thanks!

I am a big fan of wire dipsey's, For me, the fact that you get almost no stretch is a big plus. I have had a diver out 300' witha tight release setting and had no trouble when the strike came. The same set up with #30 mono, may not have fired. I am not familiar with your reel, but the sealine 47 will hold 1000' comfortably. As for a rod, any dipsey rod will do, but you may want to proactively change the tip to a twill tip (a spring tht increases the radius at the tip), or wait until you wear out the factory tip. I think you wll enjoy the setup.

Thanks for the kind words, and I love that pic! I just can't believe that guy was pushing 10 knots and wasn't even on deck. We did recover the board, just have to do some repairs. After some beer and some sleep I will be back to normal.

The fishing was pretty good, had an opportunity to take out some friends including a paraplegic teenager. We had fun, caught fish. So what is wrong? Oh yeah, A F'n sail boat ran up our butt and ripped my planer board off. We yelled and screamed, and some fat old lady waved back to us, the captain was below deck, NO ONE was driving the damn thing until after they heard my board getting keel hauled. I used to carry golf balls for just such an emergency! I don't mind yielding to these boats, but the driver should be at the wheel. There had to be 25 boats out there today, guess i am lucky he didn't run us down.
