We use them for Saskatchewan hunting.  Easy to get in and out of in a ground blind and a ladder stand.  A bit more of trick in a climber or a hang on.  You wont get cold however. Ultra cold days -10 to 20 sits throw heat packs in the bottom by the feet and they are toasty warm.

  3. I lease two pieces that border each other.  One thru a leasing company with insurance is 18.50 an acre and the other where we purchase the insurance our self is 12.00 an acre.  I don't like the fact that the leasing company raises the rate 3% every year.  At some point it wont be worth leasing or I will have to add another person to offset the difference.

  4. We purchased one about 4 years ago for my wife to use to help with access.  It is a great tool!  I use it heavy to check cameras completely quietly.  I can check 6 to 8 cameras on our lease in 20 minutes on our mowed access trails and not bust a deer or leave scent behind (Pre Cell Cameras of course).  We have a Quiet Kat.  Negotiated a great Price at the Harrisburg show.  I used to hunt a lot of large public tract lands and you are allowed to use them as long as it is below 1000CC electric.  Ours is a 750CC size. We used it to get deep on big closed logging roads.  It is just another tool in the arsenal as far as we are concerned.

Here’s what’s going to happen. DEC isn’t going to shut down trib fishing for any species at the moment. As of right now if the water stays at 185 on the salmon river they have over 50 days of water with no additional rain events.

There are building numbers of adult salmon in the lower fly zone and in the hatchery raceway. Fish are getting to the hatchery (was there last week with DEC checking on numbers of fish that were there)

LFZ will be closed to angling till Nov. pretty much three weeks after the usual egg take. This water has thermal relief for these fish so you want them in there.

DEC is reviewing alternate plans to collect eggs and milt if necessary. According to DEC biologists creek census from this past year (fall of 2019 through spring of 2020) nearly 70% of salmon caught by trib anglers are being released. Personally I’ve been on the salmon from the lower end to the top for two weeks and I’ve witnessed barely of handful of fish on stringers.

Still with three years of cuts and a huge harvest of three and two year olds from the lake coupled with low water conditions we should expect lower returns. Except two of the last three years DEC has found a banner crop of wild salmon hatched in the salmon river. So while fishing may not be as heavily impacted with additional wild fish, those fish don’t necessarily seek the hatchery.

Bottom line is this is a 12 month a year fishery all angler groups have a right to fish but trust DEC will make emergency adjustments to get their brood stock.

The Hatchery is closed to the public due to COVID restrictions.  What were you doing there??

You were adamite in our meetings that Steelhead were for the Trib anglers and Steve Hurst is quoted as saying the Chinook Salmon are for Lake fishing specifically.  I guess were trying to figure out what the truth is here...

  6. Hard to pin Oswego down.  One day is decent the next is very slow.  One trip the harbor mouth has some fish the next you should run to the plant.  The weather has not been kind to consistency here.  I wish I had more but who knows what it will look like after the NW blow today.  Probably wont be in the harbor as temps will come back after the ice out that occurred on Saturday.  Good Luck

  7. This can be a long answer but lets see if I can simplify it.

A "Flip" that you are asking about is when the lake has been stable with a thermocline and then we get a Hard south wind.  That rushes the cold water in and replaces the warm top with the cold.  We call this "ice out" or a flip.  What you are describing at least to me and the way I have learned it is the west wind simply fills the bay with warm water and you need to get offshore to find the correction.  In some cases typically later in August the fish wont leave once they are "Staging" they just get finicky and wont bite much.  The Bay is a different animal when it comes to Warm water.  West wind probably effects the bay more then any other place on the lake.  You need an East or a South wind to make the correction to the bay and bring the cold water back in.  The trick in the bay is to run deep and keep stopping and checking with your probe until you find the temp you are looking for unless you are marking them.  In that case the temp wont matter if they are hungry.

    I hope this helps.

Lot of armchair engineers and contractors here.  Many we should wait till its done before we pass judgement.  Usually new projects turn out to be beautiful.

No arm chair here.  I run major construction for a living when I am not fishing... Build schedules for projects ten times the size of Wrights Landing that allows municipalities to continue income and complete there projects on time and under budget.  If my projects looked or ran anything like this one I would have been out of a job a long time ago.

It is very easy to accuse and condemn, specially when you are a spectator.

I would suggest reading this small article. Sorry, there are no pictures...  It mentions new  bath room/shower facilities and fire pits. It also mentions that the marina will be elevated in order to prevent a repeat of the flooding we saw last year. It does not mention a fountain, although there might be one in the beautification plans.

