Breakfast on board is an opportunity.

That would add a whole new level to our license... you would need food prep as well.  that is a thing if you look at the applications and renewals.  also for me that would grease up the cabin where the tackle is stored... NOPE!!

John a friend of mine watched the same thing happen on Sandy creek re stocking of rainbows a couple days ago, you charter captains should get together and request a meeting with the DEC and try to come up with a solution

We have had more meetings then you can imagine....

The cormorants are the main culprits. These stocker browns school up and the cormorants just decimate them. When you see hundreds of birds on a school for a week, how many could be left? Down on Lake Marion in SC they recognized the cormorants were eating their bass, they opened a season on them and killed 250,000 the first year. No more problem! Until NY grows a set and deals with this problem, we will continue to use taxpayer money to feed these birds. DDT was bad, but since it is out of the environment now, these birds have overpopulated and all the fisheries are paying the price.

Can you provide a source for the 250k harvest for the cormorants?  They are under federal control.  The states literally have no say other then to apply for a limited harvest permit which ends up in 1200 range... I am not doubting you but would like to see where the feds authorized a 250k harvest on the cormorants.  Our DEC hands are completely tied when it comes to those birds.  They beg us in meetings to reach out to our officials and apply pressure.

Good thinking Rick.  Didn't the DEC give us fish from a different hatchery due to zebra muscle infestation in the hatchery last year?  I cant remember exactly what went on but the fish had to go to waters that already had zebra muscles I believe.  Did those strains not do well in Lake O and not survive?

Rome Fish Hatchery Contaminated With Zebra Mussels - - The Adirondack Almanack

They stocked Rome fish in more central and western basin area's.  However the eastern basin has been getting Rome Browns for many many years.  That is not the issue.  We have a HUGE class of 2yr old alewives.  Perfect size for the BT to enjoy and very unstable weather in April.  I think it is a combination of the two.  Lets not sound alarm bells till we aren't catching them in June and July.

  5. The money is berried in the word "Sustainability"...  You tell everyone you bring on the lake what they want to do.. Customers, friends, and family.  After they have had fun trolling in 150 fow tell them this would be off limits once the windmills were installed.  That was the past plan for Mexico Bay.. It would essentially stop the fishery in the bay....  No access within a 1000ft of any windmills...

  6. I would look at the fun ones.  A-TOM-MIK Challenge, Fair Haven Challenge and the Little Salmon River Challenge.  They are low buy in, low pressure fun events.  Good Way to see how you stack up with some of the best yet not have a lot on the line.  You can fish them all from Oswego/Little Salmon river area's.

You will find a lot of support here for you ideas on  the role of temperature driving Alewife  yearclass strength. 2016YC was above average in LO, but it was surrounded by lower than average classes and one or more years of above average wild king production. Your observations about 2020YC are quite helpful are those from LM, LH or both?

What information can you provide about the impact of the reintroduction of the "native" species of Cisco/whitefish by the federal government that it has had on the food web/pyramid for the Alewife?  They compete for the same source's correct?  is there a correlation in your data that shows a drop in Alewife biomass with an increase in your Cisco/whitefish biomass over the last 8 to 10 years?  Also is there another similar correlation with the smelt that you have found?

So i just called city of Oswego, they told me they intend to have the marina open june 1st. Contracts have been sent out, to ONLY full season boaters from year before last. I usually get a half season, they are taking NO half season applications right now or new applicants for full season. If there is anybody on here that has had a slip in years past & is NOT going back please PM me.

    Thanks!!

Sent from my SM-G781V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I wouldnt worry... There is going to be plenty of openings...   With the disaster that is about to unfold at that marina after they rebuild the international on the west side of the pier and jam that side up... It will be one of the most unsafe marina's to launch and operate out of in the Great Lakes...

Dont forget Sodus and Wilson projects were cut also...

Its important to remind folks yes the projects were ended but the fish were reallocated.  They did not cut the fish from being stocked.  Thank you for that reminder.  I did also leave out that direct stockings were eliminated in a few places as well.  Those fish were put into the net pen # and re allocated to other direct stock locations.

i had thought i saw they stopped some of the pen rearing in several locations due to a cut back in stocking numbers a couple of years ago ?

Fair Haven and Sandy Creek but those fish got allocated to Oswego and the Oak accordingly.  All based on fishing pressure and the survey.  No less fish being stocked due to less pens.  Yes an overall reduction in stocking but as a percentage the net pens are receiving actually more and less direct stocking in ports are taking place.  Offering for higher survival.

Sorry, I'm a sports fisherman, not a prophet, but it is my feeling that at this point there is a lot of natural reproduction in all sorts of creeks. This is up to the point where pen reared fish has become less crucial than it was a few years ago. Anyway, spring kings are more abundant after a soft winter and so far this winter is not terribly harsh, so my prophesy would be that ,yes, there will be spring kings, but they will not be of epic size

Again more disnformation... The only way Lake Ontario Kings stay abundant is thru stocking... There is zero protections in place for natural reproduction.  Nat production is simply a gift from Mother nature and adds to the fishery where it can.  Please don't spread disinformation...

now that it has been  a couple of years since the stoppage of most of the pen reared fish in many areas , will there still be spring king fishing ?  well    catching is what i am more interested in

Huh??  Stoppage of net pen fish??  Where?   Not sure where you are getting your info but that is simply not the case in anyway shape or form.  Pen rearing is as strong as it ever has.  Is there new guidance as to locations and numbers?  Yes but certainly in no way has it stopped.

Just let me put in a few tidbits.  From what I can see with this plan with that new dockage in that position, entering and leaving the launch area is going to be a nightmare.  There is simply too small an opening if you will leading into and out of the launch area.  And the position of that opening forces you towards the exiting dockage area.  Whoever designed this has never so much as launched a rowboat.  With that new walkway leading to the lovely arch we are losing more parking for trailers.  This plan seems to be a disgrace and a nuisance for anyone launching at Wright's landing.  Please correct me if I'm misinterpreting some aspect of this design but at this point I don't think this will turn out well for boaters and fisherman using the launch area.

Just wait till the first big west wind... it can get as big as 4 foot waves there at least... I certainly wouldnt want my boat parked there.
