  1. I hear ya. After not much sleep I'm going outside to spend an hour to remove the snow drifts back to the barn with my tractor so that when the time is right the boat will be ready to go. I think I need a few more diver set-ups also. - Mick
  2. Did anyone else see that fishing was on the front page of Saturday's Democrat and cronicle? The story was pretty cool . It was about a young man following his dream of BASS fishing the major tournaments , but just seeing something fishing related on the front page of the news this morning made me smile a little. -Mick
  3. Since I'm the chef at the North and Jax likes to cook and Fishinman is THE Chef at a great restaurant in Rochester, a spot where we could all share recipes would be cool. I would be willing to share many great ways to cook our beloved fish. - Mick
  4. From what I've learned in my years out in the lake is that "usually the undercurrent runs west to east." We had 30-40 degree water at the peirheads on labor day weekend last year because of an upwelling. All of the salmon were either in the creek, on the bottom, or still not staging. Weather plays a big factor in how fishing goes every day. All we can do is stay up to date on what the weather people say is going to happen and play off of that.
  5. It is probably better if you have any concerns about the warnings to remove the scales/skin. I have grilled them with the skin on and off but I always usually grill or broil/bake in a foil packet anyway for easier cleanup. With the skin off you could cook directly on the grill, you just have to either rub olive oil on the grates or the fish so it won't stick. In my opinion the health benefits of salmon far outway the concerns, but I don't eat it every day either. I wouldn't take the time to scale the fish though. Well time to go to the freezer and pull out some more fillets. - Mick
  6. Looks like I better get on the phone. Thank's Mick
  7. Did anyone else pre register and not receive your cards, etc in the mail yet? I pre registered back in December and still nothing. Just wondered if I should call to make sure. I received the card last year in a little over a week. Thank's Mick
  8. This didn't happen on the boat , but on the way to it. Back about 14 0r so years ago I worked as a mate on a charter as a high school summer job. One morning in the middle of the summer after countless straight days working I woke up late one morning and missed my ride. Since I lived right across the creek and only about a mile away from the marina I figured I'd just get going and run up to the parkway and over the bridge. Well it was still dark out and on my way down from the parkway and through the tall grass I looked down and seen a pair of glowing eyes and heard the animal squeal and a hiss as I accidentaly stepped on it.   As that scared the you know what out of me and made me run even faster I began to notice a peculiar smell that didn't seem to get any less strong no matter how fast I ran or further I got away from the Parkway. I HAD BEEN SPRAYED BY A SKUNK When I got to the boat the captain made me throw my clothes away and put on a full rainsuit as I didn't have any other clothing around. Of course it had to be one of the hottest days of the year but our clients had one of the best charters and everyone including most of the marina when we got back to the dock had one heck of a laugh that day. Every once in a while someone says to me remember when and all I can do is laugh. I guess sometimes it's better to stay on the beaten path and not take the shortcut through the long grass. Mick
  9. I'm a chef at the Black North Inn. I also have a small painting business. The resteraunt takes up most of my time. Mick
  10. The collection is just starting to grow. I've had the same spinning rod and reel setup since I was 12. That one I reeled up out of the Oak while fishing after school and I've used it as my primary rod since. (I figured if there's anything such as a lucky rod that one has to be it). I also still have my first rod.The reel burned out long ago. 7 trolling rods (just getting started) 3 spinning rigs 1 ice setup 2 fly rods (they were my Grandfathers and are only for sentimental reasons one day they will be my Son's.) 5 or 6 spinning/spincast rigs. (the Wife and kid's)
  11. Sorry about the last post Maniac. I had a few too many Canadian soda pops when I wrote it. The flies look good though.
  12. (We all came up from MONTROSE on the Lake Geneva shoreline. Frank Zappa and the Mothers (At least name one of the patterns Smoke on the water)Good looking flies there. I also enjoy building / painting my own baits. Sorry about the Rock n Roll reference. It's from DEEP PURPLE. Good looking Flies though. Mick
  13. You must have taken a lot of time to come up with an answer like that. For a single spoon being trolled( swimming) and not around any other baitfish I think the natural look (darker at the top than bottom) would be more effective. When trolling through a pod of bait I don't think it would matter as much since think about a salmon or trout crashing into a school of bait. There would be baitfish still swimming upright as normal but, there would probably also be injured or stunned fish that would be erraticly swimming all over the place. Those are the baitfish which would be easier to eat. Just my thoughts. Mick
  14. Congrats Billy V. I know how happy I was getting my first boat last year, and can't wait until I can get my next. Good luck with the new one and I too am sorry I couldn't get your old one.
  15. Thanks for the tip Ray. When I get a design made up I'll try to figure out how to post a pick. Thank's for all the ideas again everyone.
  16. How about TROLLING STONES and I could have the Stone's lips with a mag spoon hanging out of it. The stones are one of my favorite bands (Mick)
  17. Man now I'm totally unsure again. I don't think my wife would approve of Milf but I think it's funny. Rock On -Mick.
  18. I'm the big 30 this year.
  19. I helped put the pens in last year and there was an impressive turnout of people to help. All over the south shore of the lake the pen rearing has been a great success in my opinion. After all the great sport fishing lake O has to offer it does gives back to many people and businesses all over New York. I don't know if I can swing a monetary contribution right now but I can definately lend some time and labor since I live so close. See you all there. Mick
  20. I like some of your ideas Longline. I think it's now gonna be Rock em. This won't be my boat forever and I think it needs a name so that's it. When your at the Oak and you see a small blue crestliner that will be me. Thank's for the input guys. Mick
  21. Thank's guys.Yesterday I had some major plumbing issues in the bathroom so I couldn't get back to the computer . Almost fixed. Anyway the boat is only a 16+1/2 foot fiberglass crestliner. It's still in good shape for being a 75. It will mostly be used for trolling as long as the water isn't too rough. Thank's for the ideas. Back to work. Mick
  22. I still haven't come up with a good boat name. I liked rock and Troll, but I see that's already taken. How about A Rockin Troll or is it to close. What do you guys think? thank's Mick
  23. Sorry your right I'll put it in the Old Boat section
  24. I still don't have a name for my boat. My idea was Rock and Troll but I see that's already taken. Maybee " A Rockin Troll ". What do you guys think?
  25. Nice ski!!! That makes the only one I've ever caught up there (in the 30 some inch range) look like bait. Of course it was released.