Mayor Billy Barlow announced City of Oswego Department of Public Works has started construction on several improvement projects coming to Wright’s Landing Marina this summer.

The project, named the Wright’s Landing Marina Boater Services Improvement project, will further strengthen, support, and complement the ongoing momentum to revitalize Oswego’s waterfront to provide enhanced amenities to appeal to existing boaters and attract new boaters as well as attract more people to experience and better enjoy the picturesque waterfront on Lake Ontario. The project will improve the boater, recreational and leisure amenities at Wright’s Landing Marina through the construction, renovation and improvements of existing bathroom/shower facilities, new boater access services building, new pavilion, and installation of new stone fire pits along the waterfront, and making the marina ADA accessible. The awarded grant from the Department of State is $934,200 with the total project cost estimated at $1.6 million.

“Our Wright’s Landing Marina Boater Services Improvement project, along with our REDI improvements, will completely transform Wright’s Landing Marina into a modern, state-of-the-art marina that will attract more boaters, more visitors and Oswego residents into the marina and along our waterfront,” said Mayor Billy Barlow. “For years, we’ve had to admit, as a community, we failed to capitalize on our waterfront. The upcoming changes will enhance our marina and are projects that were identified by the boaters themselves during our 2016 waterfront feasibility study. I truly believe once the projects are completed, we will see an influx in boating traffic into the Oswego Harbor and will have a marina that can help market our entire community,” Barlow said.

Nathan Emmons, Director of Economic Development, said “The Wright’s Landing Marina Boater Services Improvement project beginning this spring along our waterfront is truly transformative and is a result of the Mayor Barlow’s vision to have a vibrant waterfront. I am very proud of the work to date with our waterfront and look forward to enjoying are revitalized waterfront when complete.”

Wright’s Landing Marina is currently closed until July 13th due to COVID-19 and the beginning of the planned construction. The City of Oswego is currently planning more construction as part of the $12.6 million REDI improvements funded by New York State that will elevate the marina to prevent future flooding from high water levels, expected to begin later this summer. Construction for the Wright’s Landing Improvement project is expected to last through this year with other REDI and FEMA projects lasting through 2021.

This is called Kool Aid!   I would encourage you to FOIA the city of Oswego for the plans for the Marina....   See if you think you'll be able to turn a 25ft boat trailer around in the parking lot when they are done... Again there are many things happening down there that they aren't talking about.   I really wish I could say more....   Keep in mind they fired the original MARINA engineer and decided they could design it better themselves.....

I'm not going to defend anybody, but a lot of work did need doing in and around Wrights Landing. They have been busy for about a year now replacing sewers and such things. The virus thing opened  a window of opportunity for doing work inside the Marina area while the place was closed and while water levels allowed the town to do this. (remember last year?). This project has provided work for many people in and around Oswego while at the same time improving infrastructure. Yes I love fishing and I would love to have my rig in a slip.At the same time, launching and parking has not been a problem at all.

Looking at the big picture, I think that playing with our hobbies really is not as important as keeping people in a job in a town that does not have a lot of financial opportunities and not such a great economy. So maybe we should figure that into the picture. For all we know they may even build a restaurant that has good food so we no longer have to travel to Mexico to the Eis House for a decent bite.

Not a HOBBIE for quite a few who are affected on an already tough year... The mayor is clueless and short sided.  The end result is not an improvement it is lipstick on a pig... There will not be new docks but they are going to spend a MILLION dollars on a fountain... I hope you enjoy the fountain...   There are a few other major items but I have already said to much...  Anyone want to ask the city why they fired the original design engineering company and decided they could do it better themselves??  Anyone?  How about returning deposits to all the dockers who paid thinking they were going to have a dock this year??

  11. Nothing to turn on with an echip.  What presentation are you trying behind the chip?  Meat? Flies?  A little more detail and we can probably get you started in the right direction.  The Pro Trolls are a great attractor.

When this project is all over people are not going to believe what they see... I cant go in to details because of my source but say good by to most of the parking.  Oswego could care less about the fishing public.  They don't have a clue the about revenue generated by the fishery nor do they care.

  13. No fleas yet.  No way the marina opens.  It looks like a bomb went off over there.  Painfully obvious the city is running the project and not an experienced construction outfit.  If you saw the fill they are bringing in to raise the parking lots it would make your head spin.... I also wonder what engineer signed off on the current sheet pile wall handling the extra wall load the increase in the parking lot is going to give it... I will leave that to everyone's imagination...
