Yeah Gambler, your pics of them sitting on a pond where 20 E-Birders have already documented them is going to push this through the finish line, good job. The distribution is well documented, what their roosts degrade into, well documented, their appetites, well documented. Extrapolate trends from birders who document themselves very well and the job is already well done. The public and especially affected landowners have already cried out for help with documentation.

E-bird has over 9.6 million observations paired with 227600 photos from avid birders. I'd have to imagine Cornell, who runs E-bird, could glean enough information from that dataset to appease someone in the local government of Huron. I don't use E-bird, but I know some avid birders and I am pretty sure all their lists are geo-located one way or another. Waiting for Joe Smo's pictures of cormorants roosting in his willow tree to come in isn't my idea of proactive.

Asking us to do surveys at this point feels like joke. I honestly believe ya'll are sitting around a table laughing while coming up with this idea to have the public report sitings. Like an internet troll who can't wait to hear the confused and frustrated response.

Trust to me is reserved for neighbors, family and friends-the folks who can earn it. Forgiveness the same. The scientific community, political apparatus, corporate power structures demand to be trusted, but they’re actually asking for your faith. The infinite resource printed out of thin air, backed by nothing but violence melds these institutions into a machine. There’s a control group, the Amish, who mostly didn’t accept stimmy check bribes, who don’t reference NOAA or much of anything else or place their faith in man. They are one of, if not the only subset of the white population actually growing their numbers. What other metric actually means more than that? I don’t know how any Trump supporter, Newsom supporter, or institution believer has enough forgiveness in their heart to still be playing the red v blue stuff or have any sort of trust left in any faceless man-made structure at this point.

Ive always felt like trolling was akin to trapping and making your set. Its the technical aspect that makes it fun for me. To keep things fun I'll tell a buddy to run his side of the boat or make sure the kids are picking the spoons etc. I probably get more pleasure landing a walleye or steelhead on an outside board effectively without tangles than getting the bite itself if that makes sense. Same concenpt for a tipup 'set' v being in the shanty jigging. Theres a reason more people hunt than trap and if the fishery keeps supporting good results for King jiggers I expect more people to give it a try because its a thrill-but it'll never satisfy those guys that want to perfect their set.
