Do you hear that? Yeah me neither. Thats what the woods sounds like as the rut activity grinds to a halt. Time to switch tactics. Since the third day of gun season i have seen very little daytime movement. 95% of all activity has been within 10 min of legal sunset and sunrise. Does are pounding fields in the pm hours and i think i need to switch all of my attention to field edges in the pm. As for the am hours, i will continue to sit on bedding areas in hopes of catching a cruising buck even though I have had very little activity in the am since the opener. Its just that time of year i guess.

What a difference a week can make... Lots and lots of stand visits from does and fawns but bucks almost seem to of all disappeared. I've have only seen 3 racks since the season opener. It's amazing how a bit of pressure along with the lockdown change the dynamic of the woods. If you have a doe in heat send by my tree and liven up these woods a bit, thanks. Ive been on the sidelines for a few days and havent been in the woods since monday (which was a stellar day). Hoping this gusty wind will quit for me but it doesnt look like there is any relief from it until this arctic front finally leaves us on saturday. My house this week it has been 25-30 mph sustained winds with 35-40 mph gusts everyday make for less then ideal deer hunting conditions. I have been doing some field scouting at dusk this week at a few stand locations and havent seen a deer yet. Hopefully once the wind dies down then hopefully the deer and I will be more motivated. According to the forecast friday afternoon conditions seem better, so hopefully i can get back out there.
