The truth of the matter is, we do not have any representation from Sandy on the stakeholders board. The little guy never gets a voice.

Most guys text info to each other rather than broadcasting on VHF anymore...not sure how much help listening to a VHF channel is if you are looking to zone in on some bites...at least based on the conversations I hear while on the water....
Prior to Cell phones were private channel marine scrambled radios... I miss those days!!

Then why the small project on Black River? Only 50,000 kings. It doesn't align with their stocking in numbers for better survival theory. They could have kept Sandy (one of the most successful pen projects on the entire lake) and left out Black River. It doesn't make sense to cut a successful project with a TON of volunteers to start in an unproven project. If it was truly about survival rates, Sandy would still be in the program. Year after year we had the best survival rate and growth rates of all the projects.
I can answer the Black River question. There is a fish weir at Black River that the DEC can use on low return years at the Salmon River to get enough fish for eggs. It is a back up plan so to speak. Granted 50k in Kings is not many but could provide enough eggs in a pinch. There have been years in the past where the DEC needed to do this in order to have enough eggs for the quota.

The marine sanctuary designation would not prevent the development of off-shore windmills.
The Public Service Commission is in charge of decisions concerning windmills.
The New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation would also be involved.
This situation has been previously fact checked with NYS.
The point of this post is that NOAA does not intend to provide the public with their proposed regulations at the time they announce the plans for the Lake Ontario marine sanctuary and then only after public comments have been closed. That is not right so what regulations does NOAA want to hide from the public?
Shipwrecked lets make sure we provide the public with accurate information. It would not allow windmills as foundations being built inside the sanctuary designation area would not be allowed. I know several of the folks on the local committee that have had substantial input into the process. The process has been very open to this point. Why do you have an axe to grind with NOAA?

Wind mill farms off Germany and Denmark tie up areas of up to fifty square miles, not a 1500 foot circle area.
Well if you do the math on 150 turbines and the circumference on those that is about 50 square miles... I was referencing one windmill...

We have been told no restrictions on recreational fishing. Those fishing restrictions are for the net boats and long liners in the ocean. No concern of ours. We desperately need this to keep the windmills out of the lake. With the sanctuary in place they cant build the windmills. You want to talk restrictions if the windmills come there will be no fishing within 1500 feet of any of them.

No on the life expectancy comment , 5500 hours is near the end of its duty cycle. Could it make it to 6-8,000 hours , maybe ,but it would be the 1 in a million and at this point everything is wearing out ,bearings ,caps , valves ,springs, rings ,cylinders and on and on. So I would listen to people that say your near the end , didn't say you were at the end like Tall Tails replied . My "inexperience" with motors is having owned inboard boats for the last 45 years and have had about 5 rebuilt during that time . Yes oil was changed religiously and the boats are never beat or run much ,if at all , above cruising.speed which is around 3,000 RPM. Again I said your nearing the end , not your at the end and it's going to let go tomorrow.
Lots of boats on Lake Ontario in the 10k hour range. I even know of one that went 16k... 5500 is nothing..

I would recommend B and W customs in Sodus Point. Bill and Billy Jr are the best around at glass and the only guys I let touch my boat. They are straight shooters. If it can be fixed they will tell you if not they will tell you. And don't ever let anyone tell you 5500 is the end of a life on a motor... That is in-experience with motors. Plenty of life left if it is well maintained. Plenty of boats reach 10k plus hours on the troll. Good Luck with whatever decision you make.

One other item to keep in mind with salt boats. North of Jersey the boats are hauled for winter for the most part. South of Jersey they are in the water 24/7 365 days. It does make a difference.

Come on out Wednesday to the VFW in Mexico!

Thank you to all that responded! I am all set. I am sure there are other teams who are or will be looking.

Team Tall Tails is looking for an observer for the Sodus Pro Am and or the A-TOM-MIK invitational. The dates for the Sodus Pro Am are July 17 and 18th, you must be available both days. The Invitational in Oswego is on August 7th with a scheduled blow day of the 8th, again you must be available both days. Please feel free to text me at 607 423 4415 if you are interested or a PM here. We will pay you a daily rate of $100.00. This is a great opportunity to learn from some of the best teams around and we run a 36ft boat so you should get paired on a similar sized vessel so it should be comfortable.

That also might be to good a picture in some cases. Fish on bait can be more difficult to entice. Try sliding out 15 or 20 feet north of them on the next pass and see if you can bit by fish moving in or out off that picture. Sometimes that can help entice the bites.

Chowder i will take these. Will you be in Olcott this week? I can get them from you then.

You didnt by chance install something new near the heading sensor or store something metal near it?
-
Is it that it just responds to slow? there are settings for reactionary speed. Also at least on mine (not a 44) the speed input is critical so it knows how fast to respond.
-
Did you just install it or was it working and now its failing? I have had several brands of Autopilots over the years and SIMRAD is far and away the best.

If you want to spice up your Coho program try a Big Jon rattle board 15ft in front of the thin fish. These boards have sand in them and make noise going thru the water. Coho can not resist them. Also Steelhead will pound these if they are in there surface mood. My Coho program has two of these out on each side of the boat on straight mono and 2 more rods with short cores on small boards usually with the small dodgers and coho flies.

15 inches behind the little red dodgers is the standard. I run the same leader length behind the 6in spinnies as well. 30lb test Fluro carbon will give you the stiffness you need.

Right in the river plume is not a bad spot to start. Depending on the wind direction that will dictate the plume direction.
