  1. I think I have seen this discussed by Billy V but I can't find it. When putting coated cable on Cannon Mag 10 with auto stop, do you need to remove coating on cable for several feet as it wraps initially over the spool? I have melted the coating off before when rigging probe but that was just six or so inches. How much do I need to take off before spooling coated cable, and does it need to touch something on the spool beside the the spool??
  2. Thank you all for so many responses I sent him a link to the discussion and he is trying to figure it out, I'll keep you posted.
  3. Hi, my brother has a 87 19' bayliner capri with a 4 cyl volvo penta, he is planning on visiting this weekend and trailering his boat to Canandaigua. Problem is no spark, the engine turns over fine, but no spark at plugs, or cap or rotor, he also replaced the coil, still no spark, he said wires look brand new, any advice?? He is mechanically inclined but is stumped, what is he missing. This is the first time he has tried to run the engine this year, ran good last year before winterization.
  4. it sure is Rick and it works great, can't wait to try it on a church board since I don't have big boards yet.
  5. Here's a couple shots of us fishing the last couple weekends.
  6. I had fireplug aboard Sunday morning and we did get a nice 8lb lake trout off the copper rig. I am still getting used to the copper but I think it was out 300'. Then a wire dipsy fired with another good one but weeds plagued us and slid down the wire to the dipsy and lost tension to the fish. There was plenty of tension to the dipsy though the weed blob was as big as a haybale. We had fun though. Monday my wife and I and the dogs went out for a swim but after swimming I let out 2 wires and had a nice rainbow take the 8" protroll echip white crush glow with a glow squid out 165' on a 3 setting in the late afternoon Angus watching the rods bend, maybe distracted by a gull actually...
  7. Many of the trollers on Lake O. use 45 # copper spooled up with power pro backer and 45 # copper wire, and 50' Ande 30 # flourocarbon leader. I just picked up the one below in the link from A Tom Mik. http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/reels.htm The line is marked every 100' with a small piece of shrink tube, you may call them and have them mark it every 50' if you wish. I ordered mine on last Thursday online and it was at my door on Saturday, ran it with a spin dr Sunday and it was the first rig that fired. The rod does not have a roller tip, I bought the rod that A tom Mik sells for the copper rigs very nice action. Remember when letting out the copper to thumb the line in free spool and let it out nice and easy cuz if you bird nest the copper line you will be a very unhappy fisherman. I believe Tim Bromund aka Fishstyx said conventional wisdom is that for every 100' of copper out you achieve about 22' in depth at 2.5 to 2.8 mph down speed (don't quote me on that). Others "pulling copper" use the hand lining method on the FLX. I have heard it described but have yet to see it first hand. I know a guy who does it exclusively with Pflueger spoons that are quite heavy I am told and he does catch big lake trout off the bottom.
  8. How good of a buddy is he? Maybe he will let you launch in his yard? Otherwise you are either bound for the south end launch which is free to drop in or the North end and you have to pay $6.00. The topo map is on the dec website I don't have link in my bookmarks but you should be able to find it.
  9. speed change or try tournament tie, leader length too, can make a difference I have a 5 y/o Horse Fly packer that still has its days, old squids too that still work
  10. Hey there I can't seem to find my camera so I will at least give the report and post pics later, late start around 7:00 am Sunday but had both dogs and my lovely first mate on board. We had our lines set out of the south end near the white rock trolling north. Two riggers, wire dipsy, and the new copper rig were out. The copper was the first to fire down the chute with mtn dew spin dr and hammer fly with lake trout (good eater size). Then the shallow rigger fired with Pro troll echip 8" flasher white crush glow and glow squid with a nice5 lb rainbow that the first mate reeled in and she did great job nice acrobatic show by the fish too. Wire dipsy was the next rod to go with green crush glow spin dr and A Tom Mik green hammer fly with echip which yielded a nice 5 lb brown this wire was out 111' on a 3 setting. I actually let it creep out and tightened the drag and forgot to let it out further. Another report last week spoke of rainbows and browns so riggers were down 30' and 40' nice temp picture in there, below 65' it was 42 degrees.
  11. hey maybe you could put a piece of Lexan (plexiglass) in there to get back out on the water until you find a suitable supplier for your glass, just a thought
  12. Here's couple pics to share how the new boat looks. I will take some this weekend of her rigged to fish.
  13. Hi Rick I gotta snap a couple shots when she's rigged then post them.
  14. Thanks Clarke yes it is that Walker release, thanks for the pic, also thanks for Fishhawk info, I will run it as since if it ain't broke don't fix it
  15. Ok new boat has the Fishhawk 840, and it has the triducer with the paddlewheel integral (see other topic I posted). Should rigger with probe be on same side as triducer? The unit worked well even though now I realized I had it on the opposite side rigger. Also the probe rigger has small bullet like plastic unit which I can't seem to figure out. It doesn't unscrew it is not a roemer release but I don't know what it is. Any help?
  16. I have new boat which came with the unit on board. In split screen I have a good picture in 50 kHz but the 200 kHz picture is weak if at all ( I have manually set sensitivity at 100 % for both and run it on auto, still same thing). Also is the transducer separate from the speed paddlewheel?
  17. July 19 Saturday Hot sunny, more fleas than I have ever seen ran out the North end to mid way point set up and head south, not a touch more weeds and fleas than marks, On a positive note the new boat runs great and we had a blast swimming of the back cuz we were so hot. Sunday south end rain falling around 5:00 am very flat water, again lots and lots of weeds floating and submerged fouling dipsies and rigger cables, rain off and on, we did get 2 good eating lakers on alewife pattern mag NK off riggers at 45'- 65' on east side north of white rock
  18. here is a link to a guy sells vertical spinners for the application you speak of, there also was recent article in GLAngler about the presentation. http://hammerheadchartersandtackle.com/page8.html FWIW, there a 6 out 18 fish on the LOC leaderboard lake trout division that list cowbells
  19. Hey guys, I sold my boat and haven't hooked up a new one yet and I have some friends coming to town this weekend and we are staying with friends on Seneca Point, any chance of picking me up and some kids with their dads for a morning or afternoon on Saturday or Sunday, the kids were looking forward to it since I took them out two years ago, but alas I am boatless any help appreciated, I can provide beer, soda, gas cash you let me know 585 955 3975, I would guess it is a 15 minute run from woodville directly across from Bare Hill maybe less, let me know Mike
  20. So I didn't want to drive all the way to south end launch so ventured out past pumphouse making a few turns to german bros. no marks so picked up and ran south to my summer haunts and set up with a stiff and hot south wind dropped down a dalmation spin dr with mirage fly to 100' down, ran green pro troll 8 " echip with A TOM MIK green hammer fly on wire out 270' on 3 setting and picked up two lakers betwen 6:00 and 6:15 am, kept at it with the wind trolling north and got another past pelican point off the dalmation combo. surface temp in North end out the chute was 75, past pelican point surface temp was 66, no real size to fish but heard over the weekend the derby winner was 13.5 lbs and second place was 13.4 lbs. Very bumpy ride back with the south wind.
  21. I like these and so do the trout, lakers and bows
  22. I had fleas on my deep rigger (45') Saturday morning on Canandaigua that was on 15 lb line
